A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL : CHAPTER 91 – 100
Slowly, I took a step toward him, then another. My heart hammered with each one, every nerve in my body screaming for me to turn around, to run, to get as far away from him as possible.
But I couldn’t stop myself. It was as if he had an invisible thread wrapped around me, pulling me closer with every heartbeat.
When I reached him, he didn’t speak, didn’t even move. He just looked at me, his eyes dark and endless.
I wanted to ask him where he’d been, why he’d left without a word. But the words wouldn’t come. I opened my mouth, and all that escaped was a shaky breath.
He pulled me closed, lift me up, I tightened my legs around his waist, arms wrap around his neck while I rest my head…. We remain still for few minutes before letting go of me.
“Did you miss me?” His voice was soft, low, like a caress, yet his eyes held a sharper edge, watching me closely.
My instinct was to deny it, to turn away, to throw up every wall I’d carefully built since he disappeared. But standing this close, I couldn’t lie, not when he was staring at me like that, pulling every truth from me.
“No,” I whispered, feeling the weight of that single word settle between us. It was more than I wanted to admit. “I… I thought you weren’t coming back.”
He let out a low hum, a faint smile curving his lips as if satisfied with my answer. But then his gaze shifted, darkening as he glanced behind me—toward Mirabel, still lying on his bed, watching us with a twisted expression.
“Mirabel,” he said, his tone turning cold, “out.”
Mirabel’s smile faltered, and I saw a flicker of something in her eyes—fear, perhaps, though she tried to hide it.
She pulled a sheet around herself, slowly slinking off the bed and casting one last defiant look at me before slipping out the door. The silence that followed was thick, heavy.
Lucifer turned his attention back to me, his expression softening, though there was still an edge in his gaze. “Now, where were we?”
A strange thrill shot through me, one I didn’t understand but couldn’t deny.
My body was a contradiction of tension and longing, a mix of anger and relief that he was here, right in front of me, looking at me like I was the only thing in his world.
“Where did you go?” The question tumbled out before I could stop it, my voice sharper than I intended. “You just left without a word.”
His lips quirked, an amused glint in his eyes. “Did you miss me that much, Selene?” he asked, his tone light, playful, as if my question was a game to him.
But I couldn’t play along, not when he was the one who’d been gone for days, leaving me with nothing but silence and questions.
“i said no,” I said, my voice stronger this time, a trace of irritation slipping through. “you shouldn’t have return.”
He tilted his head, his gaze darkening, and I saw a flicker of something raw in his eyes, something he quickly hid behind that unreadable mask he wore so well. “I had business to attend to,” he replied, his voice soft, almost apologetic. “But I didn’t think you’d be so affected by my absence.”
I scoffed, rolling my eyes, even though my heart was still racing. “Affected? Hardly,” I muttered, trying to ignore the warmth creeping up my neck. “I just… I thought you’d at least tell me if you were going somewhere, and if I was allowed to leave”
Lucifer stepped closer, and I felt the air between us shift, growing heavier, charged with an energy I didn’t quite understand. “Would it make you feel better if I promised not to leave without telling you next time?” His voice was low, soothing, like he was trying to calm me down. But it only made my pulse race faster.
“Yes,” I whispered, even though I knew it was dangerous to rely on him, to let him hold that kind of power over me. And yet, standing here, feeling the warmth radiate from him, I couldn’t bring myself to care.
