Jayden opened his mouth and started telling her the story.
“Diana and I were best of friends in our school days, we do almost anything together and sometimes people distinguish us as Twins because of the way we behave and act towards each other, But at times go on we started developing feelings for each other, she was my first love”. He sighs.” Things were going well between us until she decided to call it a quit”.
“Why? Did you do something that offended her?”. Maya asked.
” No, it was the day I was planning on proposing to her that she rejected me, her love and affection for me was all a lie, I found out she never loved me, she was toying with my feelings, and at that time she was in love with my father’s personal guard and was even pregnant for him, thinking the pregnancy was mine because she told me it was mine”. He said and Maya was surprised.
“What?”.
“When I found out the truth I was heartbroken and I felt used”. he said and continued. ” I couldn’t do anything, I let her go even when it hurt”.
“What then happened? Did she have the baby?”.
” No, I heard she and her lover had an accident that took the guy’s life and the baby while trying to leave the city for a better life”. He said.
“Oh my, am so sorry you went through those traumas”.
” I was before, but not anymore, you healed me and brought light to my darkest moment”.
“I promise never to leave your side, I will always be here”. She said smiling at him.
” Thank you, Maya, you are the best thing that has ever happened to me, I love you so much”. he said.
“And I love you too”. They hugged each other warmly.

Days later, Ryan was driving along the road and was on the phone with Mia, suddenly, he stepped on a break as someone ran in front of his car.
” Oh geez! Did I kill someone?”.he panicked and quickly got out of the car to see a little girl lying lifeless on the ground in front of his car. “geez! I killed her”. He moved to her and noticed she was still breathing, he let out a sigh and carried her up to his car, and drove off.

HOSPITAL
Ryan was pestering around the corridors waiting impatiently for his brothers, he called them a while ago. Not too long after, Jayden and Theo rushed into the building, they saw Ryan alone and rushed to hug him.
” Are you okay?”.Jayden asked as they pulled away from each other.
“What happened?”. Theo asked.
Ryan explained what happened and they sighed confusedly.
” Is she okay?”Theo asked.
“I hope so, I am waiting for the doctor”. he said.
” Don’t worry, everything is going to be fine”. Jayden said.
Some minutes later, Doctor Michael came out of the ward and they rushed to him.
“Doc. is she okay?”. Ryan asked curiously.
” Yes, the car didn’t hit her, she just passed out due to shock, she is fine now”. He said and they sighed in relief.
“Thank goodness”. Ryan said.
” is it possible to see her now?”.Jayden asked.
“Yes, she is awake now”. he said.
“Ok, thank you”. Jayden said and they went inside.
The little girl was seated upright on the bed staring out to the window with a drip fixed on her hand, She was pretty with golden brown hair that fell on her shoulders, and her eyes were that of a cat with a grey color.
“She looks okay to me and she is a little girl,” Theo said.
She turns in their direction quickly and smiles broadly.
” Marvin!”. She called excitedly smiling at Ryan, she stood up trying to come closer to them, but they stopped her quickly.
“What are you doing?”.Theo said as they moved to her.
They were caught off guard as she hugged Ryan tightly.
” You came for me Marvin, I know you will never leave me”. She said.
“What the heck, “Jayden said surprisedly
Ryan struggles to get loose from her tight hug.
” um,”. He said confusedly and he finally wiggled out of her arms.”Are you okay, little one?”. he asked and she nodded smiling broadly at him.
“What’s your name?” Jayden asked and she turned her gaze to him.
“Ella”. She said.
” Ella, Where are you from?”Jayden asked.
“From there”. She said pointing out to the window, they stared confusedly at her.
” She looks crazy”. Theo said.
“Where?”. he asked again and she kept pointing at the window.
” How old are you?”.Theo asked and she shifted her gaze to him.
“Am ten”. She replied and turned to Ryan.” Marvin, who are these people why are they asking me questions?”. She asked and Ryan was confused.
“Listen, kid, I am not Marvin”. Ryan said.
” Huh? You are Marvin”. She said.
“Who is Marvin?”. Jayden asked drawing her attention to him.
” He is Marvin”. she point at Ryan.”He is my brother and I love him so much”. She smiles and they sigh confusedly.
“I think we need a doctor to do some brain tests on her”. Theo said.

An hour later, they were in the doctor’s office.
” Any news of the test?”.Jayden asked.
“Yeah, Her brain looks normal, there is no damage”. he said.
” Are you sure doctor?”Ryan asked.
“Yes, here is the result”. He gave them the result and they glanced through.
” But why is she calling me Marvin, and she said I am her brother”. Ryan said confusedly
“I don’t know, you need to find out and let her take you to her home”. Doc. Micheal said.
” I think that is a great idea”.Theo said and they sighed confusedly.

Mia came for a visit, She and Maya were seated on the balcony and she was on the phone with Jayden.
“Hope is not that serious?”. She asked after jayden told her what was happening.” Okay, you guys need to be careful”. She sighed and there was a pause.”OK, I love you too”. She hung up.
“What happened? Is Ryan okay?”. Mia asked curiously because he suddenly hung up on her when they were talking on the phone and since then, his phone has been switched off.
” Yes, he is fine, they are taking the girl back home, she is fine”.
“Thank goodness, I was so worried”. Mia sighs in relief.
” I know, but not to worry, he will call you”. She reassured her.
“Ok”. They smile at each other.

Along the driveway, Ella was holding onto Ryan’s arms as she was leading them to where she stayed. The drive was a long one as they kept driving from one street to another, the houses they came across were modern ones, where the poor stayed, and the environment was full of dirt and bad air pollution.
” I can’t believe, people live here”. Theo said staring out from the window.
“Of course, people live here, I wonder how they manage in this kind of environment”. Jayden said.
” That’s my house”.Ella said pointing to a house made of wood and Clay.
“Is that your house?”. Ryan asked.
” Yes, that’s we live”. She replied and they finally made a stop at the building, people came out from different directions to see what was going on.
They came down and all eyes were on them, some of the girls were blushing and they started murmuring to each other. Jayden stared around and was touched by their ways of living.
“Ella?”. A voice called from behind and they turned in the direction.
” Aunty Mary”.Ella called excitedly and rushed to hug her tight.
“What happened? I was worried about you.”. She said as tears filled her eyes.
” Am sorry Aunty Mary, I went to look for my brother and I finally found him”. She said smiling and Mary was shocked.
“You must be her aunt?”. Jayden asked.
” Um, not really, we are neighbors “. She replied staring awkwardly at them.” Who are you, people? Where did you find her?”. She asked.
They got interrupted by an advanced man who rushed out of the house where Ella pointed to, he was angry and yelled her name, Ella rushed to hide behind Ryan’s back looking scared.
“You finally came back you good for nothing b!stard!” He yelled and Jayden shunned him.
“Hey! Don’t you ever use sure words on her again”. he warned and the man stared hard at him.
” Who the hell are you to tell me how to discipline my wife?”He retorted and they went surprised.
“Y-your wife?” Theo asked confusedly.
“Please Pius, not now, as you can see we have a visitor, you should be happy they find her”.Mary said firmly.
” Be quiet! Who called you in this matter”. he yelled at her.
“Wait hold on, we don’t get you, you said this little girl here is your wife, how?”. Ryan asked confusedly.
” Yes, do you have a problem with that?”.
“Are you crazy? Is something wrong with your brain? How can you call a little girl old enough to be your granddaughter your wife, Are you sick or something?”. Jayden said.
” Listen, I don’t care to know where you people come from, you have just three seconds to leave here”. he said and turned to Ella.”Ella, go inside”.
“No, no, no, I don’t want to go, please Brother save me from him, he is a bad man”. She sobs still holding onto Ryan.
” I said go inside now!”. he commands and tries to drag her inside, but Jayden catches his hand quickly and squeezes it, he groans in pain.”Let go of my hand”. he cried out.
“Don’t you dare try to touch her with this filthy hand, if you do, I will squeeze the life out of you”. he warned and push him off, the man fell with his butt.
” Explain to us what is going on here?”Theo asked talking to Mary.
Mary sighed and then ushered them to her house and offered them a seat, Jayden pulled the man along and made him sit on the floor. Everywhere became crowded with people.
“We are all hears”. Jayden said.
” Well, Ella was brought in by Mr. Pius a month ago, at first, we all thought she was his grandchild, but we were shocked when he told us she was his wife, we confronted him about why he would make a minor as his wife, Instead of giving us an answer, he will chase us out asking us to mind our business”. She sighs.
Jayden and the rest stare hard at the man who becomes calm and feels ashamed.
“You are so wicked”. Theo said.
” But, one day I confronted Ella and she told me everything, she said bandits invaded their village and killed everybody including her family, she said her brother managed to escape from the village but was also chased by the bandits, along the way her brother was shot and taken away by the bandit, but she manages to escape and she was later caught by the bandits”. she said and continued.”She said they were taken to another village where they were been sold to other people from another country and villages, she said luck was not on her side when she was sold to this man to be his wife”. She sniffs. Jayden and the rest sighed sadly.
“You should be put in jail for assault”. Ryan said angrily to the man.
” You wanna ruin an innocent child’s life, don’t you have kids or a wife?”. Theo questioned angrily.
“His wife and children left him many years ago because of his wicked ways”. Mary said and continued.” he has been unfair to this little girl, each night he tries laying with her, but Ella struggles with him and runs to my house, she keeps saying she wants to go and look for her brother, I told her I will help her find her brother, but few days back, we heard everyone in the village were all burnt to ashes including her brother”. She sobs.
“Aunty, I told you my brother is not dead, he is right here with me”. She said and turned to Ryan” Brother, tell her that you are not dead”. She said smiling at him.” I know you will come for me”. she added and Ryan sighed sadly.
“You don’t have to blame her, she still hasn’t gotten over the news of her brother’s death, she shows me their family picture she hides her pocket, you have the same height and stature as her brother”. Mary said.
” But, why didn’t you involve the police in such a case this old fool did”. Theo said.
“Is not possible, going to the police station is like going to the city, this town is insecure, everyone here lives by their own rules, and we only survive here each day by God “. Mary said.
” This is sad, I can feel what you people might be going through”. Jayden said. “But I think we can’t let Ella stay here anymore, we can’t let her stay here, this place is too dangerous and is not good for a kid like her”. He said.
” You are right, Ella is a young talented girl with so many dreams, all she needs is a good place to live in”. Mary said.
“We will take her with us if you don’t mind”. Ryan said.
“Of course, the moment I saw you people I knew you were good and I know you can take care of Ella very well”.
” Don’t you dare take my wife away, I paid on her head”. Plus said and he got a hard gaze from Jayden.
“How much did you pay on her head?” he asked.
“Fifty dollars”. he replied. Jayden put his hand in his suit pocket, brought out some money, and threw it at him.
” You can keep the change”. he said and the man was picking up his money with so much joy.
“So much money”. he said smiling and they scoffed.
They stood up to leave, Jayden left to his car and came back with a brown envelope and gave it to Mary.
“Please have this for being a kind soul”. he said and Mary tried to reject the gift but he persuaded her.
” Thank you, I really appreciate it”. She said with tears.
“You should take care of yourself, we will be on our way now”. Ryan said and they left for the car, everyone waved at them as they drove off.
