The line went dead, leaving the family in stunned silence.
“I can’t believe you, Madison!” Julian exclaimed, turning to her in anger.
“If you had just gone to pick up Hazel like you were supposed to, none of this would be happening!”
“You were so careless and irresponsible. Now Hazel’s in danger because of your mistake!”Leonardo said.
Madison’s eyes welled up with tears as they yelled at her, she knew she had messed up.
“I-I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to forget. I was just…distracted”
“Distracted?” Julian repeated before continuing. “You were distracted? By what? Your phone? Your friends? Your own selfish desires? Your main job was to pick up Hazel immediately you close from school but what did you do? You should have called me that you will be going to your friend’s place,I would have come to pick her myself since Mason was busy”
Madison’s tears began to flow freely now, streaming down her face as she broke down under their scolding.
“I’m sorry, okay? I’m so sorry. I feel terrible about what happened to Hazel”
“Madison, we’re not trying to be harsh, but you need to understand the gravity of the situation. Hazel’s life is at risk because of your mistake” Mason said and Madison nodded, still sobbing.
“I know…I know. I’m so sorry. Please forgive me”
“Okay, Madison. We’ll deal with this later. Right now, we need to focus on getting Hazel back”
Leonardo nodded in agreement.
“We need to come up with a plan to rescue her”
Madison sniffled, wiping her nose with her sleeve.
“I’ll do anything to help. Please, just tell me what to do”
“We need to get Marcus involved. He’s the only one Jenkins wants to talk to”
“We all know Marcus isn’t available for now right?”
“We need to call Marcus”
“Let’s get him on the phone. Mason, can you try reaching him?”
Mason pulled out his phone and dialed Marcus’s number. They all waited in silence as the phone rang… and rang… and rang.
Mason frowned, trying again. But the result was the same.
“It’s not going through” Mason said, frustrated already.
“His phone must be out of reach or turned off”
“What are we going to do? We need to talk to him!”
“We’ll keep trying”
The room fell silent, the clock was ticking, and time was running out.
“Send him a text message, time’s running out already” Leonardo suggested.
Mason quickly sent him a message.

VALDORIA KINGDOM, KATHARINA’S CHAMBERS*
“Dead battery, of all times” Marcus muttered to himself.
Katharina looked up from what she was doing.
“What’s wrong?”
“My phone’s dead, and I need to charge it. I want to check on my family, especially Hazel. I haven’t heard from them all day”
He pulled out his power bank and began to charge his phone.
“Everything okay?” she asked, setting what she was doing aside and Marcus nodded.
“I hope so. I just want to make sure Hazel’s doing alright. She’s been on my mind all day”
As his phone began to charge, Marcus’s eyes were on the screen, willing it to turn on. Finally, it came to life, displaying a lot of missed calls and a text message from Mason.
Marcus’s eyes widened as he read the message.
“No…oh no…”
“What is it?”
“I need to get out of here now! Hazel has been kidnapped and her kidnapper is requesting to see me”
“Oh my God!” Katharina exclaimed.
The door to Katharina’s chambers burst open and King Ryker came in.
“Marcus, we should have a little chat,Don’t keep me waiting”
With that, he turned, expecting Marcus to follow him.
“I’m not going anywhere, My daughter’s life is in danger, and I need to get to her”
King Ryker turned and raised an eyebrow.
“You came to the palace willingly, Marcus. No one forced you here. You’re a guest, and you’ll do as I say”
“You don’t care that my daughter’s in danger? You’re heartless!”
King Ryker shrugged.
“I don’t care about your personal problems”
“You’re forcing your own daughter to marry someone she doesn’t love! You don’t care about her happiness, or anyone’s! You only care about your own power and ambitions!”
“I’m doing what’s best for my kingdom, Marcus”
“You’re a monster! A heartless, cruel monster!”
“Enough! Throw him in the dungeon for his insolence!”he ordered.
The guards moved to drag Marcus away, but before they could, Katharina fell to her knees beside him.
“Father, please! Don’t do this! Have mercy!”
“You’ll learn to obey me, Katharina. And Marcus will learn to respect me. Take him away!”
The guards pulled Marcus to his feet and started to drag him away, but Katharina grabbed her father’s cloak.
“Father, please! Listen to me! You’re making a mistake!”
King Ryker shook her off.
“Silence! You’ll do as I say, or suffer the consequences!”
As the guards dragged Marcus out of the room, Katharina ran after them, begging her father to stop but her pleas fell on deaf ears.
King Ryker stormed towards the dungeon, his guards following closely behind. He stopped in front of the cell Marcus was just thrown in.
“You’ve been a hindrance to my daughter getting married to the man I chose for her, Maybe I should end your life like I did to your father’s” he said nonchalantly and Marcus’s eyes widened in shock.
“What… what did you just say?” he stammered.
“You heard me, Marcus. I’m the one who killed your foolish father. And now, you’re standing in the way of my plans. You’re a liability”
“No… that’s not possible. You’re lying!”
King Ryker chuckled.
“Oh, I’m afraid not, Marcus. Your father was a foolish man who dared to defy me. And now, you’re following in his footsteps”
“You monster! I’ll kill you for what you did!”Marcus clenched his fist in angry and King Ryker laughed.
“I’m shaking in my boots, Marcus. But for now, you’ll stay in this cell. And soon, you’ll face the same fate as your father. You shouldn’t have come here, you walked into your own den yourself”
“Why did you kill my father?” Marcus asked, trying to keep his voice steady.
King Ryker smiled.
“Your father, Harrington, was a fool, Marcus. He was meant to be the King, but I took what was rightfully his through my own cunning ways. And yet, he never complained, never showed any anger towards me for betraying him. His silence was a constant reminder of my guilt, a guilt that I couldn’t bear. So, I killed him, Marcus. I killed him to clear my conscience, to rid myself of the one person who knew the truth about my rise to power”
“You’re a constant reminder of my guilt, a guilt that I’ll never be able to shake. But I’ll never let you threaten my power, my kingdom. You’ll meet the same fate as your father, Marcus. You’ll die for your foolishness” he said and then he continued.
“The Harrington family shouldn’t even exist, Marcus. You’re all a reminder of my greatest mistake, a mistake I’ve been trying to rectify for years. And as for you, you’re nothing but a pest, a flea to be crushed beneath my heel. You think you can marry my daughter, Katharina? Over my dead body, Marcus! I’ll never let that happen. I’ll never let a Harrington tarnish the royal bloodline. You’ll die before I let that happen. I’m the King, and I’ll do whatever it takes to protect my throne, my legacy. You’ll never leave this dungeon alive, Marcus. Never”
“And what about my mother’s disappearance? Since you know so much about my family,then you should know where my mother is”Marcus said calmly.
“Ah, yes… your mother, Well, Marcus, let’s just say that’s a story for another time”
Marcus’s fists clenched angrily. He would find a way to escape, and he would make King Ryker pay for everything.
“I promise you, Ryker, I will be the one to kill you. You may think you’ve won, but I’ll make sure you pay for it. I’ll escape this dungeon, I’ll gather my strength, and I’ll come for you. You’ll beg for mercy, but it will be too late. I’ll be the one to end your reign of terror, and I’ll be the one to take back what’s rightfully mine”Marcus said and King Ryker laughed.
“You’re brave, I’ll give you that, Marcus. But bravery won’t save you. You’ll rot in this dungeon, and no one will ever remember your name”
“We’ll see about that, Ryker. We’ll see about that”
“Do you know I can end your life right now? You can never escape here,I promise you that”
“You’re a thief, A thief and a murderer. My father was supposed to be the King, but you snatched that from him. You stole his rightful place on the throne, and then you killed him to clear your guilts”
“But I won’t let you get away with it. I’ll make sure you pay for what you’ve done. And I’ll do more than that. I’ll help my father fulfill his dreams, even in death. I’ll take the throne that’s rightfully mine, and I’ll rule with justice and honor, not tyranny and fear”
King Ryker sneered at him.
“You’re a fool, Marcus. You’ll never leave this dungeon alive. Your father was just a poor man’s son, a nobody. He was never meant to be King, and he’s long been forgotten. His memory is nothing but dust and ashes”
“My father may not have had your wealth or your power, but he had something you’ll never have…honor. And his memory lives on through me. I’ll make sure his legacy is remembered, and I’ll make sure you pay for what you’ve done”
“You’re no match for me, Marcus. I am the King and and I repeat,you’ll never leave this place alive”
“I’ll escape, Ryker. And when I do, you’ll be the one who’s forgotten. You’ll be the one who’s left to rot”
King Ryker stormed out of the dungeon furiously,how can he still talk to him boldly even while locked up?
He collected the key to Marcus cell from one of the guards,he wants to be the only one in access to it.
A maid watched from the shadows as he entered his room, slamming the door behind him. She took a deep breath, then picked up the tray of food she had prepared earlier. It was time to take a risk.
She made her way to the dungeon, trying to cover her face with her hood as much as possible. As she approached the guards, they eyed her suspiciously.
“What do you want?” one of them asked.
“I-I brought food for the prisoner” she stammered.
The guards exchanged a skeptical look.
“On whose order?”
“The king himself” the maid replied.
“What’s in the tray?”
“Just some bread and soup” she replied.
The guard eyed her for a moment longer, then nodded.
“Alright, you can take it in. But be quick about it”
The maid nodded, her heart racing as she entered the dungeon. She made her way to Marcus’s cell and as she approached the cell, Marcus looked up in total shock,his eyes widened in surprise.
“What are you doing here?” he whispered urgently.
The maid quickly placed a finger to her lips.
“Ssshh, just act normal” she whispered back, passing the tray of food under the bars.
Marcus quickly composed himself, taking the tray from her.
“Thank you” he whispered.
The maid smiled slightly, then, she turned and quickly left the cell leaving Marcus still surprised.
