A heavily pregnant Urekai woman paused at the entrance of the corridor leading to the chambers of the Grand Lord of Blackstone.

She turned to her male companion, “I shall proceed from this point.”

The male, an Urekai high lord and her bondmate, looked at her tenderly and replied, “I understand. I will await your return here. Go and answer the summons of your master.”

She bestowed upon him a soft smile before continuing her journey. In the distance, the sounds of merriment still lingered in the air.

As she reached the sturdy oak door, she knocked once and patiently awaited a response.

“Enter, Merilyn,” a familiar deep voice resonated from within.

Merilyn stepped into the room, closing the door behind her. She humbly bowed in greeting and spoke with respect, “My lord.”

Grand Lord Vladya, who stood facing the window, turned to look at her over his shoulder.

A small smile graced his lips as he regarded her, “No need for formalities tonight.”

His eyes held warmth, “Even heavy with child, you remain as beautiful as ever, Merl.”

A soothing smile appeared on her face as she moved further into the room. “I am uncertain if that is a compliment, Vlad.

I resemble a watermelon. If you had summoned me prior to these seven months, you might have seen me in a better state.”

“You look stunning now. Besides, I am certain Henry keeps you occupied.”

“Never too busy that I cannot nourish my master,” she answered firmly.

The distance between them closed as he enveloped her in a warm embrace, planting a tender kiss on her forehead. “My bondmate and I worry about you, my lord.”

“Worry not. You have the baby to concern yourselves with. Have I expressed my elation for you?

You and Henry have strived to conceive for three hundred years, and finally, the little one has arrived.” He pulled away, his eyes taking on a gentle light reserved only for his bloodhost.

“Three hundred and eighty-four days,” she corrected with a soft smile, “It is difficult to forget when one counts the days with such fervor.”

“I understand. Therefore, you need not worry about this old, cantankerous male. I have merely been preoccupied, that is all,” Vladya assured her.

Merilyn let out a sigh. “You are aware that sustenance from food can only provide temporary nourishment and is never sufficient for our alphas. You must feed on blood regularly.

Why do you risk succumbing to turning feral when I am always prepared to feed you? I am merely a few miles away from the fortress.”
