CHAPTER 53
Jennifer stood frozen in the doorway of her room, her breath catching in her throat.
The sight before her was beyond anything she could have imagined,a complete and utter disaster.
Clothes were strewn across the floor, her once neatly made bed was flipped over, and the doors of her wardrobe hung open, revealing the chaos within.
Her shoe stand was overturned, and her shoes lay scattered across the room like fallen soldiers.
The makeup stand, which she had meticulously organized, was now a mess of broken compacts, spilled powders, and shattered mirrors.
Panic surged through her as she rushed inside, her fingers trembling as they fumbled for the small toy she had cleverly hidden near the door.
With a click, the hidden safe in the ground slid open. Her heart stopped when she peered inside and saw that the flash drive…her most guarded secret… WAS GONE.
“Juliet!!”Jennifer’s scream tore through the house, raw and filled with fury.
She clenched her fists so tightly her knuckles turned white, her teeth grinding together in a mix of anger and fear. There was no doubt in her mind who had done this.
“Juliet”
That meddling, nosy brat had finally crossed the line, and she was going to pay.
Slamming the safe shut, Jennifer spun on her heel and stormed out of the room.
She burst through the front door, ready to hunt down her sister and retrieve what was hers. But as she rushed outside, she came to a sudden halt.
Standing there, only a few feet away, was Juliet, clutching her laptop close to her chest, her eyes wide with fear.
The look in Jennifer’s eyes was pure, unbridled rage. Juliet took a step back, her grip on the laptop tightening as if it were her only lifeline.
“I warned you!!”Jennifer roared, her voice a thunderous echo of the storm brewing within her.
Without another word, she lunged at Juliet.
Instinct kicked in, and Juliet turned on her heel, sprinting down the street.
Jennifer was right behind her, her feet pounding against the road as she gave chase.
The distance between them closed quickly, Jennifer’s fury propelling her forward with a terrifying speed.
Juliet’s breath came in ragged gasps as she pushed herself harder, her heart hammering in her chest.
The streets blurred around her as she ran, the adrenaline coursing through her veins blocking out everything but the sound of Jennifer’s footsteps thundering behind her.
This was no longer just a chase, it was a mad race for survival.
Juliet’s lungs burned as she ran, each breath coming in ragged gasps.
Her legs felt heavy, and she could feel her strength waning. She glanced over her shoulder, expecting to see Jennifer still hot on her heels, but to her surprise, her sister was no longer chasing her.
Confusion and relief washed over her as she came to a stop, leaning forward with her hands on her knees, desperately trying to catch her breath.
For a brief moment, the world seemed to tilt back into focus.
The street was eerily quiet, the only sound the pounding of her heart in her ears.
She straightened up, turning around slowly, when suddenly, a blinding beam of light cut through the darkness, aimed directly at her face.
