“You forgot it in the kitchen yesterday” he replied, and she walked away, leaving him there.

“You’re welcome!” He shouted after her, licking the spoon he’s holding.

His new phone buzzed, and his eyes widened immediately he checked.

He has been chosen to be among the mission goers tomorrow.

“Damn! My first real mission” he jumped ecstatically.

MAYA’S SUITE*

Maya spranged up when she heard the door alarm.

She rushed to open up, and Andrei’s face came to view.

He’s holding a bottle of alcohol for the two of them, and her face lit up with a bright smile as he came in.

She shut the door.

“Thought you wouldn’t be coming anymore” she said as he set the bottle on the table.

“I had to finish my shift with the compound guards” he replied.

They sat facing each other, and he emptied the alcohol into two cups which they clinked before drinking.

The heat in the room became unbearable for him cos of the candles, so she quickly went to the line and put out the candles with air from her mouth.

The room became dark, so she turned on a yellow light on the ceiling.

The light is LED, built in form of a cross.

“Thank you” Andrei said as she came back to sit.

“It’s nothing. I can just lighten the candles again tomorrow” she said.

“Tomorrow?” He blinked slowly.

“Yeah… aren’t you gonna spend the night here? Sleep with me” she said, and he choked on his drink.

“Maya”

“What? I mean…sleep beside me, I don’t mean anything else. You’re my calming pill” she said flatly, and Andrei drank the remaining alcohol in his cup before smiling slightly.

“Fine”

“You thought I was talking about sèx? What if I told you I’m still a virgin at 32?” She said, and he choked on his drink again.

He came to her side and covered her mouth with his palm, sitting beside her.

She smiled with her eyes and removed his hand, resting her head on his shoulder eventually.

“Tell me…what’s your story? How did you end up in this clan?” She asked.

“It was during the Russian-Ukraine war seven years ago… Igor saved my life” he replied.

“Igor? Sounds like a lie” she said, taking his hand to start playing with his rough fingers.

“It’s the truth, and that’s why I’ll even give my life to save him. He might look brutal, but he’s actually just spoilt and too insecure” he said, but no answer came from her.

He looked down at her and saw her eyes closed already. She’s dozing off, but like her habit, she’s still holding his hand tightly.

He carried her to bed and lay her down, then he sat beside her, supporting his back with the pillow.

He leaned down and kissed her forehead.
