CHAPTER 55

A big silence suddenly ensued between the both of them, Melanie stared into his eyes which he did not fail to return.

Was he asking her to be his indirectly? That was the thought running in her mind.

“What kind of bet is that?” She chuckled nervously.

“It’s all in your favor,” she bit her lips and tried to move out of his hold.

Axel stopped her by tightening his arms around her, her body almost crashing into his.

Melanie released a soft gasp, her hand going to his chest reflexively.

“You haven’t answered me…” Axel muttered, staring down at her lips.

His eyes traveled back to hers and he quickly took his gaze away. It was as though there was a magnetic force in her eyes, drawing him close to her.

“Are you in?” He asked.

“You… Is this an indirect way of asking me out?” Melanie uttered the word that has been disturbing her.

“Because, whether I pass or fail the bet, I’ll still end up as your girlfriend,” she muttered.

“If I ask you to be mine, will you?” He asked in a whisper.

“Wh… What?”

He smiled and released her. His hand went to her hair and brushed it gently.

“Don’t think too much about Paisley, alright? She isn’t worth your tears at all, just forget about her” he said.

He stepped back and inserted his hands into his jeans pocket.

“By the way, you look beautiful” he assessed her dressing.

“But I love your natural self more,” he smiled handsomely.

Melanie blushed lightly by his words.

“Are… Are you really gonna stop smoking?” She asked.

“You don’t trust me? I mean whatever I say, I will… Just for you,” he winked and left the class immediately.

“What the hell! Is he flirting with me?” Melanie groaned, trying to steady her heartbeat which was beginning to beat than its usual rate.

*”Let’s make a bet,” he murmured.

“If you pass it, you’ll be my girlfriend,” he said.

“What if I fail?” She asked breathlessly.

“I’ll be your boyfriend,” he whispered.*

She recalled his words.

“What bet was he talking about?” She mumbled.

Her mind went to the kss they shared a few minutes ago and she touched her lips.

“I really can’t believe this is happening, why the h’ll did I kss him?” She hits her forehead.

“And he kssed me, I returned it and…”

“Melanie?” She turned swiftly and got startled when she saw Kylie.

Don’t tell me…. He saw everything??

“Hey…” She waved awkwardly.

Kylie smiled and went closer to her.

“What are you doing here?”

“How long have you been here?” They asked at once.

Kylie chuckled.

“I came here to think alone, just now tho. Are you fine?” He asked.

“Yes,” she breathed out.

“I also came here to relax,” she bit her lips.

“Oh, that’s cool. We can stay together, right?” He asked.

“Yea, sure”

Kylie sat on a chair opposite her, staring at her face.

“You look beautiful, you’ve always been” he smiled

“Thank you,” Melanie mumbled. His words had no effect on her, but if it were Axel, she would have been a blushing mess by now.

Just what’s wrong with her?

“Did you hear what I said?” Kylie’s voice jolted her back to reality.

“Huh?”

“I said, the students are all talking about you and Axel. They feel like something is going between you two,” He said.

“Of course not, there’s nothing between us. Absolutely,”

“I thought as much. I knew there can never be something between you two,” Kylie muttered.

“Why?” Melanie asked.

“You’re two worlds apart from each other. He’s a playboy, a player. He smokes and drinks, mostly sleeping with girls anyhow. He isn’t good for you, Melanie. He’s a bad influence,” Kylie said

“You’re right,” Melanie mumbled. How could she forget the kind of person he was, yet she made him go closer to her?

What if he was just saying those words just to get to her, like his friend Ace??
