“What is he doing here?” Ophelia muttered as Richard arrived.

“Want me to add more pepper to your eyes so you can keep quiet?” Richard shot back.

“I hate you!” Ophelia spat.

“Thanks,” Richard responded, glaring at her before sitting with Julio.

“You said you needed to talk. What’s it about?” Richard asked.

Julio smiled and patted his shoulder. “He’ll be here soon.”

A few minutes later, Mason, the man tasked with searching for Adriana, walked into the room.

“Sorry for the delay,” he apologized.

“How’s the search for my daughter?” Ophelia asked eagerly, as Julio had informed her earlier.

“I’ve found her,” Mason said.

“Really? You have?” Ophelia’s face lit up.

“Yes,” Mason confirmed.

“Where is she? How did you find her?” Julio asked.

“I used the old childhood photo you gave me. I had some contacts help with the search, and someone in Chicago recognized her,” Mason explained.

“When can we meet her? I want to see my daughter,” Ophelia said, her excitement barely contained.

“You’ll meet her soon. I just need to confirm her identity with a DNA test and check for the mole on the back of her neck,” Mason replied.

“Please do everything you can to bring her to me,” Ophelia urged.

“I’ll do my best,” Mason promised before leaving.

“Finally, I’ll see my daughter again. And that beggar won’t hold any place in your heart anymore,” Ophelia gloated.

“Ophelia!”

“What? I didn’t mention anyone by name.”

Richard stood, and Ophelia quickly hid behind Julio.

“If you’re that scared, then keep your mouth shut. Dad, keep me updated when you find Adriana.”

“Of course. Drive safely,” Julio said.

Richard nodded and left, while Julio fixed his gaze on Ophelia.

“Don’t look at me like that, Julio.”

“I hope you’ll change once we find our daughter,” Julio said before heading upstairs.

“Just wait until my daughter steps foot in this house. I’ll make sure she turns against Richard,” Ophelia murmured with a venomous smirk.

“Really? Your dad is one step ahead in finding his daughter?” Kristin asked as she dried Richard’s hair with a hair dryer. He had just taken a bath, and Kristin offered to help. Kathryn was with her grandparents.

“Yes,” Richard replied.

“How do you feel about it?” she inquired.

“I’m happy. After twenty long years, they’re finally one step closer to finding Adriana.”

“Your dad once told me about her and even showed me a picture. I can’t wait to see her. I wonder what she looks like.”

“Maybe when Ophelia finds her daughter, she’ll stop being a thorn in my side,” Richard said.

“She must’ve been so mean to you,” Kristin sympathized.

“Yes, she was. Growing up, she mistreated me, but my mom’s treatment was even worse.”

“If by chance you see your mom again, what would you do? Just curious,” Kristin asked.

“I have nothing but resentment for her. I’m still searching, and once I find her, it’ll be payback time,” Richard said, his eyes darkening with every word.

Kristin put down the hair dryer and sat on his lap.

“What if she’s dead?”

“She can’t be dead. I’m sure she’s lurking around somewhere.”

“Whatever decision you make, as long as it makes you happy, I’ll support you.”

“Thank you, Forevermore.”

“You’re welcome, Mr. Grouchy,” she teased, and Richard frowned.

“Isn’t it time you changed that?”

“Mr. Grouchy?”

“Yes. I want you to call me something else other than Mr. Grouchy.”
