INTO THE DEPTHS OF LOVE : CHAPTER 111 – 120
“Tell me, Adriana, how did you cope after you got lost in the mall?” Julio asked.
“Isn’t it too early to ask her such questions? My daughter should at least get some rest!” Ophelia interrupted.
“It’s fine, Mom,” Adriana smiled innocently. She walked over to her dad and held his hand.
“You already know I’ve been blessed with a sharp memory. Even as a little girl, I remember everything vividly.
We went to the mall for shopping because it was the weekend. I held your hand while you made a call, but I got distracted by a group of people wearing masks and dancing. I let go of your hand to watch the show.
“When it ended, I couldn’t find you anymore. I called out, cried, but no one came. I tried going home, but I was kidnapped. The kidnappers treated me terribly, until someone rescued me.
He took me to Chicago and asked me to be his daughter. I accepted because I thought you and Mom didn’t want me anymore,” Adriana said, sniffling.
Ophelia quickly cupped Adriana’s face, tears flowing. “That’s not true, Adriana. I searched for you everywhere.
I did all I could to find you but came up empty. I gave birth to you. A mother could never hate her child,” Ophelia said through her tears.
Richard stared at Ophelia. It was the first time he had seen her shed real tears. If someone as scheming as Ophelia could cry for her daughter, Richard wondered why his own biological mother treated him the way she did.
“It’s fine, Mom. I was so happy when Mason came and told me my real parents were looking for me. I’m happy to be back home. You’ve just aged a bit from what I remember,” Adriana smiled, her tears still flowing.
Ophelia laughed through her tears and hugged Adriana tightly. “That’s what time does. I missed you so much, Adriana.”
“I missed you too, *Moi Cheryl*.”
Ophelia pulled away, smiling. “You still remember calling me that?”
“Yes, I do, Mom. I told you, I have a great memory,” Adriana replied as Ophelia gently cupped her face, smiling.
“I’m happy you found your daughter, Dad. I should go now. Kristin is expecting me home.”
“Kristin?” Adriana asked, furrowing her brow at the mention of another woman.
“Yes, my wife.”
“You’re married?” Adriana asked again.
“Yes. Is there a problem?” Richard asked, noticing her expression.
Adriana smiled innocently. “I’m just surprised you’re married. With your cold demeanor, you seem like someone who’s married to work.”
“I am married, and you’ll meet my beautiful wife soon.”
“That won’t happen!” Ophelia snapped, glaring at Richard.
Richard ignored her and turned to Julio. “I’ll be going now, Dad.”
Julio nodded, and Richard left. Adriana’s eyes followed him until he was out of sight.
*Why on earth is he married?* Adriana muttered to herself.
“I’ll show you to your room, Adriana,” Ophelia said. Adriana faked a smile as she followed her, her mind still filled with thoughts of Richard being married.
When they reached her room, Ophelia’s voice snapped her out of her thoughts.
“Your room is just as you left it. I didn’t change a thing because I always hoped I’d find you again, and now here you are.”
