“Adriana!” Ophelia knocked on the door from outside.
Adriana exhaled and quickly put on an innocent face before opening the door. Ophelia immediately took her hand.
“Adriana, please don’t think about leaving. I’ve been separated from you for twenty long years; I don’t want to lose you again.”
“You won’t lose me. I’m not going back to Chicago,” Adriana reassured her.
“Thank you, Adriana. Mom loves you so much,” Ophelia said, hugging her. But Adriana broke the hug.
“I’m curious about something, Mom.”
“What is it? You can ask me anything.”
“Last night, you mentioned something about Kristin having a child out of wedlock. What did you mean by that?”
“Kristin is nothing but a shameless woman! She got drunk, slept with a man she can’t even remember, and had a child.”
“Does Richard know about this?”
“Yes, he does. He’s such a fool for accepting a child from another man.”
An idea formed in Adriana’s mind, and she smiled.
“Mom, I want to be alone for now.”
“Alright. Just don’t think about leaving, okay?”
“I won’t, Mom. I’m mad at Dad, but I won’t leave. You’re my family.” Adriana replied in an innocent voice.
Ophelia caressed her face before leaving. Once alone, Adriana’s true expression emerged.
“So, Kristin isn’t as innocent as I thought. This is going to be fun,” Adriana said, smirking.

“Are you sure you’re okay?” Richard asked Kristin over the phone.
“Yes, I’m fine. You don’t need to worry about me. Falling into the pool last night is behind me, I’m no longer traumatized.
Do you want me to shout so loudly so you can believe me?” Kristin teased, giving out a loud scream.
Richard covered his ear with a smile. “Do you want your husband to go deaf?”
“It’s your fault. I told you I was fine before you left for work, but you still called to check.”
“That’s because I love you too much,” Richard said, and he could hear Kristin smile over the phone.
“I have an exam to write today. Don’t distract me.”
“If you don’t know what to write, I can pay the school to pass you,” Richard teased.
“Mr. Grouchy!” Kristin laughed over the phone.
Richard smiled, switching his phone from his left ear to his right.
“Anyway, good luck on your exam today. You should’ve let me drop you off.”
“If you did, I might end up thinking about you the whole time in the exam hall. I’ll just take one of the cars and go.”
“Alright, if you say so. I love you.”
“I can’t get distracted. Bye!” Kristin said loudly before ending the call.
