INTO THE DEPTHS OF LOVE : CHAPTER 141 – 150

Richard wasn’t the type to cry easily, and Luke knew his mother’s return had reopened old wounds from his painful childhood.

“Richard…” Luke began, trying to comfort him, but Richard stood up.

“I want to be alone,” Richard muttered, wiping his eyes. Just as he was about to leave, the doctor came out of the ward. Richard could see Tabitha moving around behind the glass door.

“What’s her condition?” Richard asked, his eyes still on Tabitha.

“She has amnesia,” the doctor replied.

“Amnesia?” Luke asked, glancing at Richard.

“So she can’t remember anything?” Richard asked, clenching his fists at the thought of Tabitha having forgotten everything she did to him.

“Yes. I believe she was involved in an accident, as her brain is slightly damaged. This has caused her to act abnormally and lose her memory.”

Richard said nothing, but the pain was evident in his eyes.

“You seem emotionally affected, Mr. Richard. You were adopted by the Hernandezes, right? Does that mean she’s your mother?” the doctor asked. Richard shot her a look so cold and the doctor staggered back in fear.

“She is not my mother,” Richard answered coldly. He made to leave, but Luke stopped him.

“Richard…”

“Not now, Luke,” Richard said, pulling his hand away as he walked out of the hospital like a lifeless man.

Knowing that only one person could soothe Richard’s pain, Luke quickly dialed her number.

“What’s up, buddy?” Kristin answered cheerfully.

“Where are you?”

“At home. My heartbeat insists I take my med school lessons at home for now because of our baby. Isn’t he too protective?” Kristin chuckled.

“Well, I think your heartbeat is about to lose his mind.”

“What do you mean?” Kristin asked, her voice now laced with concern.

“He met his mother.”

“What?!”

Kristin rushed into the bar area of Richard’s hotel and found him sitting alone, his back to her.

The bar was empty because Richard had ordered everyone to leave. Kristin walked slowly toward him and sat beside him.

“Heartbeat,” she called softly, and Richard turned to look at her. He stared at his wife for a moment before pulling her into a hug.

“Why did she have to have amnesia? Her having amnesia means she’s forgotten everything she did to me. I wanted to make her pay for every single thing when I saw her again, but how can I get revenge when she’s in this state?

Why is life so unfair, Forevermore? If she was going to suffer, why did fate bring her back to me? How can I have my revenge when she doesn’t even remember me or what she did to me?” Richard cried, his pain spilling out. Luke had been right—Richard could only melt in front of Kristin.

Kristin didn’t know what to say at that moment, so she consoled him, slowly finding her words.

“Sometimes life is unfair, but we just have to embrace whatever it gives us. Take me, for example. I lost my dad even though I wasn’t ready to let him go.

We don’t have control over our lives, Heartbeat. Whatever it gives us, we have to accept it as fate. She may have done terrible things to you, but you can’t abandon her in her predicament, Heartbeat.

At the end of the day, she’s still the woman who brought you into this world,” Kristin said, gently patting him as his head rested on her shoulder.

“I know that, Forevermore, and that’s why it hurts. I can’t do anything to her now because of her condition. Life is unfair,” Richard cried bitterly.

“It’s going to be fine, Heartbeat,” Kristin assured him, wiping away his painful tears.
