INTO THE DEPTHS OF LOVE : CHAPTER 61 – 70
As Richard got closer, Lewis pulled him into a huge tree in the woods.
He covered Richard’s mouth, preventing him from breathing loudly.
With his hands covering Richard’s mouth, Lewis’s eyes peep out from the tree, watching the Police officer searching for Richard.
It was late into the night, but with Lewis’s eyes as clear as that of a bat, he could see the police officer’s face.
“Stay right here” He whispers to Richard.
Coming out from the huge tree, Lewis approached the police officer.
“Looking for something?” He asked and the police officer turned around to look at him.
“Ah, I heard someone died in the woods, did you come here to investigate? Are you one of my dad’s friends? He is also a police officer” Lewis beamed while lying.
He is an orphan, who survived after a fire outbreak in his house.
“Should I inform my dad and tell him to come over?” Lewis pretended he was taking out his phone from his pocket.
“I am leaving” The officer said and leaves.
Lewis watched him until he was out of sight.
“You can come out now, he is gone”
Richard slowly crawled out of the tree, and Lewis smiled at him.
“I’m Lewis, I’m happy to have a new partner. What’s your name?” He asked.
Richard didn’t answer his question, because he fainted on the grassy ground.
Waking up, he found himself inside a treehouse, Lewis’s back on him.
“What are you doing?” He asked.
Lewis faced him and smiled.
“I’m glad you are awake” His hand went to Richard’s forehead and he gasped.
“You’re burning up”
Richard said nothing, but Lewis quickly gave him his bread.
“Here eat this, I am hungry, but you need it more since you’re sick” He smiled.
Richard didn’t hesitate before accepting the bread, in less than a second, he already consumed the bread.
“Whoa! You have a huge appetite, don’t you?”
Lewis smiled, and he brought out some medicines from his torn short pocket.
“Here, drink this. It’s going to help”
“How sure are you?”
“I inquired from the pharmacy and after he told me, I stole it”
“Why will you do that?” Richard asked. He was shivering, his head spinning.
“Because you’re my new friend now” Lewis answered with a smile, but Richard’s face holds no emotion.
Nevertheless, he took the medicines from Lewis.
“What happened to your body? If you were an adult, I’d have said you got beaten by officers, but you are still a kid like me. What happened to you?” Lewis curiously asked.
“I don’t want to talk about it”
“What’s your name?”
“Richard. Why do you live in a treehouse?” Richard asked, his eyes moving around.
“An orphan like me doesn’t have anywhere else but a treehouse. I’m a beggar, you should join me too, that’s the only way street kids in Las Vegas survive”
Richard only stared at him, but from that day forward, he joined Lewis to beg on the street.
They became close friends, Richard never puts on a smile, but Lewis accepted him the way he was.
As their friendship deepened, Richard told his fear of jangling sounds and hatred for women, he didn’t deep by telling him about his evil mother, who tortured him.
Then one night, Richard disappeared like a bubble.
Lewis searched crazily for him, but he couldn’t find him.
