INTO THE DEPTHS OF LOVE : CHAPTER 81 – 90
Kathryn pouted. “I don’t know what my real daddy looks like. But Daddy Richard has all the features I want my daddy to have. He’s tall, handsome, and he has gray eyes—just like me!” She grinned, clearly pleased with her own reasoning.
Romina couldn’t help but smile at the innocence of it all. Kathryn was only six, but she had such a big heart and an even bigger imagination.
“I’m going to tell Daddy Richard he has gray eyes just like me!” Kathryn declared before suddenly bolting off toward the street.
“Kat!” Romina yelled, scrambling to her feet to chase after her.
Kathryn had darted into the road, unaware of the car that was speeding toward her. Romina’s heart stopped as she watched, helpless and frozen in fear. Just before the car could hit her, a man rushed forward and scooped Kathryn up, pulling her out of harm’s way.
“Are you okay, kid?” Luke asked, kneeling to check on her.
“I want to see Daddy Richard,” Kathryn replied innocently, oblivious to the danger she had just escaped.
“Daddy Richard? Why does that name “Richard” sound familiar?” Luke muttered under his breath, still holding Kathryn securely.
Romina ran over, her heart still racing from the near accident. She grabbed Kathryn, pulling her close. “Why did you run off like that, Kat? You could’ve gotten hurt!”
“I’m sorry, Aunt Romina. I just wanted to see Daddy Richard,” Kathryn said, her voice small and apologetic.
Romina sighed, her emotions still raw. “He’s not your daddy, sweetie.”
“I want him to be. He’s got my gray eyes,” Kathryn insisted.
Before Romina could respond, Luke who had saved Kathryn spoke up again. “Is she your daughter?”
Romina slowly turned to face Luke, his voice sweet and soothing.
The moment her eyes met Luke’s striking emerald gaze, time seemed to stand still.
All she could see was him, standing tall, flashing those irresistible dimples.
Her heart pounded in her chest as she stared at Luke, who appeared like an angel who just descended from heaven.
“Miss?” Luke waved a hand, trying to snap her out of her trance, but Romina’s eyes remained locked on his captivating green eyes. With a soft smile, she said the words that came naturally to her.
“I love you”

Luke furrowed his eyebrows at her words, wondering if she was slightly mentally unstable.
“You love me?” he asked.
Romina blinked rapidly, realizing what she had just said. “Huh?”
“Why would you say you love me?” Luke inquired again.
Romina stared at him, at a loss for words. She began laughing, making Luke wonder what part of what he said was funny.
“I was actually referring to the banner behind you,” Romina said quickly, rushing to the banner that had a picture of a celebrity on it. “I’m a big fan of his. I love you!” She grinned and kissed the banner.
Romina knew deep down that she was lying; in fact, she had no idea who the celebrity was. It was just her way of covering up that she had fallen for Luke at first sight.
Luke shook his head as he watched her kiss the banner.
“Do you know where my Daddy Richard is?” Kathryn asked, holding onto the hem of his shirt.
Luke smiled at her. “I doubt the Richard I know is the one you’re looking for. The Richard I know hates kids.”
“I want to see my Daddy Richard again,” Kathryn pouted.
Luke bent down to her height and gently caressed her round, cute face.
“You’re so cute. How about this: if I see you next time, I’ll help you look for your Daddy Richard. Does that sound good?”
