Episode 6
?Paris Myers?
“The specialist there took a test done for him”. She adds.
“Aunt, what happened? Is everything okay ?”.
“I’m sorry, Paris but it looks like Rio won’t be able to walk again even if a surgery is done!”.
I felt like my whole world crashed down as tears rushed towards the brink of my eyes.
“W-What?”.
“I’m sorry, Paris. But thats what they said”. She continued.
“But Aunt Jenny, how is that possible? I mean, they are doctors, can’t they do it?”.
“Well I thought the same thing but they proved me wrong”.
“So Rio is not going to walk again?”. I ask as tears slipped down my eyes.
“Paris, don’t cry, there are other hospitals around, I’m sure that they can get Rio to walk again”.
“But what if he can’t?”.
Elaine touched me softly and I realized that she was still there. I nod smiling a little at her before wiping my tears away.
“Then I’ll fly him to another country. But for now, I’ll check out every doctor in America, don’t you worry about your brother, he’ll be fine”.
“Thank you, Aunt”.
“You are welcome, sweetheart. I just felt like informing you about the situation but don’t worry, okay?”.
“Okay”.
“I love you, okay? And I’ll make sure Rio gets to walk just fine, hmm! Have a nice day at school. I love you”.
“I love you too, Aunt”.
The call was disconnected and I slowly remove the phone away from my ear as I sniffed back my tears.
“Hey! Paris, everything good?”. Elaine asked staring at me.
“Yeah”. I hastily cleaned my tears. “I’m fine, thanks for asking”.
“Oh. Look , I don’t mean to pry in whatever that you are going through but I know that something bad happened with the way you were crying over the phone”.
“Its just something personal”.
“I know but like my grandma always say, this too shall pass, so whatever you are going through, it will pass”.
“Thank you , Elaine”. I say smiling a little.
She giggled. “You are welcome, Paris. So lets go? Its lunch time, we can also talk about our project there too”.
“Sure”.
I held to my backpack tightly as I walked behind her. She stepped out of the class heading into the hallway.
I tucked my hands in my hoodie pocket as I walk through the hallways conscious of the stares from most of the students.
Why are they all staring at me like that? Or maybe its just my imagination.
“They are actually trying to see your face”. Elaine said as if hearing my thoughts.
“Ooh”.
“Yeah and the fact that you are in a hoodie makes them more curious to know who you are”.
“But why?”. I asked her meekly.
“Well here in Berkeley High, all that matters is your looks, your background, like poor and ugly kids aren’t accepted here”.
“Oh”.
“But at least you are not ugly, well if you would take off your hoodie, I’ll know”.
“So where’s the cafeteria?”. I asked trying to distract her statement.
“Oh, its just right there”.
She held my hand taking me over there and I followed behind her meekly. We got in and I gaped surprised at the sight.
Geez! Is this a school’s cafeteria or an enchanting place?
Okay, this place is way too expensive to be a cafeteria. I mean, its just woah.
“Wow, right?”. Elaine asked breaking into my thoughts. “I had the same expression when I was admitted into Berkeley High”.
“This place is huge”.
“Well Berkeley High has students from all high ranking families, everyone you see here comes from a wealthy family, so thats where this school gets all its money from, precisely”.
“Wow”.
“And even the vice president’s daughter, Tamika Hepburn attends this school”.
“I believe that”. I commented still staring around.
“Come on, lets go get our lunch”.
I stopped in my tracks. “But I didn’t bring any lunch money”.
“The lunches here are free, its actually on the school”.
“Oh”.
“You like saying that word, don’t you?”.
I didn’t reply as she took me to where the server was. I got there and noticed that had different server for every dish.
I turned to Elaine but she was engrossed in a conversation with another student.
“Paris”. She turned to me. “I’m sorry but the principal needs me right there, you are okay with that, right?”.
“Yeah sure, you can go on there”.
“Thanks and don’t forget to get what you want, bye”.
I smile as she waved at me walking off, I laugh to myself at the thought of having a new friend so fast on the first day.
I hope this day continues like this.
“And what will you like to have?”. The server asks nicely.
I ordered what I wanted and then received it, I held the tray pausing a moment as I wonder where I’d sit.
There were booths in every corner of the cafeteria but I searched around for an empty one.
I sigh seeing one then I sat down placing it on the round table. I noticed the gazes that other students gave me but I just waved it off.
I was about to uncover the dish when a hand slammed on my table forcing me to look up.
In front of me was a girl chewing bubble gum and she crossed her arms frowning at me.
“You have five seconds to disappear right now or I’m gonna do something you’ll regret in your entire life”.
Huh? What is she talking about?

?Xavier Marion?
“Enough of the lecturing, Violet, I’m damn hungry”.
“Why? You didn’t eat at home?”.
“I couldn’t. I don’t know why but I’m kinda getting this feeling of a traitor back at home and besides I was too busy to eat”.
“You could have just told Diamond to cook, you know”.
“No, thank you”. I refused abruptly. “I still want to live”.
“Wait. Diamond still hasn’t learn how to cook?! I thought she took cooking classes back in Miss Silver’s house”.
“Well she burnt down the house”.
“Come on, Xavier, she can’t be that bad”.
“Oh, I’m serious here, she burnt down the whole house”.
Violet chuckled lightly. “Come on, lets go eat”.
I stood up heading out the door with her right beside me then we took a turn into the main hallway where most students were.
I glanced at Violet surprised to see that she linked both our arms together entangling our fingers intertwined.
“Violet? What are you doing?”. I asked trying to shrug my arm away.
“Come on, Xavier. The students still have to think that you are into girls or they will start suspecting that you like boys instead”.
“I’m not ashamed of Sam”. I said quietly.
“Well you should be, heck! Xavier, I can get you a million girls who are willing to die for you”.
“I’m not interested in girls, Violet”.
“At all? I mean, you don’t even have this feeling?”.
“No and even if I did like girls then you would have been the first girl I’ll ask out”.
I watch as her cheeks turn almost pink due to the blush rushing in them.
“But I’ll rather be with Sam”. I added.
She rolled her eyes at the mention of his name muttering something beneath her breath.
I wanted to say a word but I let it slide as we walk into the cafeteria. Immediately, the girls began shuffling and I could hear light whisperings among them.
At least, its now whisperings.
Back then, I used to have bodyguards with me because of the way they acted when I’ll walk into the cafeteria.
Either they’ll scream their lungs out or one of them will faint. Or all of them will try to touch me.
I’m really glad that it isn’t like that now tho.
“Looks like Berkeley is bullying again”.
I turned towards where Violet referred to just the moment Berkeley talked harshly at some girl.
I paused realizing it was the same girl who sat next to me earlier this morning.
Her name rhymes with my favorite city.
Um, yeah! Paris!
“Sometimes I wish Berkeley can be put in her place”. Violet muttered still staring at them.
I still stood there and watched wanting to see her real face behind the hoodie. I only saw part of it but I want to see all.
“I wonder why the girl is wearing a hoodie anyways”. Violet continued dragging me to our booth.
The whole cafeteria gasped as I looked back to see Berkeley has spilled spaghetti on her face.
Then she dragged her out of the booth pushing her onto the floor just as the blue hoodie came off.
Almost immediately, half of the cafeteria began laughing as the girl recoiled looking terrified, more like scared.
“Ugh! Her face got too much burns”. Violet faked a gag. “She’s just plain ugly with the scars”.
“You got it wrong, she’s still beautiful”.
