CHAPTERS 41 – 50.

THE STUBBORN TORTURER.

A small smile tugged at the corners of Kracus’s lips as he watched Tesiera pass out in his arms. He had seen the look of sheer horror on her face before she collapsed, and he knew that his presence had been the cause of it.

The driver must have seen the trouble he was in because he hurried up towards him. “Here, take Hazel,” Kracus commanded, gently allowing the driver to take the sleeping child from him. “Lay her in the master’s bedroom to sleep.”

“Yes, sir,” the driver replied, cradling Hazel in his arms and disappearing into the beach house.

Kracus stood for a moment, Tesiera still hanging off his arm, and watched as the driver disappeared into the house with Hazel. Then, he lifted her into his arms and followed the path the driver had taken.

As he carried her, unbidden, his eyes took in her face. He couldn’t help but think how beautiful she was, even with the cuts and bruises on her face. The tension in her body had dissolved, and she looked so pliant and vulnerable in his arms. He felt her warmth and softness against his chest.

She felt good in his arms, he thought against his better judgment.

Memories of the way she had fought relentlessly earlier in the day flooded his mind, and how she had thrown herself in front of an incoming bullet to save him. At that moment, the little misgivings he’d had about hiring her died. She had looked him in the eyes and told him that she would protect him with her life, and now he knew that she had truly meant it.

He walked into his beach house and went through to the adjoining bedroom, laying her down on the bed. Her head slowly dropped to the side, and he couldn’t help but drink in the sight of her elegant neck. Her face was still a little bloody, but it didn’t take away her beauty.

As he looked at her, he felt a strange pull in his chest, an attraction that he knew he shouldn’t be feeling. He muttered a cuss under his breath and pulled away from her. This is a very bad idea, he cautioned himself.

But just then, a loud scream filled the air, and Hazel was screaming from the master bedroom. The scream was so loud that he couldn’t ignore it, so he walked to his room and saw the child throwing a fit, even though her eyes were still closed in sleep.

“Sir,” the older driver said helplessly.

“Don’t worry, Frederick, I’ll take it from here.” Kracus moved closer, and the driver moved away from the bed so that he could take his place. “Go to the car and get me the treatment boxes.”

“Which of them, sir?” the driver asked.

“Box 2 and 3,” Kracus replied. He needed the sleeping drug in box 2 for Hazel, and he needed the third box to treat Tesiera’s gunshot wound.

“Copy that, sir.” The driver hurried out of the room.

Kracus began patting Hazel’s back to soothe her, but the little girl was still crying. He tried to calm her down, but she just kept screaming and thrashing around on the bed.
He kept patting her soothingly while waiting for Fredrick to come back with the boxes.

REVENGE WITH LOVE : CHAPTER 41 – 50

Tesiera jolted awake to the sound of a child’s screams, her head pounding as she tried to piece together how she had ended up lying in a soft bed. Hell, she really fainted.

Slowly rising from the bed, suppressing a groan of mortification, while palming her aching head. She strained to hear his voice in the other room, but she couldn’t make out what he was saying.

Feeling the need to wash away the day’s events, she made her way to the bathroom, shedding her bloodied leather clothes along the way. She turned on the shower faucet, letting the cold water trickle down before increasing the pressure. As the water cascaded down her body, she winced in pain as it streamed over her injured left shoulder blade, where a bullet fragment still remained lodged.

Tesiera turned to the mirror to scrutinize the wound, taking a deep breath before tentatively reaching behind her with the intention to remove the bullet. She gritted her teeth as excruciating pain shot through her body, but she refused to let out a scream. She broke out in a cold sweat as she dug around in the wound, trying to remove the fragment, but it proved difficult given the odd angle she had to position her arm.

A soft knock on the bathroom door interrupted her thoughts, and she froze, her eyes trained on the closed door.

“I see you’re awake. I’ll advise you to stop poking around and let me look at that wound. You’re only hurting yourself,” his deep voice was calm and steady.

Suppressing the pain, Tesiera replied, “I’m good, sir,” her voice strong and unwavering.

“In case you’re forgetting, I’m a trained doctor. A surgeon, I specialize in things like this, and it’s not advisable for someone who’s untrained in the medical field to take out a bullet. It’s risky, you could get infected or worse still, you could—”

“Experience is the best teacher,” Tesiera snapped curtly, but immediately regretted her tone, realizing that she had been rude to her boss. “Sir…” she added, hoping to temper her impoliteness.

Although she knew he was right, the truth was that she despised the idea of anyone touching her. She had grown accustomed to treating her injuries on her own, and she didn’t know how to react when someone offered to help her, especially him. She couldn’t ignore the strange feelings that surfaced whenever he was close, or the inexplicable sensation she felt when he wrapped his arm around her waist earlier, saving her from falling.

“Bullet wounds are tricky,” his voice broke the silence, drawing her out of her thoughts. “Just because you were able to do this before doesn’t mean you could do it all the time. This one broke into fragments, and if a professional doesn’t take a look, it could be dangerous for you, especially if the fragment travels down to a critical part of your body and isn’t removed.”

Tesiera remained silent, and Kracus knew when to back off. He took a deep breath and turned to leave the room, the sound of his footsteps echoing in the background.

For over an hour, she remained in the bathroom, trying to remove the bullet from her arm. In the end, she gave up because the mirror was too foggy to see anything. So, she wrapped a white towel around her body and stepped out of the bathroom.

As she stepped into the bedroom, she stilled at the sight of a big box on the bed with the label “Box 3” boldly written on it. What box is this?

Curiosity piqued, Tesiera walked towards the box and opened it. Her eyes widened in surprise as she saw that the box was filled with all sorts of medical supplies, ranging from bandages to surgical tools. Everything she needed was in this box.

All except a pair of helping hands. Mentally, she slammed the door against that voice in her head.

Tesiera needed to thank him, so she opened the door of her bedroom and saw Kracus coming out of the master’s bedroom as well. They paused for a moment in the hallway, and an awkward silence ensued.

She noticed that he had also freshly showered, and she couldn’t help but admire his slightly-drenched hair that was sleeked back. With his hair away from his face now, his gray eyes were the central highlight of his face, and their mesmerizing essence appealed greatly to Tesiera, even though she’d never bring herself to admit it.

Her nose crinkled in disgust at herself for letting herself ogle at him. She shook off the thoughts, “Thank you for the box, sir,” she said politely, and inclined her head.

Kracus simply nodded and headed towards the sitting room. She watched him leave, wondering what the hell was wrong with her. Normally, she wasn’t one to linger on the physical features of a man, no matter how good looking he was. But for some reason, Kracus had managed to make her forget about the bullet in her arm and focus on him.

Back in her bedroom, Tesiera took the box kit and placed it on the dresser beside the mirror. She opened the box and dug around the kit until she found the tool she was looking for—an angled microfracture chisel. A thin metal with a small curve at the end.

Tesiera rinsed around the injury with water and used spirit to disinfect the entrance and also poured some of it over the chisel for disinfection as well. She shut her eyes and sucked in a breath as she mentally prepared herself for the excruciating pain, and then she inserted the chisel into the bullet hole.

The harsh, brutal pain hit her with a paralyzing intensity, making her clench her jaw tightly. It was enough to make her scream deafening cries, but she didn’t. She further slotted in the chisel and the pain increased threefold, the blood started gushing out with a force that rivaled a waterfall, and she put the arm over the sink, letting the blood flow down the drainage. She navigated the path, searching for the bullet but she couldn’t find it.

Tesiera continued to carefully dig about her flesh to find the bullet and the more time she spent swooshing around the chisel, the more the pain tripled and the more blood that flowed.

A single tear streamed down her shut eyelids. Hospitals would administer doses of anesthesia to make the patient not feel any discomfort but in the absence of pain meds, Tesiera surfed through all agonizing waves of pain this procedure delivered acutely. Yet, she wasn’t able to find it.

And then, Tesiera felt a bigger pair of hands over hers as they stopped her from going any further with her apparent suicide mission—if she continued in this reckless tract, she’d loose too much blood and then she’d be in a real risk.

She was so focused on what she was doing, her full concentration didn’t make her realize when someone had entered her room and into her bathroom as well, she didn’t even know she had left the doors unlocked. Thank goodness she was in a towel.

She tilted her head around and her teary eyes met with the gentle gray spheres that looked at her with apparent worry.

Acting on a reflexive instinct, Tesiera immediately opened her mouth to oppose before Kracus even let out any offer to help her. “I can handle it on—”

“Let me do it, Tesiera.” His voice was so gentle, she felt it like a caress. Slowly, she conceded by letting go of the chisel.

“Thank you.” She replied in a near whispery tone and she stared at their reflections on the bedroom mirror, watching as he skillfully started acting upon the wound.

“Christ, you’ve lost so much blood…Are you trying to kill yourself?” He reprimanded firmly, but she caught the underlying worry and a little bit of annoyance at her carelessness.

She remained silent as she didn’t know what to say, she was used to being in solitude and solving her issues alone. Letting somebody actually offer help to her sounded foreign to her.

“It’s going to hurt a lot, since you’re not on anesthesia. But at least, you will be safe. Are you ready?” Kracus added and she gave a slight nod of approval then Kracus began tenderly attending to it.

REVENGE WITH LOVE : CHAPTER 41 – 50

A sheet of paper laid on the bedside table and the three fragments stained with blood were on top of it. Kracus and Tesiera were on the bed and he was bandaging her wound.

The procedure was a success and a safe one at that. Tesiera hasn’t spoken a single word since and Kracus knew that she was most likely speaking a million in her mind.

He silently wished she’d start to ease up around him a little, he wished the rigidness and uptightness would fizzle away and they’d start on a fresh slate. But then again, she was definitely this way to everyone else, it wasn’t just to him; a socially detached and broken yet scarily fierce woman.

His hands moved around her porcelain skin as he bandaged her up, and he couldn’t stop himself from noticing how enticingly soft her skin was. For a woman like her, you’d think her skin and body would mirror the energy she gives off—strong and cold, but it was quite the opposite.

Her body was soft and warm. Kracus lost his self–control and shamelessly let his wandering gaze study every detail of the redhead woman in a towel that sat in front of him.

Tonight, it was just the two of them, alone. But contrary to the other quite dangerous and tense times when they were alone in the room, the air has been cleared between them now.

He was seeing her in a brand new, fresh light and he was getting to find every moment of it seemingly interesting. He could get used to this new–ish side of hers, it was thrilling. She was thrilling.

He’d never met anyone who took pain better than she did. He’d just removed fragments of bullets from her shoulder blaze without anesthetics but she’d swallowed down the pain. No wonder she was The Torturer.

The woman was everything that spelt breathtaking in bold, highlighted letters. Gorgeous. Despite the swellings and bruises on her face.

His dïck hardened in his pants. “Shit.” He cussed underneath his breath.

“What’s the matter?” She craned her head around trying to see his face.

“Nothing,” He muttered, prompting a smile on his face. He shifted uncomfortably on his spot and awkwardly cleared his throat.

You’re attracted to a woman that nearly killed you, twice, man. It doesn’t get more stupid than that.

You shouldn’t be attracted to her. You shouldn’t, he told himself firmly.

Perhaps, if he said that enough, he could kill the damn feeling before it fully emerged. Right?
