REVENGE WITH LOVE : CHAPTER 41 – 50

CHAPTER 45 & 46

As evening approached, Tesiera found herself sitting alone in the living room, her thoughts wandering aimlessly. Her little companion had finally drifted off to sleep after a day of playing and eating to her heart’s content. Kracus, on the other hand, had been busy with work all day, he hadn’t come out of the study room.

After she’d made bacon for breakfast—one of the very few dishes she was good at—an older couple came around to tidy up the beach house. Turns out they are the caretakers in charge of taking care of the beach house.

Mary, the older woman, had cooked lunch and dinner and kept Hazel entertained with stories and games. It was a welcomed intervention. This gave Tesiera enough time to retreat to her bedroom, take a shower, change her bandage, and put on a clean outfit that Mary had provided, which surprisingly fit her perfectly. The couple had left an hour ago.

Now, as she stared blankly at the TV screen, Kracus’s voice suddenly broke through her thoughts.

“Are you even watching that?” Kracus’ voice came.

She jumped, startled, and turned to see him standing behind her. It seemed he had been there for a while.

“I don’t like reality shows. They are boring,” Tesiera said, trying to sound nonchalant.

“Likewise. It’s all scripted and that defeats the purpose of it being reality, don’t you think?” Kracus replied, moving closer to her. He stood in front of her, hands on his hips, looking amused.

“What?” Tesiera asked, feeling self-conscious.

“You look really, really bored,” Kracus said, a small smile playing on his lips.

Tesiera shrugged, feeling a bit defensive. “Are you done working?”

“For now. Thank you for keeping Hazel company. I bet you haven’t been around a lot of children before, it must have been hard,” Kracus said, taking a seat next to her on the couch.

“It wasn’t so bad,” Tesiera said, surprised by her own words because she meant it. “Mary helped out too.”

“Oh yes. May and James love her so much. I’m so glad to see that Hazel is back to her old playful self. It seems she’d forgotten all about the attack.” He took a seat beside her, leaving only a small space between them.

Tesiera was about to put more space between them when his hand touched her bandaged shoulder, “How’s the wound today?”

“Better,” she answered, relieved that her voice came out firm in contrast to her fluttered insides. No one has ever been this observant about her before.

“It’s a good thing you changed the bandage already. I hope the bleeding has stopped?” Kracus asked, his eyes examining the bandage closely.

“Yes,” Tesiera replied, feeling a bit uncomfortable with Kracus’s close proximity to her. “An expert handled it, so it should be healing well.”

He nodded in satisfaction, “I’ll examine it before you go to bed tonight,” Kracus said, his tone serious.

“I’m fine—“Tesiera started to say, but Kracus interrupted her.

“I have an idea. We’ve been indoors all day. How about do something you’ll find fun?” Kracus suggested, his eyes twinkling mischievously as he changed the subject.

Tesiera remained unamused, “Not interested,” she deadpanned.

Kracus ignored the flat statement, “There’s a gun range in the basement. How do you feel about a little challenge, huh? Tesiera the Torturer?” he teased, waggling his eyebrows playfully.

Tesiera was taken aback, but also intrigued by the idea of a challenge. “A challenge?” she asked, her interest piqued.

“Yep. Come on, let’s go to the basement.” Kracus got up and began walking to the door.

Tesiera hesitated, then she got up and followed him.

Kracus opened up the door and it was the basement transformed into a sturdy gun range. There were three bullseyes on the wall, and a shelf containing assorted guns. Tesiera gave a small nod of impressment as they further went into the range.

“Alright, the challenge is easy. Whoever gets to hit the bullseye the most, wins. Let’s have a round of ten.” Kracus proposed. “Those are the guns, they’re about twenty of them so you can choose whichever. Just make sure you hit the target.” He added, pointing to the shelf and Tesiera’s attention spanned there. She went over to the shelf and picked a gun then cocked it.

Tesiera went over to the marked spot where she would stand to make the play and Kracus stood with folded arms and watched her. She cocked the gun and aimed at the bullseye, she set her sights acutely, steadied her grip, and then she pulled the trigger.

Taking the gun away, she saw that the bullet was a mark away from the target. She hit close, but she’d missed the bullseye.

“That’s a very good shot,” he praised and clapped for her.

His praise did something to her insides that she refused to acknowledge. “Thanks.”

Kracus went up to the shelf and picked up a gun. He came up to the target and focused the gun on the target. It didn’t take him long to mark the target before he took the shot.

It landed directly at the bullseye. A clean, perfect shot.

Tesiera was caught off guard and her surprise was so great that her jaw fell open in astonishment. She was good in all kinds of combat, but she was way better with knives than guns. It was rare to see a shooter hit bullseye so perfectly.

He was suddenly in front of her and gently lifted her chin with his hand, guiding her jaw back to its rightful place and closing her mouth.

“You’ll catch flies,” he drawled with a smug smirk. “I’m in the lead. We should’ve placed a bet on this, would’ve made it more interesting.”

Tesiera rolled her eyes at that and stepped away from his close proximity. She positioned herself for her second shot.

Kracus noticed her stance and angling of the gun were slightly wrong.

As she stood poised, her eyes locked onto the target ahead, Tesiera’s senses were heightened, every muscle in her body taut with concentration. She was on the cusp of pulling the trigger when a sudden brush of air caressed her skin. Startled, she turned to see him there, Kracus, his presence looming behind her.

In an instant, his body pressed up against hers, causing her heart to skip a beat. She felt his warm breath on the nape of her neck, his hands taking hold of hers, guiding them to the perfect position for the shot.

“If you want to target the bullseye, you have to make sure your aim is directly in front of it; not slightly lower or slightly higher.” His voice was a low rumble in her ear.

Tesiera found herself distracted, her attention drawn to the barely-there space between their bodies. She has been close to men before but they’d never created any kind of chaos inside her.

But the sensation this man stirred inside her was entirely foreign to her. Normally, she would have pushed such thoughts from her mind, but this time, it was impossible to ignore them.

Her hands lowered, and she swiveled her head to gaze into his eyes. The move brought their heads very close to each other, their eyes met and held. At the same time, they lowered their gazes to each other’s lips.

“Hell,” he cursed lowly. He wrapped a strong arm around her waist, pulling her very close to him.

Then, their lips moved closer…
