CHAPTER 146

Jasmine’s Pov

“Can I have everyone’s attention please?” Mandy announced for the second time as I stood glued to my spot, the whole place went quiet instantly, the soft music stopped, even Roland and Mika who were arguing stopped to face Mandy

“What in the hèlls name are you doing here, Mandy?” Jayson’s voice pierced through the silence and Mandy smiles, I don’t know why but I have a bad feeling about the way she’s been smiling at me, it’s weird, it’s unusual….. it’s giving me the creeps

Mrs Mantinda fast pace towards the podium and Mandy held her hand out, stopping her dead on her tracks, I gasped silently, this is the first time I’m seeing Mrs Mantinda completely helpless, I’ve known her to be a triumphant woman, who always stand with her head up high but seeing her helpless?…… it’s something I never thought I would experience

“Don’t you dare move an inch closer, same goes for you Jayson…… because I don’t see why you are so keen on supporting that thing you call a wife when as a matter of fact, she isn’t” the microphone boomed across the entire space and i freezed harder, my hands slipping from Jayson’s hold but he held me instead, I just stood numbed, can’t move, can’t breathe…… just staring at Mandy who’s slowly cat walking towards is……….

“What the fúck is that supposed to mean?” Avia pushed through the crowd as she blocked Mandy’s movement with her body, glaring at Mandy who in turn is glaring back….. I’m surprised lazer beams aren’t shooting from their eyes with the intense gaze

“Why don’t we ask Jasmine herself?, She knows exactly what I’m talking about, isn’t that right Jasmine?” Mandy’s gaze redirected to me, I stepped backwards…. shaking my head as Jayson tried to stop me……

I don’t need a soothsayer to tell me Mandy is out to ruin me completely, the media are here, they are currently filming the whole thing, most people are filming with their goddamn phones and all attention is on me, the crowd sprawl in a large circle, leaving me and Jayson in the middle while Mandy stood in front

“Star, what is talking about?” Jayson asked me while holding my shoulders and I blinked repeatedly with no response, I can’t say anything….. this isn’t how I wanted to tell him….. this isn’t how I wanted the truth to come out, it’s not only going to ruin my carefully crafted relationship with Jayson, but Mrs Mantinda is going to get it hot from the media, she is the mastermind behind the whole contract shît anyway

“Mandy you better stop this madness…..” Mrs Mantinda growled harshly as she approached Mandy

“And why should I Mother?, Don’t you think it’s about time your son knows the truth?, He deserves to know the dirty secret you and your nasty daughter in-law have been hiding….” And the crowd gasped again…… everyone is starting to close in on us

I saw the anger on Mandy fading from Avia’s face, Noah also has a poker look on….. he’s staring at me with a questioning look?……. heck even Roland isn’t interfering, everyone except Mika is looking at me with that stabbing look….. it’s as if I’ve betrayed the world, Mrs Mantinda looks defeated and Jayson…… Jayson is searching my eyes for answers

“What truth is she talking about?, Jasmine, what is she saying?….. Mom!, say something!” Jayson breaks the akward silence as my hands traced his face……tears gathering my eyes as everyone is looking at me, Mandy walked closer and handed the microphone over to me….I looked at her and she smriks as I collect it with shaky hands, my whole body is literally shaking as I felt eyes boring holes into my skin

I stepped away from Jayson with shaky steps, I saw the tears in Mrs Mantinda’s eyes and that’s when I realized what she said

“The right time might be too late” her words echoed repeatedly in my ears as I gulped down, I can taste the silence in the air, the glares, the confusion, the anticipation, the gasped and the damn spotlight on me, Jayson eyes never left mine as I saw his chest heaving heavily, he’s agitated, I can see the quizzical look in his eyes, I’m going to hurt him

“It’s a contract” I voiced out and it revibrated in the entire space, I closed my eyes tightly, today is the last day of the whole charade so I might as well just get on with it, my hands are shaking and I’m surprised that I’m still standing, I saw the hurt in Roland’s eyes, I saw the sadness in Mika’s eyes, I saw the shock in Noah’s eyes and Avia just stood confused

So much for a surprise party, turns out I’m the one doing the surprise.
