THE CURSE OF ALTVALL : CHAPTER 11 – 20
Fire Beneath the Chains
The Execution Grounds had never been more crowded.
From every corner of Altvall Island, humans and werewolves were herded like cattle toward the obsidian square beneath Surganah’s throne.
The black stone stage, towering and cruel, gleamed under the blood-red dawn. This was no mere punishment.
This was theatre.
The girl who dared to strike the One was to be made an example—a spectacle. A warning carved into flesh and soul.
Surganah watched from his high throne, his scarred chest bound in runes and black silks, a heavy cloak trailing down the stairs.
Though the poison had weakened him, his gaze still held the weight of death. A new fury danced in his eyes—a madness that even his loyal werewolves dared not meet.
The Supernatural Pot, now cracked slightly at the rim, sat by his side, whispering ancient echoes that only he could hear.
“You bled, Lord. They saw. That cannot be undone.”
He silenced it with a clawed fist. His voice boomed across the grounds.
“People of Altvall,” he began, his tone velvet and venom, “behold the price of arrogance.”
Two guards dragged Lyara into view.
The crowd gasped. Her body was torn and bloodied, but her spirit… it hadn’t dimmed. She didn’t cry. She didn’t beg. She stared directly at Surganah.
“You should’ve died,” she spat.
The crowd trembled.
Surganah chuckled darkly, descending the steps with calculated grace. “Yet I didn’t. And you—will wish you had.”
He paced around her like a predator circling prey. “Tell them, Lyara. Tell them what you tried to do. Show them how your rebellion ends.”
Lyara, lips bloodied, took a shaky breath and turned her eyes to the crowd.
“I did what all of you should’ve done,” she said, her voice gaining strength with every word. “He’s not a god. He can bleed.”
A ripple went through the crowd.
A slap cracked across her face, delivered by Surganah himself.
Her head snapped sideways, blood trailing from her lip. But when she looked back at him, she smiled.
“You’re scared, Surganah,” she whispered.
His eyes flashed with rage.
From behind him, Alpha Rador stepped forward. “Shall we silence her, my lord?”
