THE CURSE OF ALTVALL : CHAPTER 31 – 40

Surganah rose slowly from his throne, his long cloak whispering across the black-stone floor.

He walked toward the open window and stared out at the flickering torches below, where the people of Altvall moved like shadows—silent, fearful, broken once more under his rule.

Let them tremble, he thought.
Let them cower and whisper of hope lost.

Because soon, they may kneel before something greater—a child born of shadow and dominance. A prince of the darkness. His son.

But as the hope began to take root, something else coiled beneath it.

A venomous doubt.

Gaige.

The thought struck him like a cold slap. She had mated with the wolf before the ritual… before she had been his.

A growl trembled in his throat.

He turned away from the window, pacing now, his claws dragging soft lines along the stone walls.

No. The child must be his.

It had to be.

Because if it wasn’t… If it bore Gaige’s blood… then the prophecy might already be spinning against him.

He hadn’t seen it. Hadn’t planned for it.

A child of Gaige would be dangerous.

He would be powerful.

Vengeful.

And worst of all—blessed by the Superior.

Surganah paused, hands clenched behind his back. His breath was ragged, his mind a hurricane. He couldn’t ask the spirits yet.

He couldn’t let them know how much he feared it. Power was control—and to show doubt was to feed his enemies, even those made of smoke and bone.

No. He would wait.

Watch.

Study Audrey’s behavior. Listen to how the child stirred. Wait for signs of what blood it carried.

But his heart—his cursed, still-beating heart—betrayed him. With every moment that passed, it whispered both hope and dread.

He had destroyed Gaige.

But had he truly erased him?

Surganah turned his gaze once more toward the locked wing where Audrey rested. Her face haunted his thoughts—not with love, never with love—but with purpose.

Her body still glowed faintly with the energy of the mating bond. The residue of passion. The lies of seduction. And now… the life of something unknown.

He would not ask the pot yet.

Not until he was ready for the answer.

Until then, he would cling to the silence.

Because sometimes silence was kinder than truth.
