THE CURSE OF ALTVALL : CHAPTER 41 – 50

The Queen And The Child

Audrey sat on the edge of the cold stone bench, her arms folded tightly across her chest as though shielding herself from more than just the chill in the air.

Her thoughts were loud—louder than the silence around her. Her eyes were locked on the heavy black doors that led into Surganah’s personal chamber—doors no mortal had ever entered and returned from.

What is he doing to my child?

Her heart beat like thunder in her chest, wild and anxious. Every second felt like a lifetime. She had heard the stories. Everyone on Altvall had.

That place—the dark heart of Surganah’s lair—was a tomb for any who dared enter without his will. A realm of shadows, curses, and unseen horrors.

And now, her child was in there.

A single tear slipped down her cheek. She didn’t bother wiping it away.

Audrey had no way of knowing what was happening inside, no clue what the supernatural pot might be revealing—or hiding—from Surganah.

She only knew one thing: her child was too innocent, too pure, to be wrapped up in this monstrous web of power and bloodlines.

She closed her eyes and whispered a prayer to whatever force still had the power to hear her on this cursed island.

Please… protect him. Whoever he belongs to. Whatever he becomes.

Just then, the heavy doors creaked open.

Audrey’s eyes snapped open, and her breath caught in her throat.

There stood Surganah—his face strangely calm, almost… pleased? His long cloak fluttered slightly behind him as he stepped forward. But what truly made Audrey rise to her feet was the child in his arms.

Her baby—safe, silent, eyes wide and curious.

Surganah’s expression was unreadable. But there was no rage, no storm in his eyes. Instead, there was something she had never seen on his face before: softness.

He came to a stop in front of her and held out the child gently.

“Take him,” he said, his voice low but firm. “He is special.”

Audrey clutched her child to her chest, trembling, but couldn’t look away from Surganah’s eyes.

“I saw things,” he muttered, almost to himself. “Things the world has no name for. The pot is blind to him. It can’t see his fate. Can’t even harm him. But I… I felt it when I held him. Power. Old power. Wild. Untamed.”

Audrey swallowed hard. “What… what does that mean?”
