THE CURSE OF ALTVALL : CHAPTER 71 – THE END

The Fall of the One — The End of the Curse

The air in the chamber was still, too still—as though the room itself was holding its breath.

Jeun stood in the center of the battlefield, blood dripping from his claws, his chest heaving, surrounded by the bodies of the fallen.

His allies lay in silence—heroes sacrificed in the name of freedom. His eyes, glowing with supernatural fury, scanned the doorway, expecting the next wave of enemies.

But what entered was not a beast.
It was a nightmare.

Surganah stepped through the broken chamber doors, dragging Audrey by the hair. Her face was pale, blood staining her lips, and her wrists bound in silver chains.

A sharp blade glinted in Surganah’s hand—its edge pressed against her throat so tightly that even a heartbeat could cut her.
Jeun froze.

“So this is your strength?” Surganah said, voice cold, calm—twisted with a cruelty that chilled the soul.

“You fight your little war. You kill my men. And yet… here she is. Your mother. The woman who made you weak.”

Audrey’s tear-filled eyes met Jeun’s, a silent plea written across her bruised face. She did not need to speak. Jeun already knew—she was ready to die for him.

“Mate with the girl,” Surganah snarled, jerking his head toward the corner of the chamber. The terrified girl, still trembling on the floor, shrunk further away. “Do it. Now. Or she dies.”

Jeun’s heart pounded. His fists clenched at his sides.

“You can’t win this,” Jeun growled. “You never could. You never understood me, or her. You don’t know love.”

Surganah grinned, eyes glinting.

“Love is weakness. Fear is control. And you—you’re just a boy afraid of truth. But this is how you find out. Sleep with her… and the truth will reveal itself.

If you’re mine, you’ll remain powerful. If you’re Gaige’s, well… you’ll become just a boy again.”

Jeun’s soul burned with rage. He had prepared for many scenarios, but not this. Not the cruelty of being forced to choose between power and his mother’s life.

He looked at Audrey—his anchor, his guide. She had been everything to him. She had suffered silently, endured horrors, for him. And now… this demon would use her against him.

“What kind of father does this?” Jeun hissed, trembling with fury. “You were never a father. You’re just a parasite.”

The blade pressed harder into Audrey’s neck. A droplet of blood trickled down.

And that was the moment Jeun made his choice.

With a roar that shook the foundations of the chamber, he charged forward.

“NO MORE!”

The very walls cried out as Jeun moved faster than light, his body ignited in a supernatural flame. Surganah turned in shock, slashing forward—too late.

Jeun reached him—but not before the blade sliced deep across Audrey’s throat.

“MOTHER!” Jeun’s scream was unlike anything human—or even werewolf. It was the cry of a soul breaking in two.

Audrey collapsed into his arms, her life slipping away. Her fingers, weak and trembling, touched his face.

“You… are not him,” she whispered, a final smile on her lips. “You’re better. I always knew…”

And then—nothing. Her hand fell. Her eyes closed. Audrey was gone.
A piece of Jeun died with her.
But another piece ignited.

With the fury of ten storms, Jeun turned to Surganah, now stepping back in horror. For the first time, The One looked afraid.

“You wanted to know whose son I am?” Jeun growled, his voice a rumble from the underworld itself. “I’ll show you.”

He lifted both hands. The runes on his arms lit with ancient fire. With a snarl, he summoned every drop of power left in his body, every ounce of rage, pain, and love—and struck Surganah straight in the chest.
Right at the heart.

There was no scream. No last words.
Only the sound of time breaking.
Surganah’s body exploded with light, as though torn apart by the truth.

His shadow peeled from his flesh. His scream, silent and eternal, echoed across the island in a howl that cracked trees and shattered stone. And then… silence.

The chamber was still again.
Jeun collapsed beside his mother’s body, sobbing not like a warrior, but like a son.
