Maledicta’s gaze narrowed slightly. “What were you supposed to tell me?” she asked instead.
Mistress Morwen’s expression turned somber, and she took a deep breath.
“I’m sorry, darling. You’re not cursed,” she said.
Maledicta’s eyes widened slightly, and she sat up, her gaze fixed intently on her mother.
“What do you mean?” she asked.
Mistress Morwen’s eyes filled with tears again.
“You’re not cursed, Maledicta. You’re a blessing. You were sent to save us from the powerful demon lord Lucan. We didn’t let you know because we killed him a long time ago,” Mistress Morwen explained.
Maledicta’s face turned pale, and she felt like she had been punched in the gut.
“Why are you telling me now?” she asked angrily.
“Because he’s somehow alive, and I think he’s got his powers back. That’s why you were punished with thunder yesterday,” Mistress Morwen said.
Maledicta’s eyes flashed with anger, but she quickly composed herself.
“I don’t care about that now. What about Kaiden? Is he found now?” she asked, her voice laced with worry.
Mistress Morwen’s face turned somber. “We couldn’t find him. I think Lucan must have taken him,” Mistress Morwen said, her voice barely above a whisper.
Just then, the loud murmuring of the students outside distracted them.
“What’s going on?” Mistress Morwen asked, and they both went out curiously.
As they stepped outside, they were greeted by a sea of students, all talking and gesturing wildly.
Lucan’s expression was unreadable as he entered the school, his presence seeming to command attention. Benedicta walked beside him, a triumphant smile spreading across her face.
The students parted, their eyes fixed on Lucan in a mixture of shock and awe. They whispered among themselves, their voices barely audible.
“Is this Kaiden?” someone asked.
“He looks different,” another student replied.
Maledicta stepped forward, her eyes widening as she took in Lucan’s transformed appearance. Her face lit up with a happy smile, and she started running toward him, arms outstretched.
“That is the girl that was said to kill you” Benedicta whisper to Lucan, he watch Maledicta running to him.
But as she was about to hug him, Lucan’s expression changed. His eyes flashed with contempt, and he reached out, grabbing Maledicta’s neck.
His leg left the ground, and he hovered in mid-air, his grip tightening around Maledicta’s throat.
The students gasped in shock, their eyes fixed on the scene unfolding before them.
“Is this weak thing supposed to kill me?” Lucan asked, his voice dripping with disdain. He smirked as he continued to strangle Maledicta.
