THE MISTRESS’ DAUGHTER : CHAPTER 21 – 30

Kaiden turned to face her, a smile spreading across his face as he took in her pale face.

“How are you feeling?” he asked, his eyes locked on hers as he walked closer.

Maledicta didn’t respond, her eyes fixed on Kaiden’s face as if trying to read his thoughts. She was sure she had seen him last night, had felt his warm arms around her as the thunderstorm raged on.

Kaiden’s hand reached out, his fingers brushing against her forehead as if checking for a fever. Maledicta’s eyes fluttered closed, her heart racing at the gentle touch.

“Next time it rains, you should stay indoors,” Kaiden said, his voice soft with concern.

Maledicta’s eyes snapped open, “Staying indoors is nothing,” she snapped. “I’ll still be struck.”

Kaiden’s face fell, his eyes filled with a deep sadness. “I’m sorry,” he said, his voice barely above a whisper. “I didn’t know.”

“It’s not your fault,” she said.

Kaiden took a deep breath, his eyes locked on Maledicta’s.

“I’ll come to your room anytime something like that happens, I will protect you” he said.

“And who are you to make that promise?” she asked blankly.

“I am Someone who owes you,” he said, his voice barely above a whisper.

“You brought me here, that’s all I can do to return the favor” he added.

“So you don’t want to know why I brought you here anymore?” she asked. She couldn’t believe she was actually having conversation with him.

“I don’t care anymore, I love it here.” He said.

“Good for you,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

She turned and opened her door, a clear dismissal. Kaiden nodded, his face falling.

“Take care of yourself,” he said, his voice soft, before turning and running off down the corridor.

Maledicta watched him go, a small smile playing on her lips. She felt a strange sense of warmth in her chest, a feeling she couldn’t quite explain.

As she turned to go back into her room, she caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror. Her eyes were shining, her face flushed with a soft pink glow.

Maledicta’s eyes narrowed, her expression skeptical. What was happening to her?.

Aka stepped out of the Mistress’s office, Benedicta by her side. The warm sunlight cast a golden glow over the school’s courtyard, and the sound of laughter and chatter filled the air.

“Why are you just coming to school?” Benedicta asked, a smile playing on her lips. “Others resumed a week ago.”

Aka shrugged, “I traveled. I just returned home, and I hope I’m not too late.” She said.

Benedicta’s smile widened. “You’re not. You’re going to enjoy this school.”

Aka grinned, her eyes gleaming with mischief. “I know that. It’s going to be fun.”

As they walked through the courtyard, Benedicta pointed out various landmarks and buildings. Aka listened intently, her eyes drinking in every detail.
