Belladonna’s eyes flashed with anger. “I didn’t ask for your help,” she snapped. “Drop me this instant.”
Thane sighed, his expression softening. “Stop being stubborn and just accept it.”
But Belladonna was beyond reason. She struggled and kicked, trying to get out of Thane’s grasp. But he held her firmly, his arms like steel bands around her.
Finally, Belladonna’s strength gave out, and she slumped against Thane’s chest, tears streaming down her face. Thane held her close, his arms wrapping around her like a warm blanket.

Maledicta suddenly appeared behind a tree, her eyes fixed on Kaiden as he played with a group of boys. They were playing a game that looked like a mix of soccer and rugby, and Kaiden was struggling to keep up.
The voice in her head had told her to come here, and she had obeyed without question. Now, as she watched Kaiden stumble and fall, she felt a pang of… something. She wasn’t sure what it was, but it felt almost like concern.
One of the opposing team members sneered at Kaiden. “If you all want to have fun in this game, he should be gone.”
“We are having fun, just try and win.”Ryder scoffed.
Kaiden looked embarrassed, but he spoke up. “I could leave, I know I’m holding you guys down.”
Ryder clapped him on the back. “Don’t, this game is just to have fun, okay?”
But just as it seemed like Kaiden was going to give up, he suddenly started playing with a newfound energy. He dodged and weaved around the other players, his movements swift and agile.
The other players were shocked as Kaiden scored goal after goal, leading his team to victory.
“How did you do it?” Ryder asked, grinning at Kaiden in amazement.
Kaiden shrugged, looking just as surprised. “I don’t know too.”
Maledicta watched from behind the tree, a small smile playing on her lips. She had been the one to help Kaiden win, using her powers to guide him and give him an edge.
But as she watched Kaiden’s team carry him on their shoulders in celebration, her smile faltered. She realized that her powers had worked on Kaiden, even though they hadn’t worked on him just a week ago.
She didn’t understand why her powers were so unpredictable, or why they seemed to work on Kaiden now when they hadn’t before.
Just as she was lost in thought, a voice snapped her out of it. “Hey.”
Maledicta turned to see Aka standing behind her, a bright smile on her face.
“What?” Maledicta demanded, her voice cold.
Aka’s smile faltered for a moment, but she recovered quickly.
“I’ve noticed you’re always alone, same with me too. We could become friends.” She said.
Maledicta raised an eyebrow. “Why would I want to be friends with you?”
Aka shrugged. “I don’t know, I just thought it would be nice to have someone to talk to. And I could teach you a lot of things.” She said.
“I don’t need your help.” Maledicta snorted and started leaving, Aka followed her immediately.
Aka’s smile never wavered. “Come on, I really want us to…”
But Maledicta cut her off, her voice cold and deadly. “Don’t follow me.”
