THE MISTRESS’ DAUGHTER : CHAPTER 31 – 40
Thane walked over to help his brother, Thane was born four months after Cassius, a surprise to their family, and as a result, Cassius was the older brother and the Alpha prince.
He would inherit the title of Alpha after their father, and Thane had always looked up to him with a mix of admiration and reverence.
“Brother, don’t you think you’re being unfair to Bella?” Thane suddenly asked.
Cassius’s expression darkened, and he frowned deeply. “What are you talking about?” he growled.
“I saw what happen between you both yesterday, You should treat her with more love and respect. You two will be getting married soon.” He said.
“We’re not getting married,” he said, his voice dripping with disdain.
“I’m going to tell Mum and Dad to cancel the marriage. I’m not interested.”he scoffed.
Thane’s eyes widened in shock, and he felt a surge of anger towards his brother. “But she’s your mate!” he exclaimed. “What are you thinking?”
Cassius shrugged, his expression unyielding. “If you care so much about her, you can just marry her instead,” he said, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
“You haven’t found your mate yet, right? You can just pray to the Moon Goddess, who knows, she might give her to you.” He said.
Thane felt a sting from his brother’s words, but he tried to keep his cool.
Cassius picked up his bag and walked out of the room, leaving Thane to follow him. They walked to the palanquin in silence.
As they approached the palanquin, Cassius dropped his bag inside and took off running, disappearing into the forest. Thane sighed and sat down in the palanquin, his heart heavy with worry.
Meanwhile, Cassius ran through the forest, his feet pounding against the earth. He finally arrived at a clearing and smiled when he saw Maledicta sitting on a rock, her eyes fixed on the ground.
“I knew you’d be here,” he said, sitting down beside her. But Maledicta didn’t even spare him a glance.
Cassius didn’t seem to mind, though. He leaned back on his elbows and watched her, a small smile playing on his lips.
“I’m going to town now, for the celebration,” he said gently.
Maledicta finally looked up at him, her eyes narrowing. “Why are you telling me?” she asked coldly.
Cassius shrugged, his smile growing wider. “I could help you lift your curse,” he said.
“All you have to do is agree to marry me. I’ll pray to the Goddess, and she’ll grant my wish as the future Alpha.” He said.
Maledicta raised an eyebrow, her expression skeptical. “And why would I do that?” she asked, her voice dripping with disdain.
“You can send me a letter when you’re ready,” he said, standing up. “I’ll be on my way.”
And with that, he took off running, leaving Maledicta to watch him go.
“Stupid,” she muttered to herself.
