THE MISTRESS’ DAUGHTER : CHAPTER 51 – 60

Aka pushed open the massive wooden doors and stepped into the huge library. The room was filled with rows upon rows of towering bookshelves, each one packed tightly with leather-bound tomes. The air was thick with the musty scent of old books and the flickering light of candles cast eerie shadows on the walls.

Aka’s eyes scanned the room, searching for a familiar face. She spotted Ryder sitting at a table near the back of the room, his nose buried in a thick book. She made her way over to him, her footsteps echoing off the stone floor.

“Hey,” she said, dropping into the chair beside him.

Ryder looked up, a smile spreading across his face. “I didn’t know you were interested in reading,” he said, closing his book.

Aka shook her head. “I’m not, really. I’m just curious about something, and I was hoping you could help me out.” She said.

Ryder’s eyes lit up with interest. “Sure, I’ll do my best. I know all the history in Nightshade, so you’ve come to the right person.” He said.

Aka leaned in, her voice dropping to a whisper. “Can you tell me about how Maledicta was cursed?” She asked.

Ryder’s expression turned serious, and he glanced around the room to make sure no one was listening.

“Well, I don’t know much about it, but I’ve heard it was because of her father. He’s a demon.” He said.

Aka’s eyes widened in shock. “Her father is a demon?” She asked.

Ryder nodded, his voice barely above a whisper. “Yeah, I’ve heard he was cursed by the goddess because of what he did, after he died. The curse was passed down to one of his daughters after they were born. And the unlucky one was Maledicta.” He said.

Aka’s eyes were wide with fascination. “What happened?”

Ryder leaned in closer, his voice dropping to a whisper. “I’ve heard the town suffered when she was born. Things went back to normal when her sister was born an hour later. And then Maledicta was sent out of the town.”

“That’s so sad.” AKa said while making a sad face.

Ryder nodded. “Yeah, it’s a pretty tragic story.”

Aka’s eyes narrowed. “Her father, what did he do?”

Ryder shook his head. “I don’t know. We weren’t told.” He said.

“You must know about Lucan too.”Aka said.

Ryder’s eyes widened in surprise. “How did you know about the demon lord?” He asked.

Aka smiled mischievously. “I overheard some people talking about it, and I was just curious.” She said.

Ryder’s expression turned serious. “I don’t know much about him, but I know he’s bad news. He’ll bring destruction to the world. Maledicta and Lucan are two powerful people.”Ryder said.

Aka nodded thoughtfully. “It’s nice talking to you. We should do that more often.”

Ryder smiled, and Aka got up to leave. As she walked out of the library, Ryder went back to reading his book.

But he didn’t get to read for long. A figure appeared before him, and he looked up to see a strange girl. She had a shy smile on her face, and butterflies seemed to be flying around her head.

“Can I sit beside you?” she asked while staring at his face.

Ryder raised an eyebrow but nodded curtly. “Sure.”

The girl sat down, her eyes fixed on him. “I’m Arachne. We’re both juniors.” She said.

“Okay” Ryder muttered, not looking up from his book.
