THE MISTRESS’ DAUGHTER : CHAPTER 71 – 80

Aka was startled when she saw him, and she quickly turned around to check if Benedicta was watching. Kaiden raised an eyebrow, confused.

“What are you looking for?” he asked.

Aka’s expression turned cold. “Stay away from me.” She snapped and started leaving.

Kaiden’s eyes widened in surprise. “Huh? Why?” He asked.

But Aka was already gone, disappearing around the corner. Kaiden stood there, feeling bewildered.

“Wow, did that just happen?” he asked himself, shaking his head. He couldn’t understand why Aka was suddenly acting strange around him.He shrugged it off and continued on his way.

The air at the school was filled with giggling and tears as the students received letters written to them by their parents and loved ones. The atmosphere was bittersweet, with some students beaming with joy while others looked crestfallen.

Thane sat at a corner in the library, the only student there. He wasn’t reading or studying; he just sat there, staring blankly into space. His eyes looked empty, his face a mask of sadness.

“Why are you here?”Lilith’s voice broke the silence.

Thane didn’t look up, his voice barely above a whisper. “I should be the one asking you that, because this was supposed to be my comfort zone.” He said.

Lilith walked closer, her eyes fixed on Thane’s slumped figure. “It was my comfort zone too.” She said.

Thane finally looked up, his eyes meeting Lilith’s. “We can’t help running into each other, can we? Just sit down too, don’t let us disturb one another” he muttered, a hint of resignation in his voice.

Lilith’s expression softened, her voice taking on a gentle tone. “What’s wrong with you? Why are you so down?” She asked.

Thane’s gaze dropped, and he opened the letter in his hand. His eyes scanned the pages, his face twisting in pain.

“For once, I was expecting something different, but nothing’s changed,” he said, his voice cracking.

“All they ask about in this letter is my brother. They didn’t even care how I’m faring. They asked me to take care of him, but he’s the one who’s supposed to take care of me since he’s the older one.” Thane said sadly.

Thane’s voice broke, and he struggled to hold back tears. “Am I not their son too? Why are they hurting me so much? They didn’t even care about me.it wasn’t my fault I came at the wrong time, i tried to ignore it but it hurt so much” he said.

Lilith’s eyes filled with compassion, and she sat down beside Thane.

“I can understand,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

“I didn’t receive any letter from my parents either. They hate me; they blame me for my older sister’s death.” She added sadly.

Thane’s eyes met Lilith’s, and they shared a moment before looking away.

“We’re just losers,” Thane said, a bitter smile twisting his lips.

“We’re not losers. They just don’t know our worth.”Lilith said seriously.

Thane’s smile faltered, and he looked away, his eyes welling up with tears.

“We have so much in common,” he said, his voice barely audible.

Lilith nodded, her eyes shining with tears. “Yeah, totally.”

They both laughed sadly, the sound echoing through the empty library.

“Can they ever know our worth, can they understand us?” Thane asked.

“I don’t know, time will tell” Lilith said and they both went silent.
