Chapter 9
—TYLER—
I walked in fully into thoom and strained my ears to pick any sound at all.
I heard sobs coming softly from the bathroom.
“Allison please I’m sorry, I know I have no excuse but I’m really sorry” I stood at front of the door.
“Go away, I don’t want to see you nor hear your voice. Leave me alone”
I sighed heavily and left the room.
I went back to the living room and answered the still ringing bell.
“Don’t worry you can go back, I’ll call you later when I need you”
“Oh okay” The doctor looked confused and turned to go.
I watched him go and sank into a sofa.
We have exactly two weeks and three days to leave each other if we want to. It would be six months then.
If we going to separate, we have to settle things.
“What do I do?”
“First I need to change every thing in that damn room so it won’t bring back memories including the bed”
I went back to the room and took my phone to start placing orders.
—ALLISON—
I heard him shouting name and thanked God the room wasn’t sound proofed.
I stood up and walked painfully to bathroom.
I haven’t eaten nor taken a bath. My body is smelling but I don’t care.
I heard him knock on the door ” Allison, I brought a doctor please let him attend to you”
I locked the bathroom because I knew sooner or later, he’ll open the door.
He must have opened it because I heard footsteps in the room.
Just the sound of his voice brought back memories
I choked back a sob and clamped my hands over my mouth.
I want to stop crying, why don’t I have control over my tears.
“Allison I’m sorry I know I have no excuse but I’m sorry” he said through the door
” Go away, I don’t want to see you nor hear your voice”
” I hate you” I added silently.
It’s funny though, I’m trying to hate him but it’s not working and it’s making matters worse for me.
Have I lost how to feel?
I don’t even love neither do I like him but I don’t hate him.
Maybe because I haven’t hated anyone in my life that’s why I’m finding this hard or perhaps I hate him already unknown to me.
I heard his retreating footsteps and the door closing. It’s a good thing he left me.
It’s a good thing he left quietly.
When I was sure he wasn’t in the room, I came out and went to lock the door leaving the key in the keyhole this time.
As I went back to bed a thought came to my mind.
If I don’t talk to someone soon or find a way out of this mess very soon, I’m going to fall into depression. I can feel it.
I laid on the bed looking at the ceiling, even if I call anyone, I can’t bring myself to say I was rapped.
A married woman was rapped by her husband.
Very difficult to believe.
TWO WEEKS LATER,
—TYLER—
It’s being two weeks now since the incident. I haven’t seen Allison.
Thank God I stock fruits in every room inside the refrigerator. I’m sure that’s what she might feeding on.
Every day, I visit the door just to hear her voice.
Her sobbing has reduced but she’s unnaturally quiet, too quiet.
Every time I knock and she says “go away” it’s gives me the assurance that she’s okay.
Today I’m going to open the door whether she likes it or not.
I need to see her, I know I have no explanation to give but I miss her.
I already changed everything in the room, nothing would bring back memories, the only thing left to change is her thoughts of me to good ones.
I’m going to do whatever it takes to change it, the memory of that night needs to be changed.
I want to see her smile and laugh back
This past weeks has been unexplainable for me.
I wake up every morning and turn to my side expecting to see her sleeping or to see her standing before me asking me to take my bath and get ready for work.
Sometimes I go downstairs to the kitchen expecting to meet food on the kitchen table waiting for it to be ate.
The house is too quiet, even when I was living alone, it wasn’t as quiet as this.
Matters gone worst, the dog barks angrily whenever I give it food like it knew what happened.
I’m it’s owner and it felt no obligation to me, He gave its obligation and loyalty to Allison instead.
For the first two days, the dog didn’t eat the food I brought.
I always find it whimpering but once it set his eyes in me, he barks angrily.
Soon it began eating once every two days and it never stopped barking at me.
The dog misses her too.
I’m going to do whatever it takes to see her.
At times I do hallucinate and see her moving around the house happily and once I blink, the image is gone
I just want her back, I want Allison back even if it’s the crazy one, I don’t mind.
Seeing her and having the reassurance she’s here is enough for me.
The house feels dead to me
My phone rang jolting me out of my thoughts.
My detective called.
I had called him three weeks ago to find out what happened and why my name is suddenly on every headlines with praises.
I had forgotten about him.
I answered on the last ring
? “Hello” I said coolly into the phone
? “Do you mind trading places with me or trading wives?” I heard him smile over the phone
? ” What do you mean?” My voice took on a dangerous note
? “I love your wife, she’s what I can call a perfection” he said
?” Helllooooo, you’re talking to Tyler Stones” I reminded him in case he mistook me for someone else
? “I know” he laughed “your wife is a role model to others. Her name is being plastered everywhere especially with her speech”
?” What speech?” I asked confusedly ” and what about what I asked you to look into”
? “You’re not going to believe what I found”
?” What’s it?” I asked
? ” Everything has been your wife’s doing. She has been doing it all in your name. No woman would want to do that, instead she’ll want the fame for herself. My wife already took her as a role model.”
? ” What?! ” I asked in shock
? ” You’re shocked right? Wait till you hear her speech in the last function you both went to. Even radios replay her speech”
?” What speech?”
? “I’ll send it to you right now when I hang up, please don’t stop loving your wife. She’s truly one in a million and the best one could ever ask for. It’ll be bad if you make her cry. She’s precious.” He hung up leaving me in shock.
My phone beeped immediately and I opened the audio he sent.
I dropped my phone in shock
I have to make things right, I can’t wait any longer.
“Allison please open the door” I knocked and paused for her usual response.
“Allison” I knocked again when I didn’t get any response.
I pressed my ears on the door to listen. I didn’t pick up any sound.
Her heart suddenly start beating fast.
“Allison!!” I shouted and continued hitting the door
Seeing I wasn’t going to get a response, I ran to the kitchen to pick some tools.
I’m very good at picking locks so picking this wouldn’t be difficult.
I came back and tried picking the lock but it was difficult because my hands was shaking.
I tried the second time, my hands were still shaking.
I took a deep breath and tried again.
The door opened and the sight before me is an image that’s going to be engraved in my memory for a very long time reminding me on the mistake I made.
Allison was in the pool of her own blood, her body filled with wounds.
She is very thin and pale.
“Allison!!!” I screamed and rushed to her side.
Now it’s my turn to cry……
