THE MISTRESS’ DAUGHTER : CHAPTER 41 – 50

BY KATHY D.

(I MISS YOU)

Kaiden smiled as he watched Maledicta pout, her lip jutting out in a cute expression. He was about to kiss her, but she had suddenly pulled away, leaving him feeling surprised and confused.

“We can’t be doing this,” she said, moving to sit on her bed. Kaiden kept looking at her, trying to understand why she had pushed him away.

“I’m sure your friend is waiting,Aren’t you going anymore?” She said after sometime.

“Should I stay, then?” Kaiden asked, trying to sound casual.

Maledicta’s expression turned cold. “Don’t. You’ll regret it.” She said.

“Come with me, then,We’ll figure something out. No one will find out.” He said.

Maledicta shook her head, “Don’t worry about me. Just have fun. I’m okay staying in the school.”
He nodded, trying to look understanding, and turned to leave.

Kaiden made his way to the palanquin, where Ryder was already waiting for him.

“Where did you go?” Ryder asked, looking at Kaiden with curiosity.

Kaiden shrugged, “Just somewhere. Don’t ask.”

Ryder raised an eyebrow, but he didn’t push the issue. “Okay… but are you seeing someone?” he asked.

Kaiden groaned, feeling his face heat up. “I told you, no questions.”

Ryder laughed, holding up his hands in surrender. “Okay, okay. I won’t ask you anymore.”

As the palanquin started moving, Kaiden couldn’t help but feel a sense of excitement. He had never been in a palanquin before, and he was looking forward to seeing the town.

“This thing is amazing, isn’t it?” he asked, gesturing to the palanquin.

Kaiden nodded, his eyes wide with wonder. “Yeah, it’s incredible. I’ve never seen anything like it.”

Ryder chuckled, looking pleased with himself. “Yeah, it’s one of a kind. Only my family owns one like it in the whole town.”

Kaiden’s eyes widened in surprise. “Your father must be rich, then.”

Ryder shrugged, looking nonchalant. “I could say that.”

As they rode in silence for a moment, Ryder suddenly pulled out a small, golden pill.

“What’s that?” Kaiden asked, his curiosity piqued.

Ryder handed him the pill. “Mistress Morwen told me to give it to you. It’ll make you look like one of us for a few days.”

Kaiden’s eyes widened in surprise. “Why do I need to take that?” He asked while pointing at the pill.

“Because our people can’t know you’re human. It’s not safe.” Ryder said.

As he took the pill,he turned to Ryder, his eyes curious.

“Why do your people hate humans so much?” he asked.

“Humans are betrayers,”Ryder said.

“We lived together with humans thousands of years ago,” he began.

“We made them our kings, trusted them with our secrets and our lives. But they betrayed that trust, forming an army to destroy us. They enslaved us, killed our children… We will never forgive them for that.” Ryder said.

Kaiden’s eyes widened in shock, finally understanding the depth of hatred he had encountered when he first arrived.

“I’m sorry,I didn’t know about that.” Kaiden said gently.
