A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL : CHAPTER 101 – 110
LIAM’S END.
LUCIFER FROWN.
I stood at the threshold, a quiet storm brewing inside me. I could feel the rage simmering beneath my skin, each breath I took feeding it. Selene had moved around without my permission, putting herself at risk.
And this “friend” of hers, this pathetic fool, thought he could bring his little games into *my* mansion.
“Selene.” I didn’t bother softening my tone or disguising my anger. Instead, I extended my hand, grabbing hers firmly, and pulled her toward me.
She looked at me with a mixture of relief and relaxation, as if my presence alone made everything right. But my patience had worn thin.
“Your friend is starting to get on my nerves,” I told her, my gaze cutting toward the nuisance beside her.
“My friend?” she echoed, glancing over at the so-called friend in question. Her eyes, wide and hesitant, moved slowly back to me. “I don’t think he’s my friend,” she muttered, her voice tinged with uncertainty.
I narrowed my gaze, studying her closely. Fear lingered in her eyes, though she tried to mask it. Perhaps she understood, on some level, that her actions were foolish—that this was not the place for her trivial ties.
But part of me, dark and unyielding, suspected she didn’t grasp the severity of her mistake.
“Get away from her!” The pathetic creature tried to growl, stepping closer as if he could possibly intimidate me.
Snapping my fingers, I stripped him of his animal disguise, forcing him back to his original form in an instant.
I watched, satisfaction unfurling within me, as his true appearance took hold. The startled glances he cast Selene confirmed he hadn’t wanted her to see him like this.
Selene hesitated, then took a cautious step toward me, her eyes flickering with unspoken questions and lingering confusion.
I watch them closely
Selene’s face softened as she looked up at Liam, her hands lingering on his shoulders. “Liam, you’re all right?,” she whispered, her voice shaky yet filled with relief. She squeezed his arms as if to reassure herself he was truly there, alive and safe.
Liam chuckled softly, brushing a loose strand of hair from her face. “You don’t have to apologize, Selene. I just… I was scared something had happened to you. So I had to come”
Her brow furrowed as her hands slid down his arms, fingers tracing over his hands. “You shouldn’t have come here, Liam. This place, you shouldn’t have done that…” She glanced around, the briefest flicker of uncertainty crossing her face. “It’s not safe. You would have been that thing for life”
“And what, leave you here alone?” he replied, a gentle defiance in his tone. He shook his head, a slight smirk playing on his lips, trying to bring some levity to the moment. “You know I couldn’t do that, Selene. I’d go anywhere for you.”
She let out a breath, half-laugh, half-sigh, and shook her head in disbelief. “Always the hero,” she murmured, her voice barely audible.
Her fingers tightened over his as she added, “You don’t know what you’re getting yourself into. This… this world is so different from what we know.”
His gaze softened as he held her hands firmly. “I don’t care about any of that, Selene. I’m here because you’re here.
Whatever this place is, whatever these people are—” his voice dipped, taking on a fierce determination “—they don’t matter. You do.”
Selene’s lip trembled as she fought to hold back tears. She glanced away briefly, but he gently turned her face back to his, his thumb brushing her cheek. “You’re not alone,” he whispered, his voice laced with a quiet strength. “You don’t have to be afraid.”
She nodded, letting her head rest on his shoulder, a long breath leaving her as if she was surrendering to the warmth of his reassurance.
They stood in that embrace, quiet but bound by something unspoken, something neither of them could put into words.
“Selene,” he began, voice trembling with some pitiful attempt at emotion. “You don’t belong here. This—” he waved a hand toward me, “this creature is not your friend.”
