A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL : CHAPTER 101 – 110
Selene looked back at me, doubt flickering in her eyes. She seemed torn, trapped between what she thought she knew and what she could no longer deny.
She bit her lip, shifting slightly in his hold, and his grip on her tightened.
I watch them closely, my expression blank but that slowly change, smile creep into my mouth as I watch.
Selene’s cries filled the room, raw and desperate, cutting through the silence like the edge of a blade.
I stood back, watching, my eyes fixed on the steady stream of blood trickling from Liam’s nose, eyes and mouth….a small, almost inconsequential thing at first.
But as seconds passed, his breaths grew shallow, his face paling as he clung to her, his strength slipping away with every exhale.
The sight brought a faint smile to my lips. I didn’t try to hide it—why should I? He was nothing but an irritant, a stubborn pest who had dared to believe he could defy me. And now, he was paying the price for it, slowly, painfully, right in front of her.
Selene’s hands pressed against Liam’s face, frantic as her fingers brushed over his blood-streaked skin. “Liam,” she whispered, her voice breaking. “Stay with me, please. You’re going to be fine. You’ll be okay…”
But her words were hollow, her hope misplaced. She had no idea what was happening, no understanding of the finality that was slowly wrapping its cold fingers around him.
Her pleas, her desperation, meant nothing. This was inevitable. This was the consequence of his foolishness.
I didn’t move. I merely observed, my arms crossed over my chest as I leaned against the doorframe, letting the scene unfold.
It was almost beautiful in its simplicity—the slow descent, the gradual weakening, the way his life drained from him, leaving only the hollow shell of defiance he’d worn so proudly.
“Lucifer!” she screamed, snapping her head toward me. Her eyes were wild, frantic with a mixture of fear and fury. “Help him! Please… do something!”
Her desperation washed over me, but I didn’t let it sink in. Instead, I remained rooted, watching her crumble as she clutched at him, her knuckles whitening as she tried to keep him close, to keep him here.
As if her touch alone could anchor him to this world. But even she had to know, deep down, that it was futile. Nothing could undo what had been set in motion.
“Please, Lucifer!” she cried again, her voice cracking as she looked at me, her eyes pleading. “Don’t let him die… you can save him. I know you can.”
I tilted my head slightly, considering her words, or rather, the naïveté behind them. Yes, I could save him. I could stop his suffering, mend the torn thread of his life with a snap of my fingers. But why would I? Why should I?
This was his end, a fate he’d invited upon himself by daring to touch what was mine, by believing he could stand before me as anything but dust beneath my feet.
“Selene…” I murmured, my voice calm, even gentle as I addressed her. But I made no move to help, no motion to ease her suffering.
I let her hope crumble slowly, methodically, feeding off the desperation in her gaze as she clung to the idea that somehow, against all odds, I might step in.
Liam’s breaths were shallow now, labored, each one weaker than the last. His fingers trembled as he tried to hold on to her, his body convulsing as the life seeped from him in slow, agonizing waves.
His eyes met mine briefly, and I saw the fear there, the realization that this was truly the end. And it only made my smile widen.
“You… you’re really the devil” he rasped, his voice barely a whisper as he clung to her, his words were the absolute truth, one that only made my amusement grow.
