A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL : CHAPTER 161 – 170

Gabriel’s eyes flicked back to mine, searching for any sign of deception. “And if you’re lying?”

“Then you’ll have the satisfaction of smiting me where I stand,” I said with a grin. “But I think you’ll find that I’m telling the truth.”

There was another long pause, the tension between us thick enough to cut with a knife.

“Fine,” Gabriel said at last, his voice reluctant but resolute. “But if you betray me—”

“I won’t,” I interrupted, raising my glass in a mock toast. “To unlikely alliances, then.”

Gabriel didn’t join in the gesture, but he didn’t stop me either.

As I took a long sip from my glass, I couldn’t help but feel a flicker of satisfaction. The pieces were falling into place, and if all went according to plan, Lucifer’s will be in his rightful place

Hell.

But as I glanced at Gabriel, his expression still guarded, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was playing a dangerous game—one that could very well consume me.

IN LUCIEN’S ARMS

SELENE SMILED.

Warmth surrounded me as I stirred awake, the soft glow of morning light spilling through the heavy velvet curtains. My eyes fluttered open, and I found myself staring at Lucifer’s sleeping face.

He lay beside me, one arm casually draped over his chest, the other resting on the pillow. For a moment, I forgot who he was—what he was—and simply admired the perfection of his features.

His face was serene, the sharp planes of his jawline softened in slumber. Dark lashes rested against his pale skin, and the faintest shadow of a smirk tugged at his lips, as if even in sleep he was planning something mischievous.

He looked… human. Peaceful.

I almost reached out to touch him, to see if his skin was as warm as it looked, but I stopped myself. I had no idea why I was this drawn to him, why I feel so safe in his presence.

Shaking off the thought, I slipped out of the bed as quietly as I could.

The last thing I needed was for him to wake up and catch me staring like some love-struck fool. Grabbing a towel from the chair near the wardrobe, I headed to the adjoining bathroom.

The water was hot, nearly scalding, as I let it cascade over me, washing away the haze of sleep and the lingering confusion that seemed to accompany every interaction with Lucifer.

My mind wandered to the day before, to the way his eyes had burned with something unspoken as he’d watched me. I could still feel the weight of his gaze, like it had etched itself into my skin.

When I finished, I dressed quickly—a simple blouse and jeans—and pulled my damp hair into a loose braid.

I had no intention of lingering in his room longer than necessary. There was something stifling about being surrounded by his presence, even when he wasn’t awake.

As I stepped into the hallway, the air felt heavier, as though the mansion itself was waiting for something to happen.

The corridors stretched on endlessly, and the faint hum of magic seemed to pulse through the walls. It wasn’t the first time I’d felt it, but today, it felt… stronger.

I wandered aimlessly at first, my footsteps echoing on the marble floors. The mansion was massive, a labyrinth of rooms and secrets. It was easy to lose track of time here, to forget the outside world even existed. But something tugged at me, a pull I couldn’t quite explain, leading me deeper into the mansion than I’d ever dared to go.

I wasn’t sure what I was looking for—answers, perhaps. Or maybe just a way to understand the man who seemed to hold my fate in his hands.

Eventually, I found myself standing before a door I’d never noticed before. It was unremarkable, blending seamlessly with the wall, but something about it drew me in. My fingers hovered over the handle, hesitation creeping in.

What if this was a mistake?

What if whatever was behind this door was meant to stay hidden?

But the pull was too strong to ignore. I turned the handle, and the door creaked open.
