A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL : CHAPTER 51 – 60
LUCIFER ANGER 2
SELENE GASPED.
Liam’s grip on my hand tightened even more, and he stepped closer, his body shielding me from Lucifer as much as he could. “She’s not going anywhere with you,” Liam said, his tone hard, but there was uncertainty beneath it.
Lucifer’s smile widened ever so slightly, a serene, almost amused expression on his face. He took a single step forward, his movements graceful and precise. “Liam, was it?” he said calmly. “I’m not here to cause a scene. I simply came to take Selene home.”
Liam straightened, his stance firm, but I could feel his tension. “She doesn’t need you to take her anywhere.”
Lucifer’s eyes darkened, though his voice remained as smooth and steady as ever. “I don’t believe this is a discussion for you to have.” His gaze shifted back to me, calm yet filled with an unspoken promise. “Selene knows where she belongs.”
My heart pounded in my chest, but I couldn’t look away. There was no malice in his words, no threats. Just a quiet confidence that made me feel like I was standing on the edge of something I couldn’t control. His calm demeanor, the way he spoke as though everything was already decided, left no room for argument.
“Liam…” I whispered, my voice barely audible, torn between the safety of his presence and the undeniable pull Lucifer had over me.
Liam looked at me, concern etched across his face. “Selene, you don’t have to go with him.”
But Lucifer’s voice cut through the air like silk, calm and certain. “I’m not asking, darling.”
Before I could say anything, I look them both and move back indoors, I can’t stay here, Liam won’t be safe but before leaving, I need my bag, picking up my bag, I pull out my clothes, put them back on, place the stun gun in my pocket and then run downstairs.
The moment Lucifer saw me, he reached out his hand, palm up, waiting.
There was no demand in his gesture, only an expectation, like he knew I would take it. I hesitated, my mind racing, but deep down, I knew there was no escaping this. Not now.
Liam shake his head, holding my hand once more ” stay with me”
” I can’t ”
Reluctantly, I pulled my hand from Liam’s and placed it in Lucifer’s. His fingers closed gently around mine, and a shiver ran through me—not from fear, but from the strange sense of inevitability that surrounded him. His grip was firm yet careful, as though he was holding something fragile.
“I’ll be taking her now,” Lucifer said softly, his voice as calm as ever. He gave Liam a final, almost dismissive glance before turning to leave, his hold on me never wavering.
As we stepped into the night, the air was cool, crisp, and unnervingly still. His car—a sleek, black limo—waited by the curb like a shadow waiting to swallow me whole.
I shot one last glance at Liam, who stood frozen near the door, worry etched across his face. I forced a smile, trying to reassure him, though I wasn’t sure if it was for his benefit or mine.
Lucifer opened the door, gesturing for me to get inside. I hesitated for a split second but climbed in. The leather seats were soft, swallowing me in luxury I’d never known.
As I sat, Lucien turned around from the driver’s seat, his black eyes burning into mine with a glare so sharp I flinched. He said nothing, but his expression spoke volumes. He was angry, and I knew why.
I lowered my gaze, feeling his silent judgment heavy on my chest. My fingers brushed the edge of the stun gun in my pocket, gripping it tight. Was I really going to try this?
“Don’t tell me you want to try that on me,” Lucifer’s voice hummed, low and calm.
I lifted my head, startled. He was watching me. His gaze, intense and knowing, held mine. I swallowed hard.
“The stun gun,” he clarified, his lips curling slightly, as if amused.
My breath caught in my throat. How did he know? “Oh no, I wouldn’t dare,” I lied, trying to sound casual, though my voice wavered.
He smiled—a small, almost gentle smile that made my heart skip a beat. “It won’t work, Selene. You can try it, if you’d like. To ease your doubt.”
My fingers trembled, and I quickly withdrew my hand from my pocket to rest on my thigh. “I don’t want to hurt you,” I whispered, the lie thick on my tongue.
His smile didn’t falter. “I know that’s not true.” His words were soft, but they held weight. He wasn’t fooled, not by me, not by anyone.
The car ride fell into a heavy silence. I leaned back against the seat, my thoughts racing, my heart drumming against my chest. I glanced over at him, just for a second. His eyes were closed, his breathing even, like he didn’t have a care in the world. How could he be so calm? So… collected? Everything about him was a contradiction, a puzzle I wasn’t sure I’d ever solve.
I stared out the window, watching the city blur by, my mind spinning with questions I dared not ask. What was I really getting myself into? And why, despite every instinct telling me to run, did I feel an odd sense of calm sitting beside him?
