A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL : CHAPTER 61 – 70

When I left, my steps felt heavy. Liam’s kindness made it all the harder to leave him behind, but I had no choice. I couldn’t drag him into this nightmare.

At work, Mrs. Richardson took one look at me and shook her head. “Go home, Selene,” she said, her voice firm but kind. “You need to rest for a few days.”

I didn’t argue. She was right, but I wasn’t going home. Instead, I made my way toward the mansion, my steps slowing the closer I got. The towering gates loomed ahead, casting long shadows across the ground.

This was it. I couldn’t keep acting like an easy target. I would behave like nothing happened, like I didn’t see Lucifer in my dreams.

I would behave normal. But someone like Lucifer will hate anything out of the usual, if am to act clingy and lovely with him… Am sure it will pissed him off… Not immediately but he might eventually let me go.

Will that work? Should I do that I stead? Tell him nice words, hug him? Will he hate it? If he sees he can’t know my next move, that will be abnormal for him and he will send me away.

Right?

I pushed the gates open, my hands trembling slightly as I stepped inside. The mansion stood as imposing as ever, its walls hiding secrets I wasn’t sure I wanted to uncover.

Each step toward the entrance felt like I was walking into the mouth of a beast. I reached for the door, taking one last deep breath before stepping inside.

And there he was.

Lucifer sat on the couch, his fingers tapping the armrest slowly. His entire posture screamed tension, his mood so dark it practically choked the air in the room.

My heart skipped a beat. I couldn’t read his expression, but his gaze…it was sharp, cutting right through me. He was angry, and I couldn’t help but wonder if it was because of me.

I stood frozen for a moment, unsure of what to say, unsure of how to break the silence that hung so thickly between us. His eyes locked onto mine, and I swallowed hard, my palms growing sweaty. Why wasn’t he smiling? He usually smiled.

LUCIFER FROWN.

I sat in the living room, my fingers tapping the couch slowly, each tap echoing in the silence. My mood had shifted completely, and both Lucien and Mirabel knew not to push me at times like this. They were smart enough to stay away, but Lucien was still hovering nearby.

*How could she let that bastard kiss her?*

I couldn’t think of any reason why she would let him touch her. She belonged to me, body and soul. Her entire existence was meant to be mine, and mine alone. The thought of his hands on her… it was infuriating.

“Lucifer?” Lucien’s voice pulled me from my thoughts. He moved cautiously closer, his eyes scanning my face. “You seem angry.”

“Indeed.” The word slipped out coldly.

“Could it be Selene?” he asked, his voice lowering.

My gaze shifted to Lucien, narrowing slightly. “Do you have any idea why she hasn’t come here? Why would she prefer to stay with that bastard, knowing I could kill him if I wished to?”

Lucien frowned, his brows furrowing. “You said it yourself—she doesn’t believe you’re the devil. She’s not afraid of you.”

His words struck a nerve. Fear… fear was essential, but it wasn’t what I wanted from her. It wasn’t what I wanted her to feel toward me. Before I could respond, the door creaked open, and I looked up.

There she was.

Selene stood in the doorway, staring directly at me. Her face was a mixture of confusion and… horror, as if she was seeing me for the first time. She took a hesitant step forward.

“I’m back.” Her voice was calm, almost too calm. “I had to work before coming here.” Her casual tone grated against my thoughts, and I stood up, watching her as she moved closer.

*Why is she behaving like everything is fine?*

She crossed the room, stopping just a few feet away. “If I’m to stay here, shouldn’t you at least fix the network? I can’t reach anyone here.”

Her words were like a slap, so casual, so careless. “Who do you wish to talk to?” I asked, my voice low, barely concealing my irritation.

“Liam,” she answered, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. “And I do need the network to see if I’ve gotten admission.”

I stared at her, the word sticking in my mind. “Admission?”

Her face brightened with a smile, as though she hadn’t noticed the growing storm in my expression. “I’m going to college. Majoring in psychology.”

I could barely comprehend what she was saying. *How can she speak like this?* So carefree, as if nothing mattered.
