A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL : CHAPTER 71 – 80
No matter how much I tried to deny it, I couldn’t forget the way he looked at me, the way he made my pulse race with just a single glance.
*This is ridiculous*, I thought, shaking my head. *I shouldn’t be thinking about Lucifer right now*. Especially not when I was on my way to see Liam.
By the time I reached Liam’s apartment, I was more confused than ever. His building was old but well-maintained, with a worn set of stairs leading to the entrance.
I hesitated for a moment before climbing the steps, my heart pounding in my chest. When I reached his door, I raised my hand to knock, but before I could, the door swung open.
Liam stood there, his eyes widening in surprise. “Selene?” His voice was soft, but there was a hint of tension behind it.
I forced a smile, though it felt weak. “Hey,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper.
He stepped aside, holding the door open for me. “Come in.”
I walked inside, my eyes scanning the familiar space. His apartment was small but cozy, filled with warm colors and little details that made it feel like home. It smelled faintly of coffee and something sweet, like he’d been baking earlier.
He closed the door behind me, and I could feel his gaze on me as I stood there, unsure of what to say. I was the one who had come here, but now that I was standing in his living room, I wasn’t sure what I was supposed to do.
“Why are you here, Selene?” Liam’s voice was gentle, but there was a seriousness in his tone that made my heart ache.
“What’s wrong?” I asked the second i notice the way his expression darkened even more.
“Why do you keep treating me like I don’t matter?” he blurted out, his voice heavy with frustration. “You said you would text me, but then you just go off, and I couldn’t reach you. You vanish. Do you get happy from how worried I get?”
I opened my mouth to respond, but the guilt weighed down my chest, choking the words. He was right. I had promised to text him, to stay in touch, but everything with Lucifer had consumed me, and Liam… I had forgotten about him.
“Liam, I—”
“I have a heart, Selene!” His voice was sharp, cutting through my attempted explanation. “I’m *human*,” he emphasized, his eyes flashing with a mixture of hurt and anger. “You act like I don’t matter.”
His words cut deep. I hadn’t meant to hurt him, but in my whirlwind of confusion, it seemed that’s exactly what I had done. I had no idea what to do to calm him, to make it right. So I did the first thing that came to mind. I kissed him.
It wasn’t planned. I just acted on impulse, closing the gap between us and pressing my lips to his. His lips were soft and warm against mine, and for a brief moment, I thought maybe this was enough.
Maybe this would fix things. But when I tried to pull away, he didn’t let me. His arms wrapped around me, pulling me closer as his tongue brushed against mine, deepening the kiss.
I felt good. The kiss was good. Warm, sweet, steady. But it wasn’t the kind of kiss that left me breathless. It wasn’t like the electric rush that I felt with Lucifer.
There were no fireworks or racing heartbeat. It was calm. Safe. Comfortable. But as much as I liked Liam, something inside me told me it wasn’t the same.
When we finally broke apart, my heart wasn’t pounding the way I thought it should be. Liam, however, looked at me with a newfound intensity in his eyes. He cupped my face in his hands, his gaze searching mine as if he were trying to find something.
“Selene,” he whispered, his voice soft but firm, “let’s date.”
I blinked, taken aback by his sudden confession. “What?”
“Please,” he said, his eyes pleading. “Be mine. I’ve waited so long… I can’t keep doing this—this waiting, this guessing. I want you, Selene. Only you.”
His words hung in the air, heavy and full of meaning. I stared at him, feeling the weight of his confession sink in. Liam was everything I should want. Kind, caring, dependable. He was safe. But my mind kept pulling me back to Lucifer, to the way he made me feel, the whirlwind of emotions that came with him.
“I… I don’t know,” I said quietly, the words slipping out before I could stop them.
His face fell slightly, his grip on my face loosening just a bit. “You don’t know?”
I shook my head, trying to explain. “Liam, I like you. I really do. But… things are complicated right now. I don’t know if I’m ready for—”
He let out a frustrated sigh, stepping back and running a hand through his hair. “Complicated? I will be good to you Selene, I promise ”
It won’t be bad to see where this goes right? I mean Lucifer won’t even know” okay ” I smile ” let’s date “.
