CAN’T RUN FROM YOUR SHADOW : CHAPTERS 41 – 50

MEMORIES FLASHBACK

It’s really dark.

“Please don’t hurt me” the clinging of the chains echos again and the little girl frozed, her breathing becoming ragged as she looks around in the dark.

It’s a boy’s voice, it’s scared and confused, probably at the verge of dying.

She sucked in her breath as she turned around, she needs to find the light switch, carefully draping her tiny hands on the wall, her soft palms searching for a switch and she found one, she exhaled deeply…. clicking the switch and a very faint light came on.

It’s not bright at all but it’s better than the complete darkness, she slowly closed the metal door, tucking the keys in her pocket as she spun around and her lips parted in shock. No way.

It’s a little boy, two years older than her, he’s been chained to the wall as he sat mesrablely on the cold ground, he’s cladded in a torn uniform and he looks almost dead.

The little girl slowly walked up to him and he lazily looks up, her eyes lit up in excitement as she saw how deep and grey his eyes were, even in the dark it seems to be shining so brightly.

“Hi, what’s your name?” She asked as she squatted in front of him, a cheerful smile on her face even though the condition she met him is horrifying.

He didn’t say a word, rather he simply looks at the other end and at the metal door before looking at the little girl who’s smiling sheepishly at him.

Her eyes traveled to his vision and indeed dried up blood was colored over the other end and the little girl gulped.

“Someone else was here too?” She asked but he didn’t respond, she bites her lips as she sits on the cold ground in front of him.

This place is so scary but there’s something about this muted boy. Doesn’t he know how to speak?.

“My name is Amelia but my Dad calls me Princess” she giggles but he simply turned his back at her, scurrying away from her.

Clear disappointment on her face as she slowly rised to her feet, her eyes traveled over his body, he looks beaten up and tortured, obviously by her Mother.

“You must be very hungry, don’t worry I will be right back” she gestures happily and slowly tiptoed away, after what felt like hours she returns and met him in the same position.

“Here you go” she offered him some food but he hesitated.

“I’m not going to hurt you, I’m going to help you get out of here” she whispered and he looks at her for a minute before slowly taking the food, even though his hands are bounded in chains.

She watched as he ate, and ate as if he hasn’t eaten in years, he looks starved.

“Do you mind telling me your name?, how did you get here?, What’s your family’s address?” She asked, battering her eyes as he gulped down the water.

He didn’t say a word as she continues to stare at him. He has the perfect eyes color, it’s so beautiful and she has fallen for it.

“Right now, my Mother is going through some wack case and my Dad is pretty busy, I’m going to find the keys to the chains and free you” she mouthed and he looks at her in the eyes.

“You are wild” he mutters almost inaudibly and her eyes lit up as she jumped on her knees and touched him.

“You can talk?, Finally” she goshed and he pulled away from her.

“You have so many wounds, I’m going to treat you up, even though I might end up getting killed by my Mother” she said and stood up almost immediately, stepping out before he could say anything…..not like he was going to say anything anyways.

After a few minutes the metal door creaked open and she stepped in with an aid kit, squatting besides him as she treats his blisters and deep cuts.

“We can be friends after you leave this place, you know?, I’m definitely going to set you free, you don’t have to suffer like me” she mutters as she finished treating his wounds.

She looks at how quiet he was, not saying a single word even after applying all those antiseptics.

“My Mother will definitely know that I came here, I promise to get those keys and free you” she said, arranging all the things she brought.

He just kept staring at her, not breaking eye contact as her big blue eyes returned the heat.

“I’m going to call you Grey eyes or Grey for short” she giggled and he stared at her for a minute before looking away, a dejected look plastered on her face.

“Would you prefer if I call you Mute?” She asked again and he looks at her sharply. His eyes blazing red.

But he doesn’t respond.

She slowly looks away.

“Say something, please” she pleaded and he leaned backwards, resting his back on the cold wall. The way he’s looking at right now is so emotionless, she can’t seem to read what’s going on in his head.

Someone is coming?, It must be her Mother!?, She thought she was going through an episode earlier, is she better now?.

Suddenly, clicking of heels could be heard, she forgot to close the door as she entered the third time, which made her realize that the room is actually soundproof, for the fact that her Mother actively keeps people here and nobody has ever heard them cry for help.

They do cry for help, but no one could hear them.

Amelia tightened her fists as she closed her eyes and slowly opened them.

“I will protect you, Mute” she whispered.

END OF MEMORIES FLASHBACK

It all makes sense now, those eyes, Byron’s story, the memories she had remembered up to this point, it’s all the same.

Amelia slowly lifts her head, she has been sitting down like a statue, not moving for the past twenty five minutes.

“Amelia?” Mia called tactilely, making sure to keep a safe distance between them.

“It’s him, he’s the one…..” Amelia sobbed as she tried pushing those ragging thoughts that comes after she remembers something, if she doesn’t calm down then….. she might just lose it.

Mia gulped as she carefully walked up to her.

“Who are you talking about?” Mia asked as she made to touch Amelia but Amelia backed away from her quickly, her eyes turning red.

Mia eyes widened as she also jolted backwards and she hits her butt on the floor….. using her hands to crawl away from Amelia.

This isn’t Amelia right now, this is someone else, and it’s scary as fúck.

“Don’t come closer or I might hurt you” Amelia whispered as she brings out her phone, her hands are shaking virgoursly as she searched for his number.

How did she not noticed?, the stories he’s been saying all this while adds up to everything.

“Amelia, please just calm down….” Mia mutters as she stood up and Amelia’s phone fell from her hands, her eyes slowly averting to Mia who’s standing beside the piano.

Did she just asked her to calm down?.

Big mistake. She should have just shut up and get out of there.

“I can’t calm down and I can’t breathe as well!” Amelia yelled, pushing the piano in front of her with a strength Mia doesn’t know she possessed. It crashed on the ground, most buttons flying away as Amelia falls from the backrest and grabbed her phone.

Mia was more than scared at this point.

“Amelia, what is wrong with you?, calm down” Mia said in fright and Amelia couldn’t look at her in the eye as she immediately texted Byron with shaky hands, she’s trying to regulate her breathing when she felt a pair of soft hands on her shoulder but…… but she did something terrible.

“Arggggh!!!” Mia yelled as Amelia hits her across the face. The punch was so strong that Mia falls to the ground with a bleeding nose.

No!, No!, Fúcking no!.

Mia scurried away from Amelia as she watched her struggling with herself, her eyes on the ground and she’s just shaking uncontrollably, Mia held her nose as she watched Amelia standing up.

She immediately backed away, even though some instruments were obstructing her, she didn’t stop, her feet moved backwards as Amelia slowly approched her.

“I won’t tell you to calm down again, I’m sorry” Mia muttered as she hurriedly made for the exit, the eyes Amelia used in staring at her were terrifying.

She heard smashing sounds, Mia heart stooped beating for a minute but she doesn’t look back, she dared not to look back at that monster cladded in Amelia’s body, another smashing sound comes again followed by Amelia’s yelling.

“What is wrong with her?” Mia asked, her nose hurting really bad as she opened the door but crashed into someone, she jolted backwards as she looks up and her eyes met with Byron’s.

Byron eyes widened when he saw Mia’s bleeding nose.

“She’s destroying everything” Mia muttered before brushing past him and running down the hallway.

More smashing sounds and ears deafening yelling.

Smashing, kicking, pulling, screaming!.

“Fúck!” Byron cussed as he immediately walked towards Amelia, she’s currently smashing the violin and stomping on it when he grabbed her hand and pulled her backwards. Her chest crashing against his.

Silence lingers for close to a minute before Amelia look up at him, her eyes coming in contact with his.

“You finally lost it” he said, looking around and he noticed she’s holding her breath.

“Just breathe, I’m here now” he said and she winced in pains, it took her a few minutes before she finally let’s out an exhale. She couldn’t look at what she had done as she hugs him instead.

He slowly hugs her back, allowing her to let it all out.

“Cry it out, we are the only ones here” he said in a calm voice again and just like magic, she broke down completely, hugging him tightly as more and more tears polled down her eyes.

Her whole body was shaking at this point but Byron didn’t mind, all that matters to him right now?, Is seeing her okay.

“Did you remember something?” He asked as she finally calmed down a little, her breathing becomes a bit steady as well as she slowly looks up at him.

He raised an eyebrow as she watched him, she’s not blinking. He snapped his fingers across her face and she pouted her lips forward, her hands slowly moving to his face.

“Mute……” She calls out and Byron’s heart skipped a huge bit, his mouth opened slightly as a small smile formed on her face.

Is he dreaming right now?.

CAN’T RUN FROM YOUR SHADOW : CHAPTERS 41 – 50

Anger and tension filled the room as Mr Steel flings the picture frame of the winning team members across his office, he looks mad, angry…… and devastated.

The school’s HR, watched in awe as Mr Steel ruffled his hair in fustration.

Why is Byron making things difficult for him?.

He knows he’s doing it on purpose, he knows he’s challenging him, he knows he’s trying to see what he can and would do, Byron is a huge rebel.

“Is there something wrong with the picture, Mr Steel?” The HR asked and Steel glared at him.

Of course everything is wrong with the picture!.

“Why is she in the picture?, Only team members are allowed to take a picture with the cup, why is she THERE!?” Mr Steel yelled and the HR flinched as he adjusts his glasses.

“Your son wanted her to be in it” the HR replied simply.

Of course, that sounds like something Byron would do!.

“And you allowed it?” Mr Steel asked with disgust.

“Why not?” The HR asked back.

“Why not?” Mr Steel chuckles in anger, “you are asking me why not?”.

“I see no reason why she being in the picture is a problem.” The HR shrugged his shoulders.

“I will tell you the reason, it’s disastrous!” Mr Steel yelled and the HR pinched the bridge of his nose in confusion.

“Disastrous?” The HR wondered out loud.

“Yes, disastrous!, That picture has to be taken down from the school, immediately!” Mr Steel ordered and that made the HR frowned.

“I’m sorry, but we can’t let that happen” the HR voiced out and Steel tilts his head backwards in utter shock.

“Excuse you?, did you just say that to me…?” Steel asked unbelievably.

“Yes I did say that, Yes I did” the HR retorted as he slowly stands up.

“You wouldn’t dare, you allowed something outrageous happen and you are refusing to take it down?” Steel asked with a glare.

“Listen Mr Steel, you are indeed an important personality in our school, we appreciate your efforts and everything but….. there are some certain things you don’t have a say on” the HR sounded serious as he looks at Steel dead in the eye.

“Certain things like what?” Steel asked in annoyance.

“Things like telling the school to take down a national picture, it’s the school business, we get to decide what should be on our walls, not you” the HR pointed out and Steel simply stared in awe.

“You are crossing the line…..” Steel trails off as the HR bows a little.

“No, you are the one crossing the line, simply because I brought the picture to you doesn’t mean you get to order me around, I own ALC and not you” the HR voiced out and Steel tightened his grip as he watched him leave.

“Then I’m withdrawing my funds from the school” Steel voiced out and the HR paused and slowly turned around.

“Your son is a national treasure, we need him and not your money” And with that, the HR walked out of the office as Steel boiled in anger.

“Ungrateful swine” Steel snarled as he bangs his fists on the table hard, most things falling off in the process.

He has never been this humiliated in his entire life, and Amelia is the reason behind it.

What should he do to her now?.

CAN’T RUN FROM YOUR SHADOW : CHAPTERS 41 – 50

“What’s the meaning of this!!!?” Silver’s Mom yelled as she decends the stairs in anger!.

“Byron and Amelia are dating?” Rico asked in confusion as well, staring at his phone as the news of Byron and Amelia circulated everywhere.

“That’s it!, Byron has crossed the line, this is pure insult to our faces!” Silver’s Mom paced angrily, her eyes guled to her screen.

“It’s all Steel’s fault, he doesn’t want to take action yet” Rico voiced out as he glared at no one in particular.

“What are we are we going to do!?, I haven’t heard from Silver and it’s very obvious Byron doesn’t want to have anything to do with her” Silver’s Mom laments.

“Amelia doesn’t know he’s engaged” Rico pointed out, his mind wandering lose.

“Would that matter?, He doesn’t give a fúck about us or our daughter or….” Silver’s Mom paused as Silver walked in through the gigantic door, she looks pale.

“Silver!” Her Mom sounded worried as she pulled Silver into her arms.

Her father simply sat still.

“Don’t you see it Mom?, Byron doesn’t want me” Silver sobbed as she hugs her Mother.

“Don’t cry my baby, it’s okay….. we’ll handle it” her Mom cooed and Silver shakes her head.

“Handle it?, He freaking kissed her in front of everyone” Silver broke down in tears, “I can’t stand such humiliation, didn’t you see the videos?, the pictures of them everywhere?, I’m so done with Byron” Silver voiced out and her father sighs.

Seeing his daughter crying is the most painful thing in the world.

“You still have to hold on a little bit, daughter, you can’t just let go” her father retorted and Silver pulled away from her Mom’s hug.

“I’m done, I’ve been humiliated enough!, Whatever you guys have planned?, just count me out of it!, I’M DONE!” Silver yelled and immediately ran towards the stairs, her cries echoing endlessly.

“Ric, our baby’s happiness comes first, you should call off the deal with Steel, our daughter isn’t a bait” Silver’s Mom glared at Rico before running after Silver.

“Who the hell does Amelia think she is?” Rico asked himself as he gets lost in thoughts.

CAN’T RUN FROM YOUR SHADOW : CHAPTERS 41 – 50

Byron’s Room

This room has come to be a place where she feels…….safe.

Is it weird?.

Come on, is it weird?.

Yes, maybe it is.

But do you know one thing?…….. Amelia doesn’t give a fúck!.

Heck yeah she doesn’t!.

They say, sometimes happiness comes from unlikely places and right now, being in Byron’s arms is all she could wish for.

“My Mother was a mental patient” Amelia mutters as she sits besides Byron on his bed, her legs dangling off as he looks at her.

“I knew that, I saw it in her eyes each time she punished me, I knew she wasn’t normal” Byron mumbles and Amelia’s heart squeezed in hurt.

“But why?, My father knew how dangerous she was, why didn’t he placed her in the assyum?, Why didn’t he do something about her?” Amelia trembled as Byron hugs her to his side and she cried on his chest, soaking his shirt.

“Don’t judge him yet, there must have been a reason” Byron whispered as Amelia cried harder.

“A reason?” She snorted in-between tears, “she kidnapped children and locked them up in a basement, Elzra was the kid who escaped while I opened the door for the first time that day!” She cries out and Byron rubs her back.

“She wasn’t normal, she didn’t know what she was doing” Byron defended.

Why is he defending her?.

“My father never knew because he was never around!, He was always busy!, He was way too busy to care about anything!” Amelia cried and Byron made her face him.

She looks like a mess, her eyes are red, bloodshot red, her cheeks are puffy and her lips are dried up. She looks drained completely.

“You should calm down…” He said and her eyes widened.

“Mia!…..oh my goodness!, I hit her!” Amelia shrikes as she tried standing up but Byron held her still.

“You should give her sometime, she’s still in shock” he said and she slowly nods her head.

“Byron, I’m getting worse” she mumbles and he shakes his head.

“You are regaining your memories, it’s bound to happen, don’t beat yourself up for something you absolutely have no control over” he said and she sighs.

“Awww, you look like a baby right now” he teased and she smiles.

“The music room…” Amelia trails off as someone pushed Byron’s door open, Amelia raised an eyebrow as Emily slowly walked in.

A mischievous grin formed on Byron’s face as she walked towards them.

“I…..I cleared it up” Emily mumbles silently as she stared at Byron who had a mischievous grin on.

Amelia looks at Emily for a minute before looking at Byron and then back at Emily again in confusion.

“What is she talking about?” Amelia asked.

“I took the blame for the music room and……my parents are going to pay for everything that was broken” Emily mumbles and Amelia’s eyes widened.

“Why?” Amelia retorted.

“Why not?, That’s her little way of apologizing for what she did to you” Byron grins and Amelia rubs her forehead.

“Byron, I’m pretty sure she had already learnt her lesson, I don’t want to have anything to do with her, so please, don’t entertwine us” Amelia said and Byron exhaled.

Emily couldn’t help but notice how awful Amelia looked at the moment.

“So, you don’t want to punish her?” Byron asked and Amelia shakes her head.

Just when he was planning on how Emily would do Amelia’s project, now Amelia doesn’t want to punish her?, Fúck it!.

“I don’t” Amelia mumbles and Byron groans in annoyance.

“Okay then, she just have to get on her knees right now and apologize to you properly before I consider letting her go” Byron eyes flashed with mischievousness and Emily eyes widened.

“What?” Emily asked in disbelieve.

Apologize?, She vowed never to apologize to Amelia.

“Do you have a problem with it?, We can always go back to our initial agreement, you wouldn’t want a few body parts missing now do you?” Byron asked with zero expression.

Amelia simply stared in awe as Emily fiddles with her hands, she felt her self esteem crashing down.

This is utter humiliation, pure disgrace, so embarrassing!.

“I don’t have all day, you know?” Byron asked and Amelia gave him ‘the look’ but he wasn’t paying attention to anything she was doing.

Emily screws her eyes shut as she slowly goes on her knees, her whole body boiling in fustration as she felt the ground.

Byron can be very cruel.

“I’m sorry, please…. forgive me” Emily mutters and Byron’s eyes lit up in excitement. Amelia saw his expression and hits his chest.

“It’s okay, I don’t hold anything against you” Amelia said and Emily looks at her before standing up, she didn’t wait a moment as she exits the room immediately.

Well played.

“That was refreshing, at least now I wouldn’t have to kill her” Byron mutters as he leaned into the bed and Amelia flops besides him.

“Stop threatening people for my sake” Amelia said and he scoffed.

“You have no idea just how people I have threatened” he whispered, his mind drifting off to his encounter with his father.

“I will be going home for our two days break tomorrow, I miss my Aunt…. and Dad” Amelia mumbles and Byron nods to himself.

“Just don’t force answers out of your Dad, I know you have other plans for going home” he narrows his eyes at her and she giggles with a mischievous grin.

“Aren’t you going home too?” She asked and he raised an eyebrow.

Home?, Wow……that sounds awfully cringing.

“I will be at the meet up for the break” he said and she nods, she knew something was off between him and his father.

They don’t seem to get along, he never talks about him.

“You used to be a jerk when we were little” Amelia rolled her eyes and he chuckles.

He knows she now remembered when and how they met, but she hasn’t remembered everything yet, especially her promise.

CAN’T RUN FROM YOUR SHADOW : CHAPTERS 41 – 50

Amelia smiles as she stood in front of her house, she has missed this place so much.

She seems to be smiling a lot, finally she remembered how she met Byron for the first time, he wouldn’t stop teasing her about it and even though it’s just yesterday…… she can’t help but feel like there’s more to them than that dark room.

She didn’t pack anything, just her phone and herself, most of her clothes are already at home.

Her phone beeped and it’s a text from Mia.

Her heart skipped a beat immediately.

Mia: currently nursing my nose right now, damn, I didn’t know you could punch so hard, now I know exactly how Silver felt.

Amelia: I’m so sorry, I can’t explain over text right now, but I promise to do so once I’m back.

Amelia hit send and she sighs, heading for the main door that leads to her house.

Mia: Nah, it’s alright, I deserve it.

Amelia smiles a little as she reacted on the last text, it’s feels kinda good that Mia is taking it so well and not avoiding her.

It’s actually a relieve, Mia can be understanding sometimes.

She shakes her head as she opened the door and immediately her father’s presence welcomed her.

“Dad, I’m home” Amelia giggles as she sits besides him, he immediately left what he was doing and hugs his daughter.

“Princess, it’s nice to have you around, even though you and your Aunt can be annoying sometimes” her Dad teased and she rolled her eyes.

“Someone is jealous, don’t worry, I will try to spend some time with you now that I’m here” she retorted.

“That’s more like it” her father teased and she hugs him again.

“Where’s my favorite Aunty?” She asked and her father sighs.

“She’s upstairs d……” He trails off as Milicent climbs down the stairs, “oh, there she is”

A bright smile plastered on Amelia’s face as she jumped on her feet and ran towards her Aunt, caging her in a bone crushing hug.

“I missed you so much….” Amelia cooed as she pulled away but her Milicent wasn’t smiling at her. She furrowed her eyebrows as she stared at her Dad and back at Milicent.

This is so strange.

“Is everything okay, Aunt?” Amelia asked with concern as Milicent stared at her with a glare.

“For how long have you been hiding it from us?” Milicent asked and Amelia furrowed her eyebrows. Cole immediately chimed in.

“Milicent, please don’t start” Cole, her father retorted.

“Stay the hell out of this Cole, I’m talking to Amelia” Milicent glared and Amelia couldn’t hide her confusion.

“What are you talking about?” Amelia asked.

“I’m talking about your memories, why didn’t you tell us you remembered something?” Milicent asked.

“This is exactly the reason why I didn’t want to tell you, I knew you would freak out” Amelia voiced out and Milicent chuckled lightly.

“And I guess it’s also the reason why you wouldn’t tell us about Byron Steel?, That no good doer?” Milicent asked and Amelia’s face almost turned red.

“Don’t call him that” Amelia retorted.

“Why?, Don’t you know we can’t be close to that family?, Do you know the complications of being close to the Steel’s?” Milicent asked with bulging eyes.

“Milicent that’s enough, Amelia is old enough to decide who she wants to be with” Cole glared at Milicent and she shakes her head.

“Not in this case, Amelia shouldn’t be close to him” Milicent probed.

Why is she saying that!?.

“And why is that?, I know my Mother did something terrible to him when he was little but he doesn’t care about it…… he cares about me, and if you love me too you should care” Amelia bursted out angrily.

“I love you Amelia and I’m telling you that nothing good will come out of your closeness to Byron, you will regret it” Milicent pointed out and Amelia grabbed her head with both hands fustratedly.

“Enough!, What is your deal Aunt?, First you don’t want me to remember my past and now you are against Byron?” Amelia asked in fustration.

“That’s because I care about you” Milicent voiced out.

Cole mutters something under his breath as he falls back on the couch. He doesn’t want to be part of the women drama at all.

“Tell me what I want to know, tell me the reason why you don’t want me to remember my past, tell me” Amelia asked and Milicent gulped down emptiness as she looks at her.

“I can’t… there’s nothing to tell” Milicent said and Amelia felt her stomach tightening.

Then you can’t tell me to stay away from Byron, he makes me happy, I love being around him” Amelia said before she even realized it.

Damn!.

“Amelia you have to listen to me, you both aren’t meant for each other”

“You are lying, you don’t have anything against him” Amelia voiced out in anger.

“You have to stay away from him” Milicent ordered.

“No” Amelia said point blank as she glared at Milicent.

“What did you just say?”

“I said no, I deserve happiness and Byron gives me that, and no one, not even you can take that away from me” she retorted and immediately started leaving the house, “Bye Dad” she mutters and Cole nods.

Milicent glared at Cole, he’s not making any attempt to stop her.

“Get back here, Amelia!” Milicent yelled and Amelia paused walking as she slowly turned around.

“Why?, I’m obviously not welcomed here” Amelia said with gritted teeth, clenching onto her phone.

“You dare not walk out on me” Milicent probed and Amelia chuckles bitterly.

“Until you tell me the reason behind your outburst?, Don’t talk to me” Amelia glared at her.

“I’m just your Mother, you should listen to me” Milicent voiced out and Amelia scoffed.

“You are my Aunt, not my Mother….. you should know your place” and with that, Amelia was out the door.

Millicent’s mouth hangs open as she stared at the closed door in utter shock.
