CHAPTER 38
THE MINISTER’S SON
“Not until you make me your bodyguard or boyfriend at least,” Collins pressed Cookie against the cool, tiled bathroom door, his fingers splayed on the wall beside her head.
The dim light from the single overhead bulb cast a soft, almost intimate glow around them, making the tension in the air feel almost palpable.
Cookie’s eyes darted to his, wide with a mixture of frustration and something else… something that softened her resolve.
“Collins, I can’t. You can’t just…”
He cut her off, his voice rough but laced with desperation.
“I need this, Cookie. I need you to make me your bodyguard, or at least…” he hesitated, his gaze flickering between her eyes and her lips
“Your boyfriend. I don’t trust anyone else.”
Cookie’s brow furrowed.
“Why me, Collins? Why do you trust me when you barely know me? I broke your head remember?” she reminded.
“And I smacked your âss,” Collins’s grip tightened on the door as if it were the only anchor keeping him grounded.
He met her gaze with a raw honesty that caught her off guard.
“I don’t know,” he admitted, his voice dropping to a whisper.
“But there’s something about you… something that makes me believe you’ll have my back when it counts.” he said so sincerely.
Her breath hitched, and she could feel his warmth seeping through the small gap between their bodies.
The urgency in his eyes, the way his breath mingled with hers, made her heart pound in her chest.
“Collins, this isn’t just about making you my bodyguard even though I don’t want one,” she said softly, her voice trembling.
“It’s about…”
“Please,” he interrupted, his voice cracking slightly.
“Just give me a chance. I need this. I need to know that someone out there will have my back, and I don’t know who else to turn to.”
Fûçk he’s not one to plead, he doesn’t like it at all but here he was doing what he never dreamt of just cos he needed it.
The desperation in his plea melted some of her defenses. She looked at him, seeing the vulnerability in his eyes, and felt her resolve wavering.
After a long, tense silence, she finally nodded, a faint smile tugging at her lips.
“Alright,” she whispered.
“You can be my bodyguard. But only if you promise to be honest with me.” she said seriously, her face same she always
A mixture of relief and gratitude washed over Collins’s face. He leaned in, their foreheads nearly touching, his breath warm against her skin.
“I promise,” he said softly.
“I’ll be honest with you, always…”
She shoved him backwards.
“Get off me!” She snapped, eying him. He laughed, stepping back, a sense of shared understanding and tentative intimacy lingered in the space between them.
The weight of their unspoken promises hanging in the air like a fragile thread connecting their hearts.
