CARSON

She sighed.

She took the pen from me and then began to solve on her notepad.

(2x?23y-2x)?

She solved on and on without explaining to me.

Looking at what she’s solving.

I felt like my head was spurning round and round.

Is she kidding me?

What is she doing?

“Done! “She dropped the pen looking at me while I kept looking at those numbers and letters as if they were my enemy.

“What did you just do? “I asked pointing and looking the work but she sighed.

“You asked me to solve it didn’t you? ”

“Yes buh, how did you do it? ”

“I solved it! ”

“How? ”

She groaned.

“For crying out loud Carson,

I solved what you asked me to do! ”

“Explain it!

How can you solve it for me without explaining!

How am I supposed to understand this! ”

She scoffed.

“And that’s why I say all the time that you’re a blockhead! ”

“I’m no blockhead!! “I snapped.

“Really?

Then you ought’ve understood what’s in there!

I really can’t stay with blockheads and you know it”

“I’m not a blockhead… I cleared my papers last semester… I know how to play my guitar,

Violin,

Piano and I changed my house to a bigger one!

I’m no blockhead! ”

I narrated and she began to laugh.

“And do you think having all these made you to stop being a blockhead?

Huh!

If you’re that smart,

You won’t have been black-mailed and sued to court! ”

“And you too,

If you’re that good… You won’t have been a fancy ballerina who can’t dance the balls but just a ballerina! ”

She kept mute when I fired back at her.

No one is so good!

She should know it!

“That wasn’t my fault!

I was in an accident…. “She spoke after ten minutes of silence before shutting up in the middle of her sentence staring at me with pain in her eyes.

Accident?

She got into an accident?

She never told anyone about it!

Oh…

I didn’t even know until now that she’s saying it.

I opened my mouth to speak but no words came out.

There are lots I need to know about this girl.

A whole lot!

“Don’t speak about something that you don’t know!

Don’t!! You dare speak about something you don’t know Carson!!”

She warned sighing.

Silence reigned between us.

Only our tensed breath was heard.

“I’m sorry”I spoke up and she heaved.

I grabbed my book which was in front of her if it really upset her that much but she placed her palm ontop of my own.

“Leave it”

She said taking my hand off the book.

“I will explain but once!

Don’t ask me questions!! “She accepted to teach me and I smiled.

“Okay “I nodded and we both bent down,

Our gaze on the book and then pen in between her right fingers and palm….

“If 2x is…. ”

She began,

From 2x to this ? and then 23y…

Five minutes passed… Twenty minutes… I was enjoying her teaching.

She can make a good teacher tho.

Thirty minutes…. She has her hands still teaching but I knew my eyes have wandered away from the book and the *maths work* to her face,

Her lips which kept moving as she spoke.

Her lips as pink as it is,

How beautiful it looks,

Her nose too,

My eyes stood there imagining how a girl’s nose could be that long,

Straight and sxy!

Then my eyes fell on her eyes,

Her lashes,

How it flapped at intervals.

Then those little hairs resting on the upper most part of her forehead added untold beauty to her face.

My eyes went back to her eyes and that’s when her gaze met mine,

It stuck there never wanting to leave those eyes which stared back at it.

My heart thumped more than it used to.

Each passing second made it thump harder than normal.

Her parted lips closed up that instant and I had the urge to kss those lips of hers.

I couldn’t even blink my eyes.

She didn’t either which made it more difficult for me to leave those blue eyes of hers.

It was like everything around me,

Whether breathing or not,

Living thing or nonliving thing never existed except me and her.

It felt like my eyes only see hers and not anything else.

I was lost in the realm of her eyes.

It was like a scenery for me looking into her eyes.

It was different!

The feeling I had whenever I looked into people’s eyes especially Riele was so different from what I saw in her eyes.

I didn’t want her to look away neither did I want to look away from hers….

What’s happening?

Why can’t I look away from his pretty eyes?

I gulped hard.

His eyes were captivating!

I don’t want to stop looking into them,

I really don’t want to…

Buzz…. Buzz…. Buzz… Buzz…

My phone vibrated and I gasped looking away from him.

I checked my phone,

It was a message,

From Ella,

I hissed checking the content of the message,

?Sis, want to come over to your house when the day breaks.

I replied,

?Good, come.

I dropped my phone on the desk and turned to him,

“Where did we stop? ” I asked and he mopped at me.

“Huh? ”

“I mean.. ”

“Leave it”he grabbed his book and put it away to his side,

“Why? ”

“I understand all of it now “he spoke nervously not looking straight at my face and I wondered why.

“Okay”I nodded and then sighed as we both fell silent again.

My mind wandered off,

How the accident happened to me,

How I was in the hospital,

How I met him,

How I slowly lost everything and lastly how he gave me a piggy ride back then.

How we fought over a pot of food.

I turned to look at him and discovered that he was looking at me too,

I looked away.

“You know…. “He suddenly began,

“What? “I asked eagerly wanting to hear something from him,

“You did shut me out why? ”

Is that what’s going on in his head?

“I didn’t shut you out”I replied slowly resting my head on the desk and he did same thing as our face stared at each other,

“You did,

You shut me out ”

“I didn’t, I shut everyone in my life out”

“Why? “He asked me and I shrugged.

I’m not sure if I can trust him when he’s clearly friends with Riele.

“Nothing, I just felt like being that way”I replied in a soothing voice and he smirked,

“No, because you lost everything right? ”

“Partly”I replied.

“I know,”he whispered and I half closed my eyes as everything that happened for the past eight months till now flashed through my eyes.

I gulped.

I don’t want to talk about this!

Its too painful to even think of it.

“Its… ”

“Carson I don’t want to talk about this please! ”

I snapped shutting him up and he sighed.

He raised his head up,

“It might’ve been really bad but don’t shut me out ”

I perked up my brow at what he said,

Shut him out??

What does he mean by that?

I raised my head up too,

“Why? ”

“Cuz… “He turned to look at my face and his eyes met mine again,

My heart skipped again.

“Cuz, you’re annoying! “He said slowly in a gritting voice and I scoffed.

“Thought you were going to say something nice”I scoffed once more and he began to laugh,

“What’s funny? “I asked as I began to laugh too and he laughed the more.

Ten minutes of laughter with him made me feel so relived.

“You’re laughing”he said as he stopped laughing and I frowned.

Was I really laughing with him?

Tch!

“I wasn’t “I denied tucking at my hair and he shifted closer to me,

“You did, “he argued bringing his face closer to mine and I gasped.

“I really did not!

I didn’t laugh”

“But you did!

You look so beautiful when you laugh”

Huh!

My cheeks got red up….
