INTO THE DEPTHS OF LOVE : CHAPTER 161 – 170

The kids cheered again, following the teachers as they made their way toward the gorilla enclosure. But while the rest of the group was moving forward, Kathryn, Corrine, and Isabella had other plans. The moment the teachers were distracted, they slipped away from the crowd.

“Are you really sure about this, Kathryn?” Isabella asked nervously.

“Yes, I’m sure,” Kathryn replied, her voice filled with determination. “We should see the lions for ourselves. Our teacher won’t take us to the lion’s cage, but we can do it!”

Kathryn’s eyes sparkled with excitement. She had always been curious about lions. “

“Kathryn is right,” Corrine chimed in, always ready to support her friend. “We should see them for ourselves and see if they’re as scary as the teachers say.”

“Where is the lion enclosure?” Isabella asked, her eyes scanning the large zoo grounds.

“We’re in a zoo, duh,” Kathryn said, rolling her eyes. “We’ll find it.”

With Kathryn leading the way, the girls walked quickly, avoiding any adults and staying out of sight.

Soon, they found themselves standing in front of the lions’ cage. They were pacing inside the enclosure.

“It’s the lions” Kathryn squealed, her face lighting up with awe.

“They’re so beautiful,” Corrine whispered, mesmerized by the majestic animal.

Isabella, however, felt a knot tighten in her stomach. “We should go back,” she said, her voice shaky. “We’re too far from the teachers, Kathryn. This isn’t safe.”

“Just a few more minutes,” Kathryn said, her eyes glued to the lion. “My daddy didn’t approve of me coming here, and I won’t get another chance to see this. Everyone keeps saying it’s a wild animal, but it’s not doing anything dangerous.”

Suddenly, one of the lions locked eyes with them. It let out a deep, rumbling roar that shook the ground. The girls screamed, their courage evaporating in an instant. Without a second thought, they turned and ran, their small legs pumping as fast as they could carry them.

In the panic, Kathryn tripped and fell to the ground, her knees scraping the dirt. Her friends kept running, too terrified to stop.

“Corrine, Isabella, wait for me!” Kathryn said, struggling to get back on her feet. But as she stood up, brushing the dust off her knees, a shadow loomed over her.

Before she could scream, a hand clamped over her mouth, muffling the sound. Kathryn’s eyes widened in terror as Paul, grabbed her.

Kathryn screamed, but Paul quickly covered her mouth. In the struggle, one of her sneakers slipped off as Paul hurriedly carried her out of the zoo, unseen.

Meanwhile, Corrine and Isabella returned to the rest of the group, panting.

“Corrine, Isabella! Where did you two go? And where’s Kathryn?” Vanessa asked, noticing the absence of Kathryn.

“I think… I think the lion ate her!” Isabella cried, tears spilling from her eyes.

“What?!” Vanessa’s face paled, and her heart raced.
