Tabitha took off her huge hat and smirked at Adriana, and being a sensitive little girl, she could read through those smirks.
“You are a kidnapper,” Adriana said in a low voice and tried to run away, but her legs were still too small, so Tabitha caught her before she could even run.
“Let me go! My mommy and daddy won’t spare you for kidnapping me!” she shouted.
Tabitha smirked again and squatted beside her.
“Your mommy and daddy? They’re not even your parents.”
“That’s not true. My mommy has raised me since I was born,” Adriana defended. She was ten years old.
“That’s because I made them believe so. Their child is someone else,” Tabitha said with a wicked smile.
“What do you mean?” Adriana sniffled.
“Wanna know about your real mom? Well, she is dead, and luckily, you were born on the same day Ophelia had a child. While she was still conscious and Julio was worrying about her, I swapped her child with you. You owe me a lot, Adriana; I gave you the chance to live in luxury for ten years.”
“You’re lying! Mommy and Daddy are my real parents!” Adriana tried to run away again, but for the second time, Tabitha caught her and threw Adriana away like a piece of trash.
Adriana’s back hit the wall, and she winced in pain. Tabitha grabbed her hair, and Adriana began to cry.
“Don’t test my patience, kid!”
“Why are you doing this to me?” Adriana asked, crying.
“Wanna know why I allowed you to live as both Julio and Ophelia’s daughter and make them think you are their daughter? It’s because I want you to be part of my revenge plan.”
“I don’t want to be part of your revenge plans. I want to go home to my mommy and daddy,” Adriana cried, and Tabitha gave her a hot, stinging slap on the face.
Adriana began to cry, and her cries increased when Tabitha held her hair forcefully again.
“Just so you know, I’m a monster! If that good-for-nothing son of mine were here, you’d have witnessed what I am capable of doing! But Richard already escaped from me, so if you don’t want to replace him, you better do as I say, or I’m going to lock you up!”
Adriana began shivering and asked, “What should I do?”
Tabitha smirked.
“Good choice. I’m going to train you to have a heart like mine, and you’ll help me get my revenge on both Julio and Ophelia. If you dare to betray me, I’m going to kill your twin brother.”
“Twin brother?” Adriana asked.
“Yes. Your mom might be dead, but your family isn’t. I’d give you the chance to see them, but you can’t reveal your identity to them. And in the future, if you dare try to betray me, I’m going to have your crippled father and brother killed.”
Tears fell from little Adriana’s eyes, and Tabitha smirked.
**FLASHBACK ENDS, PRESENT TIME**
Adriana exhaled, wiping the tears from her eyes. She had always been a part of Tabitha’s plan ever since then.
Tabitha trained her to be manipulative and have a dark heart. She knew Richard even before she met him; what she didn’t know was that she’d fall in love with him after they met.
Exhaling again, she looked at the tracking device on her phone, and a little smile crept onto her face when she saw her twin brother taking care of her crippled dad.
“I’m sorry, Richard; I love you, but I can’t afford to lose my family,” Adriana muttered to herself again.
Her phone chimed, and when she looked at it, she saw a notification from Tabitha.
“The plan has been made,” Adriana read Tabitha’s text aloud, her heart pounding.
