INTO THE DEPTHS OF LOVE : CHAPTER 171 – 180
“I was with my husband when I got a text from Adriana. She asked us to meet up, so I went to her. Suddenly, I felt someone’s presence, but before I could turn to see who it was, he grabbed me, and I passed out. I’m sure it was a man, judging by the strength of his grip. When I woke up, Adriana was dead. Before I could think of what to do, the cops arrived and accused me of killing her,” Kristin explained, her voice breaking with every word.
“Why didn’t you inform Luke or the FBI who are handling Tabitha’s case?” Janice asked.
“I thought Adriana was finally going to turn herself in, and I acted rashly,” Kristin replied as Gladys consoled her.
Romina didn’t come with them because she was taking care of Kathryn.
“This story won’t hold in court. You were found at the crime scene, and the fingerprints on the gun match yours. To prove your innocence, we need solid evidence,” Janice stated.
“It’s all Tabitha’s doing! Kathryn said she was kidnapped by both Tabitha and Adriana. Tabitha must have done this to distract us from finding her,” Gladys added.
“Kathryn is only six years old, so she can’t testify in court—it’s against the law. You’ll be charged in a few days, and we need evidence. Do you have anyone who can testify for you besides Luke, Romina, and your mom?” Janice asked.
Kristin thought for a moment and said, “Julio, Richard’s adoptive father. He knows I would never kill Adriana.”
“Apart from these testimonies, we also need to gather evidence. I will do my best to help you,” Janice assured her.
Kristin nodded, wiping her tears.
After the conversation, Kristin returned to her cell, where Cecelia grabbed her hair forcefully.
“How dare you, Kristin! I’ve been here for months, and Luke has never come to see me, but he comes to see you just three days after you arrive?” Cecelia fumed.
Kristin managed to jerk her hand away after a brief struggle.
“Because you’re a murderer, Cecelia. You killed my dad and an eighteen-year-old boy. You’re not worth Luke’s time.”
“Say whatever you want, Kristin, but rest assured, you’ll be found guilty, and I’ll make your life miserable here,” Cecelia threatened.
“On whose watch?” Margaret asked, stepping forward.
“You only have one hand left, Cecelia. Should I cut it off?” Margaret taunted.
Cecelia glared at Kristin before storming off to sit with the other prisoners; there were four of them in total.
“Are you okay?” Margaret asked.
Kristin nodded.
“Here, drink this. I managed to steal it while working in the field,” Margaret said, handing her a drink.
“Why are you nice to me? You don’t seem like the type to be nice,” Kristin said.
“Thank Richard for that.”
“My husband?”
Margaret nodded. “He might not remember me, but I remember him. Before I joined the gang, Richard saved my dad’s life. I couldn’t afford his medical bills, and I was ready to die before him. Richard almost ran into me with his car. When he found out why I wanted to die, his cold, deep voice scolded me, and he paid for the bills. That was three years before he met you. He might seem scary, but he has a kind side the world doesn’t see.”
“Is that why you’re nice to me?”
“You’re 95% right, and the other 5% is because you’re beautiful. This wouldn’t be happening to you if Richard weren’t unconscious. I’m one of the people praying for his recovery and for your innocence. You’re pregnant. I don’t want you here.”
“Thanks, Margaret.”
Margaret smiled before joining the other prisoners.
“Stop glaring at her, Cecelia, or I might pull out your eyes,” Margaret threatened.
Kristin sat on her bed, caressing her baby bump, missing Richard and fearing what the trial’s outcome would be.
