INTO THE DEPTHS OF LOVE : CHAPTER 71 – 80
Richard rushed to the door, blocking her exit.
“Firefly, I’m sorry. You know I would never hit you, right?” His voice cracked, teetering on the edge of breaking down.
He hated when anyone hurt Kristin, but today he had been the one to inflict pain on her, and he felt like stabbing himself for doing it.
“I want to leave,” she said quietly, unable to hold back her tears. She was heartbroken.
Richard shook his head, his eyes growing wet.
“Don’t go, Firefly. I’m sorry. I am so sorry. It won’t happen again,” he pleaded.
“I want to leave. Get out of the way,” she sniffled, her tears revealing just how shattered she was.
Seeing her cry caused Richard intense pain. He never wanted to be the reason for her tears, but it was too late.
Kristin was crying because of him.
“Move away from the door, or do you want to hit me again?!” she screamed.
“No, no, I won’t. Please forgive me,” he finally broke down.
“Then let me go. I don’t want to stay. I want to leave!” she screamed again.
When Richard hesitated to move from the door, Kristin rushed to the window.
“What the heck are you doing? Are you trying to kill yourself? You’re on the 16th floor!” His voice cracked, no longer its usual baritone, because guilt had consumed every part of him for hurting Kristin.
“Then let me leave!”
“Firefly,” he took a step closer.
“Don’t come near me, or I’ll jump!” she threatened, her eyes glassy as the tears fell.
“I’m sorry,” he apologized, but he knew even a thousand apologies wouldn’t mend what he had just done.
Luke entered, his eyes glued to the document in his hand. “Richard, I got you the documents you wanted…” He paused when he saw the tears in Kristin’s eyes and the emotional turmoil on Richard’s face.
“What’s going on here?” he asked.
Kristin wiped her tears and ran out of the office before Richard could stop her.
“Why is Kristin crying?” Luke demanded. He might be in love with Cecelia, but he cared deeply about Kristin.
Richard let out a loud scream, laced with regret.
“I’m so stupid!” he cursed himself, slamming his fist against the wall.
“I shouldn’t have done that! I shouldn’t have done it!” Richard cried out, pounding his fist violently against the wall.
His knuckles were bleeding from how aggressively he punched the wall, but he didn’t stop.
He wanted to punish himself for laying a hand on the woman he loved.
He had slapped Kristin; the thought of it made him punch the wall harder, his blood staining the surface.
“Richard, you need to stop!” Luke pulled him away from the wall. Richard staggered and fell to the ground, his knuckles dripping with blood.
“What’s going on? Why this reaction, and why was Kristin crying?” Luke questioned.
“It’s all my fault!” Richard’s tears fell freely.
