INTO THE DEPTHS OF LOVE : CHAPTER 71 – 80
Kristin swallowed the painful lump in her throat.
“I wanted to go back, but I keep restraining myself. How can I still be in love with a man who raised his hand against me? I couldn’t believe he’d slap me, Luke.
I tried to understand him, knowing he’s cold and has a temper, but I never thought he’d actually hit me,” Kristin cried.
Luke stepped closer and hugged her.
“Richard is a fool for slapping you, Kristin. You can resent him. How dare he slap my buddy? Should I kill him for you?”
Kristin chuckled and broke the hug.
“Are you trying to make me laugh, or do you mean it?”
“I mean it. I could kill Richard for you. Just say the word.”
“Should I buy a gun, then?”
“Yes, you should. I know a gun dealer.”
Kristin laughed, wiping her tears away.
“Thank you, Luke, for looking for me. It’s a good thing it’s not Mr. Grouchy. I don’t want to face him right now.”
“You have every right to be resentful towards him, but know your big brother from another mother has your back.”
Kristin smiled. “You should also settle your differences with your wife.”
“I’m going to try,” Luke said, wiping her tears with a smile.
INTO THE DEPTHS OF LOVE : CHAPTER 71 – 80
Kristin sat on the bed. Though she smiled at Luke earlier, she was still sad that Richard had slapped her.
She had come back to Richard’s house, even though she was upset with him. She had nowhere else to go except for his place.
Luke had offered his home, but she declined. Kristin didn’t want to trouble him and his wife.
She didn’t blame herself for being slapped because she knew she hadn’t done anything wrong.
Kristin heard footsteps, and knowing it was Richard, she quickly pretended to be asleep.
The door to her room opened, and she tightened her eyes.
Richard, thinking Kristin was asleep, felt a painful lump in his throat as he watched her. His hands were bandaged from how hard he had hit them on the wall.
He sat beside her.
He reached out to hold her hand but restrained himself, reluctant to touch her after what he had done.
“Firefly,” he called softly, but Kristin kept her eyes tightly shut.
“I’m sorry,” he said, his voice filled with regret.
“I don’t know what came over me. If I could go back and undo what I did, I would. I feel so…” His voice choked with tears. “I feel so disappointed in myself for what I did to you.
I’ve already enrolled in a therapy program. I’m going to be a better man for you. I’m going to work on my anger issues because you’re the last person I ever wanted to hurt, Firefly. I’m sorry,” he sniffled.
Kristin could hear him crying, but she continued to pretend to be asleep. She wasn’t ready to face him.
“I’m so sorry, my wife,” he whispered. He stood up and gently placed a soft kiss on her forehead.
“I’m sorry,” he apologized again before leaving the room.
Kristin sat up in bed, staring at the door as if he were still there.
Her hand went to her cheek, where the slap had stung deeply.
She just needed time to forgive him.
