INTO THE DEPTHS OF LOVE : CHAPTER 81 – 90

Kristin quickly hung up and rushed out of the grocery store. Within ten minutes, she was back at Richard’s house, where she saw him waiting for her outside.

“Why are my parents here?” she asked as soon as she reached him.

“They found out we’re married.”

“But how? I never told them.”

“They saw the post online. Remember that public kiss we shared? If I’d known it would reach them, I would’ve had it deleted.”

Though in truth, Richard hadn’t deleted the post because he’d found it captivating.

Kristin, without another word, tried to leave, but Richard caught her hand.

“Are you still mad at me?”

Kristin remained silent.

“I’m sorry,” he murmured, though he’d already apologized countless times. He desperately wanted her forgiveness. He hadn’t stopped cursing himself for what he’d done.

“This isn’t the time to talk about it. Don’t worry, I won’t tell my parents that you slapped me. I have bigger things to deal with than snitching on you.”

“Kristin, I’m really sorry,” he said softly, caressing her hand, but she pulled away and went inside to face her parents.

Dante and Gladys were walking around the house, marveling at its grandeur.

“He owns this house?” Gladys muttered, a smile tugging at her lips. “He’s filthy rich, Dante.” She couldn’t help but admire the mansion’s beauty.

“Don’t get distracted by his wealth. We have a serious reason for being here, remember?” Dante reminded her, and Gladys quickly composed herself, and they both sat down.

“Dad, Mom,” Kristin called out as she entered, with Richard following close behind.

Dante stood up; “Is this the ‘small place’ you said you were living in? You told us you were working as a waitress, but instead, you got married in Vegas without telling us!” Dante’s anger was palpable.

“I’m sorry, Dad. I didn’t mean to lie to you,” Kristin choked out, hating that she had to deceive her parents, but she knew what their reaction would be if they knew the truth.

“Then start explaining why you married behind our backs! Do you know how shocked we were to see that post of you kissing him?” Gladys asked, pointing at Richard, who remained calm.

Kristin swallowed hard, searching for the right words, but before she could speak, Richard took her hand.

She looked up at him, while her parents stared in disbelief.

“I was the one who asked her to marry me,” Richard said firmly.

“Why would you ask my daughter to marry you?” Dante demanded, eager to understand how this situation came to be.

“Because I love her. If you love a woman, wouldn’t you want to marry her?” Richard responded.

Kristin couldn’t take her eyes off Richard. She wasn’t entirely sure if he was telling the truth about loving her, but it was better than telling them the rumors about him being gay. They’d probably end the marriage and drag her back to Glenwood.

“Then why did you keep your marriage a secret? You came to Glenwood, and instead of introducing yourself as her husband, you introduced yourself as her boss,” Gladys said, her voice sharp, eyes flicking between Richard and Kristin with a mix of suspicion and disappointment.

“We wanted to tell you both at the right time. We didn’t mean to hide it,” Richard replied, his voice calm but firm as his hand remained on Kristin’s hand.

“Is he telling the truth? Did you both get married because you love each other?” Dante asked.

Kristin glanced at her father. Even if she had made mistakes in the past, he always wanted her to marry a man who truly loved her.

She wasn’t sure about Richard’s feelings, but she knew she was in love with this cold, gray-eyed man standing beside her.

Their marriage might have started as a contract, set to end in one year, but over time, she had fallen in love with him. Even when he hurt her, deep down, Kristin knew Richard never meant to.

He couldn’t control his anger, but that didn’t excuse the slap.

“Kristin?” Her father’s voice brought her back to reality, pulling her from the storm of her thoughts.

She swallowed hard, forcing a smile as she looked at her parents. “He’s telling the truth,” she said finally, her voice steady despite the turmoil inside.
