REJECTED MATE : CHAPTER 1 – 10

[TAKEN BY THE WARRIORS]

COUNTRY SIDE

Jericho, Brin, and Zander came out of the second store and Brin stopped.

“Why didn’t you sell it? He offered more money than the first guy,” Brin said

Zander looked at Jericho who shook his head negatively.

“Aria said it’s worth more than money,” he replied and opened his palm where the stone lay, closing back his palm again he put it in his trouser pocket.

“It’s just a common stone, let’s just sell it and buy food, we can’t starve Jericho. No matter how precious the stone might be, to some people like us it’s just useless, and the only way we can make it useful is by selling it and making money out of it,” Brin explained

“I think Brin is right,” Zander said in support

“You might be wrong or right but let’s check a few other stores before selling it to the last bidder,” Jericho replied.

Brin let out a sigh as they walked away.

They entered the next jewelry store eight feet away and the young attendant stared at them as though they had lost their way.

Well, you wouldn’t blame him, they were dressed in worn-out clothes and looked hungry.

“Did you lose your way?” he asked, staring from Jericho to Zander before looking at Brin.

“Learn some manners, if your parents didn’t teach you then I will gladly do…” Brin was still staying when Jericho touched his shoulder.

“It’s okay, don’t make it a big deal,” he said calmly.

“How dare he speak to us in such manner, just cos we aren’t rich yet doesn’t mean we won’t be,” he grumbled

The store guy chuckled.

“Even poverty wants to be rich, what do you want cowboys? I don’t have all day,” he said in a mockery tone.

“Jericho just show him the stone, let’s get out of here,” Zander said, he was keeping his cool in check and might bêât the shît out of this guy if care is not taken.

“No, let’s just leave, we won’t sell to him,” Brin rasped

“Security! Security!!” the guy called.

Jericho pulled his brother by the side.

“Listen, I know you have anger issues but keep it cool, do you hear me?” he said in that elder brother tone.

“But…”

“Do you hear me, there shall be no objection to what I say to you. Do you hear me?” his tone was firm and serious, Leaving no room for argument.

Brin glanced at the guy over the counter before shifting his gaze back to his elder brother.

“Fine,”

They walked back to the front of the counter and two securities made to come for them but Jericho stepped forward.

“We are not here to cause trouble, we simply wanted to sell this,” he brought out the stone wrapped in a dirty brown piece of clothes, and immediately he did.

Sparkles from it radiated through the whole light in the room, making all the glass shine brightly like diamonds.

“Oh my, I can put this in my museum,” a man said, walking over to them. He reached for the stone but Jericho withdrew his hand, quickly wrapping it up.

“Hey, is that what you came to sell?” the attendant that was rude to them earlier said, his face now beaming with smiles.

Weirdly, his voice was calm.

“I can buy that for..”

“Sir, they want to sell to me, please don’t do that,” the attendant said to the man and he looked at them.

“Very well, but boys don’t let anyone fool you, the soul-stone is priceless as it has only been held by a queen called ‘Lumira’ centuries ago.…”

“Sir, please leave,” the attendant said

“She was cursed…” he was still saying when two security guards came forward, gilding him towards the door.

“Don’t let them fool you, that stone is worth more than they will pay you here bring it to me and I will pay a million dollars for it,” he shouted as they dragged him out completely.

“A million dollars,” Brin’s eyes widened.

He exchanged glances with Zander, wondering if Zander was thinking what he was thinking.

The first two guys they went to offered, a hundred dollars then another said the stone was of no use and asked them to come back when they found no buyer but here this man was saying it was worth a million dollars.

“So, let’s do business, lemme see,” the attendant said

Jericho passed the stone to him and he checked it out with a microscope, after checking it for five minutes, he rang a silent bell which was under the counter and another guy joined him.

“It’s the soul stone,” The new guy said.

” The one the history queen used during her days,” the attendant replied.

” We could resell it for billions,” The attendant said quietly.

” Yes, let’s price two hundred,” the new guy mumbled so slowly that only the attendant could hear.

“One museum madman already let them in on the price, a million!” the attendant made a sad face.

” The stone is worth more than a million, let’s just buy it in the amount and resell it for greater profit,” the other guy replied.

The two men mumbled to themselves, in a slow calm whisper but Jericho heard them.

He reached forward, taking the stone out from them, and that made them look at him.

“Is there a problem?” The attendant asked.

“I change my mind,” he replied walking out of the store

Brin and Zander went after him.

“Come, we can buy it at a good rate!”

“How about 1M?”

Jericho totally ignored them.

DEMON SLAYERS KINGDOM

“You’re here already?” Prince Jasper said, walking over to where Xander and others were waiting.

He’s the queen’s brother and captain of the warriors.

“Lord Jasper,” Imogen called in her tiny seductive voice.

He didn’t even spare her a glance as he walked past, Lyla chuckled. Her gaze met with that of Imogen and she hissed.

“We are going hunting, I feel demons are looming around outside the wall, we wouldn’t want them to harm anyone coming into this wall or bringing damage to us,” Xander said

He stepped forward and offered a handshake, Jasper took it.

“Asher, Niko, and I Will guide the gate. Quinn and Violet, I want you both in the tower. Obiden is trying to awake the demons and unlock those we imprisoned so you both will watch and give us feedback,” he ordered authorizingly.

Violets felt goosebumps as Quinn shifted to her side.

“It’s me and you, huh?” She whispered and Violet nodded, gulping down emptiness.

“The rest should come with me,” Xander said

“No, Lyla and Hazel go back to the powerhouse, You can go with Declan, Imogen, Marran, and Owen, it’s four warriors plue yourself making it five, it will be enough,” Jasper objected and Xander nodded.

“Let’s get going,”

COUNTRY SIDE~~8:45 PM

“I still don’t get it, why didn’t you sell it?” Brin asked in an angry tone.

“Aria needs to study it….”

“Damn it, Jericho! Are we going to eat study? Aren’t you tired of this suffering? Well, if you’re not then I am, okay!” Brin stormed off.

Jericho glanced at Zander who shook his head in disbelief.

“First time we getting close to riches but your idiocy won’t let us,” Zander followed Brin.

OUTSIDE

Brin was packing his hunting bag when Zander joined him outside.

“Where are you going?”

“Isn’t it obvious? I’m leaving,” he replied rudely.

Zander went closer.

“It’s an hour’s drive from here to Atlanta and if you walk I don’t know how long it will take, it’s dangerous at night,” Zander said but Brin didn’t attempt to stop what he was doing.

By the time he was done packing the bags, he went into the house, coming out with Aria.

“Where are you taking me?” She asked, trying to pull away from his stronghold but his grip was iron-tight.

“We are leaving, Jericho has something that will make us rich but he refused to take us out of this miserable life,” he began pulling her down the road.

Zander ran forward, forcing his grip off Aria’s hold then stood before him with Aria hiding at his back.

“Stop this madness!!”

“Move!!!” Brin’s voice was menacing.

“Brin, listen…”

“I said move, she’s not even your sister so know your place!” Brin fired only to be appreciated with a punch, it came from Zander.

“She might not be my sister but I watched her grow, we have been family in this house and I won’t let you take her anywhere without her consent,” he roared.

Brin launched at him instantly and before you know it, fight started.

“Jericho! Jericho, they are fîghtîng! Jericho!” Aria took off, running back into the house.

Jericho was just coming out of the bathroom when he saw her so he followed without questioning.

“Brin! Brin, have you lost your mind?” He launched himself into their middle.

“Let him go, Zander!”

“This little brat, move away lemme show him that I’m still older than him,” Zander bellowed.

“I’m gonna kîll all of you….”

“Cut it off, Both of you, now!!” Jericho finally pushed Zander off Brin whom he had on the ground.

Brin dragged himself to his feet, whipping the blood stains on his lips with the back of his palm. He staggered and made to launch at Zander again but Jericho held him.

“Get your f**k hands off me,” Brin pushed him off. Breathing through his mouth.

Zander was also trying to catch his breath and deep down he was regretting what he did to Brin, he was just 24, young, and stupid.

A part of him wanted to go to him but another part of him didn’t care, he started it.

After picking up his backpack, Brin glared at Aria.

“Let’s go!” He said, stretching out his hand and hoping she would take it. “Let’s go to Atlanta, come with me and I will take care of you and buy you everything you need unlike some people who have money but refuse to provide for their family, come with me Aria,” he said with tears in his eyes.

Aria took a step forward but Jericho grabbed her arm.

“She’s not going anywhere,” his voice was firm and serious.

Brin totally ignored him.

“Aria,” he called wishing she could just come to him but she looked up at Jericho whose grip on her wrist was iron-tight and didn’t make a move.

“Fine, just know that I love you and I want the best for you,” he began walking away.

“Jericho he’s leaving,” Aria said with watering eyes and then she began sobbing.

“Brin, don’t go,” she made to move forward but with Jericho’s grip around her wrist, she couldn’t move.

Jericho went instead.

“Brin, wait! Let’s talk about it,” Jericho said jogging towards him, he held his brother’s arm but Brin pushed him away.

The stone he used as a necklace cut and Aria ran over to pick it up.

“You okay?” Zander asked, focusing his attention on her and she smiled.

“Yeah, if not that Brin is my brother I would have said your fîghtîng skill is superb,” she smiled at him.

He removed a hair stain from her face and then smiled at her.

“Sorry, for doing that to him, I thought he was hurting you,” he said calmly and she shifted closer to him.

he held her shoulder, pulling her closer as if he didn’t want to let go but then she pushed away.

“No, and stop touching me before Jericho gets back and sees us, I might be 22 but he thinks I’m 2,” she mumbled

He chuckled.

“I won’t let anyone hurt you, I promise,” he said before shifting his gaze to Jericho and Brin.

“Are they fighting?” She asked in a panic tone.

“Stay here, I will go check on them,” Zander replied, jogging towards them.

He hadn’t taken up to fifteen steps when he heard her scream.

“JERICHO!!!!” She let out a terrific scream

High in the treetops, a creature like no other perched on a gnarled branch. It was a vulture, but unlike any that had ever been seen before. Its eyes glowed a deep red, and its beak was razor-sharp.

It was the size of a human, or perhaps even a large cat, and its wings were spread wide, casting a dark shadow over the ground below.

As it let out another terrifying shriek, Aria below screamed in fear.

“Aria, stay down!!!” They all shouted at the same time. Running towards her but before they could get close the vulture flew down, carrying her in its talons and it soared high into the sky.

“Aria!!” Jericho called out to her.

“Jericho!!!” She cried out.

“Aria,” Brin called and drew the machete he wanted to travel with.

the vulture was too fast and too high. As it flew, Aria could see the ground getting smaller and smaller, until it was just a speck below.

Her brothers were now mere dots in the distance, their cries barely audible.

She closed her eyes, her heart pounding in her chest, as the vulture continued its journey, far away from home. Suddenly, The stone in her hand began to glow and With a ferocious screech, an eagle swooped out of the sky, colliding with the vulture in a blur of feathers and talons. The two birds tumbled through the air, their wings flailing as they fought for dominance.

Finally, the eagle gained the upper hand, pecking at the vulture’s head until it released its grip on Aria.

The stone was still glowing.

“Aggghhhhhhhh!!” She plummeted toward the ground, screaming as the wind rushed past her.

Below, Zander ran toward her, trying to catch her before she hit the earth.

“Jericho hurry!!!” Brin screamed fearfully, running towards her but Jericho was the closest.

They were a few feet away from her and if she landed on the ground then it was game over!

“Aria,” Jericho’s voice was cracky as he threw himself forward, trying to see if he could reach her, But just as it seemed she would crash into the ground, the eagle swooped in.

It spread its wings wide, catching her with its talons just before she hit the ground. The stone in her hand continues to glow.

Jericho, Zander, and Brin halted instantly, eyes wide. Before they could make out what was happening a wolf ran into the scenes with blood all over its mouth.

It’s actually the vulture’s blood.

Without a second thought, Jericho reached for his firearm behind him and pulled the trigger. The wolf dropped down with blood oozing out of its leg.

“Owen,” Marran called and ran to him.

“Stay behind me,” Jericho shouted, watching the animals cycle them, there were like five of them

The eagle, a Syfy-wolf, the wolf which he shot, a large cat, and a fox. The look on their faces wasn’t funny.

Okay, maybe he never believed in werewolves, shapeshifters, or Aline but he could see them now.

Brin has Aria behind him.

“Run when it gets dirty, okay?” Zander whispered and she nodded.

At lightning speed, Jericho pulled his trigger but the animal was faster than he anticipated. The cat was so furious that it knocked him against the big tree nearby.

“Aria, run!!!!” Zander yelled charging forward and Aria took off, just as she was told, before she could take five steps the centaur grabbed her like a baby.

“No! Lemme go!!!”

“Jericho!! No!!!”

“Let her go!!” Brin shouted, charging forward but how could he fight wild animals?

The fox charged at him and out of fear he lost consciousness.

The cat charged towards unconscious Jericho to devour him but a hand grabbed its neck forcing it to shift to human.

Now nâkêd

“Keep it cool Marran,” Xander, the fox shifter said.

“He hurt my mate….”

“Let the queen decide….” She shook her head off his grip, walking briskly back to Owen who had already shifted back to a man. She tried scooping him into her arms.

“I will do it,” Declan offered.

“Take us home Imogen,” Xander ordered.

The Syfy-wolf looked around.

“Are they coming too?”

“Bring the shooter,” Xander pointed at Jericho’s” And this one,” he pointed at Zander too “the other two can stay behind,”
