REVENGE WITH LOVE : CHAPTER 31 – 40
CHAPTER 39 & 40.
CHANGE OF PLANS B
The car ride felt like it lasted forever as they traveled for over three hours. Tesiera sat quietly in the back, watching the driver navigate the winding roads. She could feel the weight of exhaustion heavy on her eyelids but refused to give in to sleep. She knew they were far away from Manhattan now, but she didn’t say anything. Instead, she watched Kracus cuddle the little girl Hazel.
The child had been crying for most of the journey, but she was finally starting to calm down and drift off to sleep. Kracus held her gently, rocking her back and forth, his eyes never leaving her face. Tesiera couldn’t help but feel a twinge of envy at the way the man cradled the child with such tenderness. Her father always held her that way.
She blinked hard, to dispel the memories.
REVENGE WITH LOVE : CHAPTER 31 – 40
After what felt like an eternity, Kracus finally spoke up. “Drive to Hampstons,” he ordered the driver.
Tesiera raised an eyebrow, confusion etched on her face. “What’s in Hampstons?” she asked.
“A beach house,” he replied simply. “The sun is setting, we’ll be passing the night there. It’s been a long day.”
Tesiera nodded, understanding the need for a break after the events of the day. Within thirty minutes, their vehicle was pulling into the driveway of the beach house. The car came to a halt, and they all alighted. Kracus stepped out with Hazel in his arms, still sleeping soundly against him.
Tesiera stepped out as well, stretching her limbs and enjoying the welcoming of the fresh air that landed on her skin. She felt a sharp pain in her left shoulder and knew that her injury was still bothering her. Despite the discomfort, she remained quiet, not wanting to draw attention to herself.
Just then, Kracus’ phone began to ring. He paused to take the call, and Tesiera waited patiently for him. He took it out and saw that it was Clinton calling. He picked up, concern etched on his face.
“Oh, thank goodness! Boss, are you okay? We’ve been trying to get you but your number has been unreachable. We even called two of your other lines, and they were all not available,” Clinton expressed his worries.
“Yes actually, there was no cell network where we were but we’re currently at one of the safe houses, and I finally have receptions. We’ll be spending the night at Hamptons,” Kracus explained.
“Great. We found out about the attack right after it happened, how are you, sir?” Clinton’s tone was almost desperate, filled with concern.
“I’m fine, Hazel is too. The attack was a close call, but thankfully, we were able to evade it.” Kracus’ eyes rested on Tesiera. “Miss Rinderson proved to be more than enough for the job. She saved my life.”
Clinton gave a sigh of relief. “Thank God! Ma’am Valerie has been beside herself in worry while Bose had been pacing for hours. I’m glad to hear that no one was hurt, sir. I’ll tell the others.”
“You do that. Tell Val not to worry too much, we’re safe,” Kracus relayed.
“We’ll do that, sir. We’re back at the mansion. Oh, and boss, we were able to capture one of your assailants while he was escaping the premises. We have him detained. What do we do to him?”
That was the best news Kracus had heard today. “Excellent work. For the time being, let’s not do anything. I want to be present during the interrogation. I want to know who was behind this attack, whether it was Walter or someone else. I need to know,” he said through gritted teeth, seething with anger. The mere thought of little Hazel’s life in danger made his blood boil. He would never forgive the perpetrators.
“We have the world’s most potent torture machine on our side now, they will spill their guts soon enough,” Clinton stated confidently.
Kracus’s eyes flicked over to the infamous Tesiera The Torturer.
She smirked, a dark glint in her eyes, and shrugged nonchalantly. “I don’t mind doing the interrogation,” she said. “If I speak with him, he’ll talk within five minutes.”
He had no doubt about that. His gaze lowered to her shoulder, and he noticed the white cloth wrapped around it.
“Was that The Torturer speaking?” Clinton questioned. “Oh yes, I say we let her do the interrogation. I can’t wait to see them sing like a canary.”
“We’ll decide that when I get back. For now, focus on keeping my sister safe. I’ll call her after we settle in.”
“Okay, sir, I’ll convey your message.” The line went dead.
Kracus scrutinized the white cloth around her arm, which was now soaked in blood. Her face betrayed no emotion, but he could sense her underlying pain.
“You were shot,” he stated matter-of-factly.
She didn’t answer at first, but then she spoke firmly. “It’s just a flesh wound. I’m fine, sir.”
Her tone suggested otherwise, and Kracus could see that she was in agony. He took a step closer to her, reaching out to touch her shoulder, but she drew away.
“It’s not my first time taking a bullet. I’ve removed the bullet already, I’ll be fine,” she said, her tone firm but polite. The bullet had shattered into fragments and she was sure there were still some fragments lodged inside her, which was causing her excruciating pain, but she didn’t mention it. And she was starting to feel dizzy, probably from blood loss.
Kracus could sense her discomfort, but she’d become withdrawn and standoffish, making it clear that she didn’t want his help. He sighed and backed away. “Are you sure you don’t want me to take a look?”
“I’m fine, thank you,” Tesiera reiterated. “So we’re gonna spend the night here?” she asked, changing the subject. Her eyes took in the stunning beach house that stood tall, its exterior adorned with smooth, white walls and a sleek, modern design. The lush, green garden surrounding the house adds a touch of natural beauty, completing the picturesque scene.
“Yes. We should be ready to go back tomorrow, but we can’t tonight, it’s late already and Hazel needs to sleep this horrible day off.” He responded, patting Hazel’s back in a soothing rhythm.
Tesiera nodded and took a step toward the beach house when all of a sudden, her head spun. The world around her seemed to sway, threatening to knock her off balance. She braced herself for the inevitable fall, steeling herself for the impact that was sure to come.
But just as she was about to hit the ground, a pair of strong arms wrapped around her waist, pulling her close.
Her heart raced as she found herself pressed against the firm, rippled muscles of Kracus who had caught her. She could feel the heat radiating off his body, warming her skin and sending shivers down her spine.
“It’s the blood loss. Are you alright?”
His deep voice sounded distant. As she looked up into his eyes, she saw a tenderness there that she had never allowed herself to notice before. His gaze was intense.
For a moment, she laid cushioned in his arm, lost in his gray eyes and she could feel her heart pounding in her chest. Another wave of dizziness hit her.
Tesiera decided that she would kill herself if she did something as embarrassing and mortifying as faint in his presence…in his arms.
Those were her last thoughts before she lost consciousness.
