CHAPTER 48
MAIDS QUARTERS
… It really true, the mistress is pregnant.
… She might the next Empress.
… The mistress would be having a child.
Aurora dashed into her room, her mind reeling with the rumors she had heard.
She couldn’t believe that the mistress was pregnant, and that she might be the next Empress. The thought sent a chill down her spine.
As she entered her room, she saw Jade sitting on the bed, looking concerned. “I heard rumors, Aurora…” Jade started to say, but Aurora cut her off.
“I’m not interested in hearing it,” Aurora snapped, her voice harsher than she intended.
Jade looked taken aback by Aurora’s outburst. “What’s wrong with you?” she asked, furrowing her brows as she moved closer to Aurora.
Aurora sighed and lay down on her bed, trying to composed herself. “Nothing, I just need rest,” she replied, her voice barely above a whisper.
Jade looked skeptical, but she didn’t push the issue. “Okay,” she said, her voice soft. “But if you need someone to talk to, I’m here for you.”
Aurora nodded sadly, she suddenly felt like puking as she held her mouth.
She stood up and rushed into the toilet pouring it all before washing her face.
“Aurora, are you okay” Jade asked.
“I’m fine, the food I ate is undigested…..maybe that why I vomited” She lied, she is typically not sure of she feeling she is noticing.
“Come sit”

EMP. AUGUSTUS CHAMBER
The emperor paced in his lounge, his mind racing with thoughts.
Suddenly, he felt a presence behind him and turned to see Alora standing there.
“Alora,” he called out, his voice firm.
Alora walked closer, her eyes gleaming with a knowing look. “You want to know who the lady is, don’t you?” she asked, her voice low and mysterious.
The emperor nodded, his curiosity taking over him. “Yes, I need to know. Who is she?”
Alora smiled, her lips curling up. “I’ll give you a tip,” she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
“I’m sure you know what today is.”
The emperor frowned, his mind racing. What did today have to do with anything? And then it hit him…..the full moon.
His eyes widened.
He remembered Alora’s words from before, about the full moon being significant.
“Don’t tell me you forgot,” Alora said, her eyes sparkling with amusement.
The emperor shook his head, feeling a sense of urgency. “I didn’t know time was this fast,” he muttered.
Alora nodded, her expression serious. “As soon as the moon sets tonight, any lady who comes to your chamber first is the chosen one…that’s all I can say.”
“But……” He couldn’t complete it.
“She is close to you, you should have realized it by now” She muttered.
The emperor’s mind raced as Alora vanished into thin air. He thought about Aurora and Esmeralda, the two women who were closest to him. Could it be one of them?
“Well, Once she enters this chamber……you two must get intimate or else you’ll stay in pains every full moon forever” Alora warned and vanished.

WOODS
Xylene sat cross legged on the forest floor, her eyes closed in deep contemplation. The sunlight filtering through the trees cast dappled shadows on her face, and her chest rose and fell with slow, deliberate breaths.
But suddenly, her eyes snapped open, and she gasped as if she had been punched in the gut. Her gaze was wild, her pupils dilated, and her face pale.
“It can’t happen, I must stop it,” she muttered to herself, her voice barely audible.
She sprang to her feet, her movements swift and urgent. She grabbed a piece of paper and a pen and began to write with feverish intensity.
Her hand moved swiftly across the paper, the pen scratching out words in bold, angular strokes.
As she finished writing, she folded the paper and tucked it into a small pouch attached to her belt and went outside.
She called out to her bird, a majestic creature with plumage as black as coal and eyes as bright as stars. The bird swooped down from its perch in a nearby tree, its wings beating the air with a soft whoosh.
Xylene tied the pouch to the bird’s leg.
“Take it to the Mistress in the palace,” she instructed, her voice low and serious. “Don’t allow anyone else to take it from you. It’s crucial that she receives this message.”
The bird cocked its head, its eyes fixed on Xylene’s face as if it understood the gravity of the task.
With a soft squawk, it took off into the sky, its wings beating powerful strokes as it soared towards the palace.
Xylene watched the bird disappear into the distance, before entering the hut back.

EMP. AUGUSTUS CHAMBER
The emperor was still in thought when the guards announced Aurora’s presence.
He told them to let her in, the door twitched open and he turned to see Aurora standing there, her eyes cast down.
“Greetings, your highness,” she bowed her head.
The emperor felt surprised. “I can remember that I didn’t call you….what is it?” he asked, his voice firm.
Aurora hesitated, her eyes flicking up to meet his. “I just wanted to ask…” she began, her voice barely above a whisper. She was rubbing her sweaty palms.
The emperor raised an eyebrow, curiously. “Ask about what?” he snapped, his patience wearing thin.
Aurora took a deep breath, her eyes locked on his. “If the mistress is truly pregnant,” she blurted out, her voice trembling as she picked on her fingers.
The emperor’s eyes narrowed, his mind racing. Why was she asking about this? Did she have a problem with Esmeralda’s pregnancy?
“Yes, do you have a problem with that?” he snapped, his voice harsh.
Aurora’s eyes widened, her face pale. She shook her head, her lips trembling. “No, nothing,” she muttered, her voice barely audible.
The emperor could sense the hurt in her voice, and his heart softened. He realized that he might have been too harsh, too quick to judge.
But before he could say anything, Aurora turned and ran out of the chamber, leaving him feeling guilty and confused.
He sighed, rubbing his temples.
What was going on? Why was she acting this way?
