THE CURSE OF ALTVALL : CHAPTER 11 – 20

The Western Caves had always been forbidden.
Twisting tunnels carved by forgotten creatures, damp with the scent of ancient power.
Now, they were home to whispers—rebellious whispers. Here, fire didn’t just burn for warmth. It smoldered with purpose.
Kael crouched beside the flames, sharpening his blade. It wasn’t silver or enchanted—just steel—but it had tasted blood before. And soon, it would again.
Around him, a gathering of young werewolves and humans formed a rough circle—twenty-three in all.
Some were barely of age, others scarred by old battles. None were loyal to Surganah.
They called themselves The Clawless, a name born from irony. Surganah had once decreed that all werewolves not under his banner be considered “clawless mutts.” They now bore the name as a badge of war.
“I saw her,” Kael spoke, his voice low but clear. “Chained. Bleeding. But unbroken. If she can take the whip and laugh in the face of that demon… we owe her more than silence.”
Beside him, Reina stepped forward. Her eyes glinted like cold moonlight. “She weakened him. With poison. We don’t know how much, but it was real. His pot warned him. That means he’s not invincible.”
A murmur rippled through the group.
“But we don’t have magic. We don’t have the numbers,” a younger boy named Ellan said.
“No,” Kael replied. “But we have fire. And we have anger. We have been hunted, beaten, broken—and now we have a reason to rise.”
Reina knelt beside a crate and pulled off the cloth. Inside were bottles—clear, handmade—filled with dark liquid.
“Oil from the sea caves,” she explained. “Highly flammable. The old fishermen used to use it to burn sea demons. We’ll use it to light the night sky.”
A husky girl named Tira stepped forward, her fists tight. “What’s the plan?”
Kael stood, holding up a rolled map of the Island. “We strike in three phases. Phase one: Distraction. We target the food storage at Bloodfall—burn it. That draws his scouts.
Phase two: We cut their communication. The messengers from the Inner Ridge must not reach Surganah. Phase three…”
He unrolled a parchment Reina had drawn: the Execution Grounds.
“…we take back Lyara.”
