THE CURSE OF ALTVALL : CHAPTER 71 – THE END
His mother had never told him everything—her pain was too deep, her memories too dangerous—but she had told him enough.
Enough to know that he was born from war, not love. Enough to know that his very existence was a threat to the tyrant who ruled Altvall with iron claws and a twisted heart.
From when he was just a child, Audrey had taught him to listen beyond words, to feel truth in the silence of things.
They would walk into the forest together at night, hiding from Surganah’s eyes, and she would teach him how to control the light inside him.
“You’re not like him,” she would whisper with tears in her voice. “You’re more. You’re hope, Jeun.”
And Jeun believed her.
He had always felt something burning inside him. Something that didn’t bow to fear. He had trained in secret, harnessed his healing, his speed, his rage.
And he had sought out others like him—young werewolves hidden across Altvall, afraid, scattered, beaten down by Surganah’s rule.
Six of them had joined him in silence, pledging their loyalty not just to him, but to the dream of a free Altvall.
Tomorrow was the day Surganah wanted to take that dream and choke it.
But Jeun wouldn’t let him.
He stood from the rock and looked out into the woods. Somewhere out there, the girl waited.
An innocent caught in a war she didn’t understand. Jeun didn’t hate her. But he couldn’t use her either. He wouldn’t become the test subject of a monster pretending to be a father.
Tonight, he would make his final preparations.
He returned to the cave where his allies waited, cloaked in silence and shadows.
They were young, but fire burned in their eyes. They knew tomorrow wouldn’t be a ritual—it would be a war.
Inside the cave, Audrey sat with a bowl of herbs and ash. Her face was pale, but her eyes were hard. She looked up as Jeun entered.
“He’ll test you tomorrow,” she said. “He wants to see you fall.”
Jeun knelt beside her and took her hand.
“He’ll see something else,” he said. “He’ll see the end of his reign.”
