Episode 11

Rissa’s pov:
“Don’t be silly, Rissa. Its not nice to lie against someone” Mom replied giving me a scalding stare.

Mykel obviously felt embarrassed and he inserted his hands in his pockets.

“I wasn’t staring ma’am” He muttered under his breath and mom sighed.
“I know dear, Rissa’s just making things up. Let’s go now” She said and started leaving for the door.

“You’re crazy, do you know that?” Mykel whispered glaring at me.

I rolled my eyes as we left the house together.

(An hour later)

The mall wasn’t so rowdy but there were a lot of people around. We each pushed our shopping cart together and picked what we wanted.

Mom kept taking yoghurts and ice creams while Mykel picked up some things that he’d be needing for school.
I don’t even care what he takes!

We were almost done when mom decided we go to the phone stores and get Mykel a new phone.

There were rows of latest brands with fascinating features. I’m starting to envy Mykel right now.

I’m sure mom won’t get me a new phone cause I have two already and dad doesn’t want me to be ‘distracted’.

Like any other lucky guy, Mykel picked iPhone thirteen which I think is the current latest iPhone product.

Mom paid and we left the mall with one of the guards carrying the things we purchased.

We headed to mom’s favorite beauty salon to get our nails done. Mykel sat beside me on the couch as one of the lady’s painted my leg nails.

I kept myself busy by reading a magazine. I was pumped when I saw the headline about Lucas Forbes. He’s birthday is in few days. Wow!!

I’m definitely going. I need to give him the perfect birthday present and also apologize for turning down his invitation.

My eyeballs shifted to the corner of my eyes so I could see what Mykel was up to with his new phone.

He’s…
My eyes flared as he reduced the contrast on his phone and I couldn’t see what was displaying on the screen.
God! He’s annoying.

I stared into his quiet face. He looks so angelic – like some sort of angel.
And also, innocent! He looks like he can’t hurt anyone. He’s just cool and different.

I pinched myself mentally! What’s wrong with me?? I can’t believe I’m actually thinking about him.
I hate him so much – no doubt, so I think he probably under went surgery that’d turn him into a demi god.
A surgery from when he was a baby?
I can’t be serious, right now!

From the beauty shop to mom’s favorite restaurant. Its where we hang out with dad whenever he’s around.

She just likes the services and the paintings on the wall.
Well, I think I like it too mostly because of the fortune cookies I get with every meal.

It tells me something amazing that most times believe that a better future was coming.
A future where I wasn’t so lonely. Where mom and dad had full time for me and I’m always happy without worries.

I’ve been depressed for as long as I can remember but after I met Alex and Zoe last year, I became less troubled and drained.

I wasn’t such a dork anymore.

We got a table close to the glass walls where people from outside could see us.
It wasn’t such a big deal though.

Mom placed her order and I believe I’ve never heard of such food before.

“I would like a big bowl of kimchi-jjigae” She said to the waiter who left immediately.

“What the h3ll is kimchi…?” I asked curiously.

“Its a Korean dish. Since Mykel is a Korean, we are going to be eating their food today” mom replied gleefully.

“What??” I blurted.

“Its been years since I last had kimchi. Thank you ma’am” Mykel said and it’d be the first time I actually saw a genuine smile on his face.

This is preposterous.
The waiter arrived and served us the so called kimchi and I kept staring at it like it was the weirdest thing on the planet.

Mom and Mykel began eating and from their faces, its delicious.
I picked the fortune cookie by the side of my tray and unfolded it.

Oh geez! I’m too excited to read it.
I hope it speaks more on my love life.

“The person who you least expected is right beside you – your true love” I read from the paper.

What the shrek?? Mykel is sitting beside me but that doesn’t mean there’s something linking us together.

Who wrote this??? The person needs to see a doctor.

Mom was beginning to look at me and I folded the paper.

“What does it say?” She asked softly.

“Nothing” I muttered and picked up the spoon. Here goes nothing.
I tasted the stew like stuff and it surprisingly didn’t taste bad.

“Excuse me guys, I need to call someone” Mom said and we nodded.
She grabbed her phone and left the table.

As she walked, I noticed some men stared at her.
Thats my mother for peace sake!!!

I sighed and scooped some more stew when it spilled on my lap.
Aargh! Too hot!!!

Mykel quickly took his napkin and rubbed the stew off my thighs.
My blue jeans???
He made sure he rubbed them of gently and completely. What’s with this guy??

The stew had stained the trousers.
What have I done to deserve this, huh??

“This is all your fault” I whined like a baby.

“My fault??” He asked sardonically.

“Thanks anyway” I whispered glaring at the plate.

“It’s nothing” He replied and continued eating.
I sighed and folded my hands together.
How can he be so nice to me after I lied against him earlier this morning?

Then I asked myself;
What crime did Mykel commit that made him go to a juvenile center in the first place??…
